It's a real effect, but it has lots of limits!
"Another way to think about it: Placebos tweak our experience of symptoms, not their underlying causes. "
"In all the objectively measurable illnesses, like cancer, even heart disease, there are components of it that are not [objectively measurable]," Kaptchuk says. And it's those symptoms that are the prime targets to treat with placebo.
Placebo can only help symptoms that can be modulated by the mind. "There are real limits to what you can condition," Miller says. You can't, for example, condition the cancer-killing effects of chemotherapy. Our bodies don't produce cancer-killing chemicals."
"When I first started studying placebo effects, it kind of seemed like magic — for some reason, your brain mimicked a drug response," Wager says. "The biggest change in this field in the last 15 years is that neuroscientists are beginning to uncover the underlying neural mechanisms that create the placebo response."
Placebos, researchers have found, actually prompt the release of opioids and other endorphins (chemicals that reduce pain) in the brain. Other findings:
Drugs that negate the effects of opioids — such as naloxone — also counteract the placebo effect, which shows that placebos are indeed playing on the brain's natural pain management circuitry."

QuoteWe get cues about how we should respond to pain — and medicine — from our environments.

I am at a clinical research conference and today one of the topics was increasing placebo response in clinical trials. Everyone was panicking because the statistics show that in the past 10 years the placebo response has been increasing progressively to almost 50 % in many studies. That makes the drugs non aprovable. So, everyone was shaking their heads, thinking how to solve this problem. And I was secretly smiling and thinking in my head " way to go earthlings, you are learning how to manifest things hrough high expectations and high degree of belief". This is just a small example of how strong beliefs work and change things that logically can't be changed, especially when there is no intervention, just the thoughts alone.

Me too... After 25 years of OOBEing I've yet to see a silver cord. Isn't it supposed to attach to the solar plexus?
I have seen in others and felt in myself the luminous egg. We are eggs... but perhaps it is only one state of many.

Just curious Dragonscrying. Are you a Poet or are you aspiring to become one? Your delivery in all your posts is very Poetic. If you aren't already a Poet, you should be! You have a definite calling in that direction!![]()

While perusing this Forum I came across this thread from the past here and so I am "bumping" it.
I also experience the "Observer" mode in my Dreams. Many times they begin like Selski said above, "just like watching a movie". Many of my Dreams scenarios will start in the 3rd person mode and somewhere along the line they change into a 1st person mode, with me now an actor in it, not the audience anymore. Many times that change will occur just as the "sht hits the fan" or things begin to get really intense. I then seem to be "tagged in" and now I have to come up with some kind of "peaceful" solution. If I come in guns blazing, the scene will normally end then and there, just to begin a few seconds later as a "restart", what I have always called "Re-scripting".
I really liked the answer that Leo gave here too. What do you think of this? Does it happen to you and well? Penny for your thoughts!

Haha, enjoyable conversation. Yes, all follows a plan whether we are on the inside or outside. The only problem I see is in how we humans interpret our roles. We are certainly a mess and I have no idea how those more advanced in their understanding put up with us. BUT I most certainly understand why some of them would like to exterminate us.
Everything we've seen this past year will only be a temporary lesson. It's like the bully. Why do we still have bullies on the playground? Easy silly, because we keep putting new little people on the playground. Doesn't matter how many learned before the new crop will always have to learn. Too bad we don't have more an instinctive memory.
Now, where was I. Oh, sorry, I think I might be rambling.

If you knew me you would know why I said that, lol!
To this day, after more OBEs than I can count, I have never seen any kind of cord. I did have a experience a few years back during a Sleep Paralysis induced OBE whereas as soon as I got out of my body, I was catapulted at extreme speeds into the "ether". I then was slingshotted/retracted, (don't know if that's a word) back into my body as fast as I was launched out of it. It was a very quick experience, but I got to see what it's like to be a "yo-yo", lol!

Hello Everyone!
I've recently discovered OBE and had a few experiences myself, but I have a problem.
Sometimes when I try to get out like usual, the vibrations are so strong they seem that they are going to kill me. I feel more and more legit pain as I am getting out, almost feels like something just wouldn't let me go, which doesn't make any sense because I know how it's like to be in the NP. This happened to me a few times now and I never managed to overcome the pain. As soon as I quit trying to exit my body, the vibrations instantly vanish.
Has this ever happened to you before? If this will happen again should I keep trying to exit despite the pain? Will the pain dissapear afterwards?
Thank you for your time!
