would you really want to watch a legit explanation of AP?

I would LOVE to watch a movie with accurate portrayals of genuine astral experiences.  I started thinking entirely too hard about making an independent film about AP like 3 weeks ago actually.

Yeah, the whole trick to Hollywood is taking something that 99% of the population knows nothing about and twisting it beyond recognition for saleability.

Too bad the victim was AP/OBEs this time :(

... well, you do the math.

Instead of doing the math, can't I just register for an account on a math forum and start a new thread asking them  to do the math FOR me?  Without ever picking up a math book or even googling the word math?

That's how forums work, right?

SPOILER ALERT:  If you have not watched the movie Insidious and don't want the plot spoiled for you, stop reading!

So last night I watched the movie Insidious.  It started off great!  I was all like "Woah, man this is creepy, I like it!"

Then this like mystic lady comes over and tells the parents of the main character boy that he is in fact not in a coma, but is stuck in an OBE.  She goes on to explain that he is a very gifted APer and has been projecting and "traveling" all his life.

So at this point I start to think "If he's so gifted, can he not just *think* his way back?"

Anyway, she continues to explain that the astral realm is just chock full of evil entities, and that one of these evil entities is keeping the boy away from his body, in an area she calls "The Further" (lol), because the longer he stays projected, the closer the evil entity gets to being able to take over his body.

I started to get angry.  Evil entities can't keep you "away" from your body!  You NEVER LEAVE IT!  Astral projection is not a trip through 3 dimensional space during which you travel long distances away from your physical body, it's just a shift in awareness!  Your AWARENESS can go anywhere, but it's not actually LEAVING anything!

So I was like "Man this is why ignorant people look at APers like we're some kind of cult of devil worshippers or something."

Later in the movie, the mystic lady and the main character boy's father's mother (confusing) reveal to the boy's father that HE used to have the same problem too when he was a kid.  He was such a gifted projector that he too had some evil entity trying to take over his body. "But we suppressed your abilities and hid it from you so you would be safe!"  Then, not 5 minutes later they are all like "Now you have to AP to go save your son!"

Ok, the man is like 40-something and his abilities to project have been suppressed since he was like 8, you can't honestly expect him to just project as if by will can you?

YOU CAN!  CAUSE HE DOES!  /facepalm

Then he goes to the "astral realm" which I concluded must have been the RTZ because the only difference between the physical realm and this astral realm was the greenish haze and overt fogginess.  So dude is running around in the astral looking for his son by PHYSICAL MEANS, i.e. walking around, screaming and looking with his physical eyes.  To further accentuate the use of his physical eyes in the astral realm, he carries a LANTERN.

Then he finds his son chained in a dungeon where he breaks the shackles with his bare hands (the son couldn't do that?) and he CARRIES his son (more with the physical tendencies) back out to their house.  Because in this movie, you actually have to plant your astral body back into your physical body in order to re-enter.  Then somehow, while dude and his son were out and about, evil astral entities somehow BECAME PHYSICAL and were in the physical realm crawling and drooling after the other people in the house!

So if you're ready for a very cheesy/corny/campy/borderline offensive/b-movie take on AP, treat yourself to Insidious.

Just adding some emphasis to the Spoiler part.  LOL  ~Xanth

Well said, SomeRandom! :-D

By the way, I've been in touch with Rudy...

He's only got three words for all of you and it's not "I love you"

Is it "I MADE COOKIES!!!!" ?

I dunno, I've never had any luck on my side.  I read somewhere too that it's just not conducive to OBEs.  The author wrote that he specifically lays on his side to *avoid* OBEs, like when he needs a lot of rest.  Probably in one of the two books I mentioned above since I'm reading them right now.  I always have to lay on my back if I am to have any hope at success, which is very uncomfortable for me  :|

Try reading Astral Dynamics by Robert Bruce and Astral Projection and The Nature of Our Reality by (I forgot the author's name).  Both offer a lot of insight to the way the astral realm and astral projection work.  You will find a lot of answers to your questions!

Good luck in your future endeavors :)

How can you guys even be so serious in a thread with a title as funny as this one?

:-D

Morals are a secular concept, and there is no "Astral Principal" waiting and watching everything you do to make sure you receive exactly thrice what you put out, or whatever multiplier you happen to believe applies to karma.

"Karma" (where the astral is concerned, especially) is dependent mostly upon how good/bad you feel about your deeds.  Feelings turn to thoughts turn to action, and so on.  You essentially punish/reward your self based on the type of energy you radiate.
#38
Wait, you got vibes while laying on your SIDE?

*JEALOUS*

But more on the topic at hand.  First let me say that the last time I had some sort of OBE situation (about a week ago), I got serious vibes and could feel my hands floating.  I couldn't control them.  I lost all memory of the event from that point forward the INSTANT I applied an exit technique.

Through some reading I have done on this, I found that I did actually have what was probably a very successful OBE.  The memories that your astral body creates (sometimes referred to as 'shadow memories') are much more difficult to remember than those of your physical body, most likely because your astral consciousness is "further removed" from your physical brain (where accessible memories are stored) than your physical consciousness is.  Some think that if you do not concentrate pretty hard on recalling your astral experiences right before you re-enter your physical body, you are more likely to forget them completely.

So when you think that you had some pretty serious signs of an OBE but can't remember anything past the symptoms, take it for granted that you did in fact have a successful OBE.  Your next task is to practice dream recall to strengthen your mind's natural ability to recall dream/astral events.

Summerlander, I think u should have her father's consent before u do things to him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't really do things "to" people without their consent, right?  I mean, anything that is successfully "done to" someone implies there was consent (conscious or not), no?

Idk, just wondering.

I typically despise the stuff that comes out of your mouth...

I fully support this comment, and will have to use it sometime.

As I was reading the hilarious replies on this thread to my boyfriend, he said (in regards to the sign mentioned in my previous post) "It wasn't a pawn shop, it was a strip club", a distinction I thought very noteworthy in this context.

Phew I made it!

Had to post before I got any older :(

I'm 25 ^^

Never.  And by never I mean until nanobots are developed and embedded into human bodies and take over the gradual process of death by nanobotically regenerating cells, tissues, etc, all the while making you stronger and less likely to take damage.  LIKE WOLVERINE (with boobs).

Lol, "nanobotically".

All I can say is... MAYBE!  :)

Honestly, I can only go by my own experiences... and I've never encountered anything of the sort.  I'm not willing to believe I'm some kind of special individual who is immune to all this "negative" stuff.  It's either real, and my "belief" that it can't effect me is why I've never experienced any of it... OR, it's not fundamentally real, and people are literally causing self-harm.

Seriously though, we'll *NEVER* know the truth and this discussion will go on forever.  :)

The seed of doubt is just like any other seed.  Don't water it => it won't grow.

My personal belief system is such that nothing can harm you if you don't believe in it.  This is especially true in matters of the astral/spiritual/whatever-you-want-to-call-it realm.

By believing that you are possessed you are essentially giving a "possession" that wouldn't otherwise exist, more power.

Declarations are also pretty powerful where this is concerned.  Try declaring out loud that there is nothing with you, nothing holds power over you, etc. You will eventually come to believe it, and as stated above, beliefs can go along way.

I don't have any experience with possession so what I say here may not work for you.  It's just another idea for you to give some thought to.

I have just finished the 'Mastering Astral Projection in 90 days' course, written by R.Bruce and B.Mercer.

Oh I just got that book a few weeks ago on my Kindle!  Good read, although I kind of abandoned the daily procedures because I'm trying to read too many books at once :(

Thanks for reminding me to pick it back up though!

Xanth, I didn't say I thought the brain was consciousness.  I was sarcastically stating that what I meant should have been obvious.  That you are catty is one of the first things I learned when I joined this forum.  That the entire rest of my post would be ignored over a misnomer, well.... tsk.

Speaking of excrement, I'm reminded of a story.

My fiance used to be friends with a guy who swore by this mystic lady who did all sorts of readings and whatnot.  Not really being a subscriber to that sort of thing, but not a total skeptic either, he (my fiance) spoke to her one day (over the phone) and to cut a long story short, she at one point mentioned to him that his solar plexus chakra was black.

Unbeknownst to her, he suffers from Crohn's Disease and has a stoma because of it.

I'm not saying that this is undeniable proof that chakras exist, but I personally have a hard time ignoring a 'coincidence' like that.

Just my $0.02...

Yeah I actually had quite a rollercoaster ride last night.  Had very little to do with actual dreaming, but was worth noting anyway.  I took it as a clear indication that I should start recording these events.  So I started a blog :)

My "BRAIN" forgot to exist in the semantics realm just then.
