I've been a user here for only a while, and few people will have heard of me, but that's because I mostly read, rarely post. Most (beginner-) questions have been asked already anyway.

I have not voted yet. I don't intend to vote, because I think the options are too limited.
  • If there is to be a new forum, then it should definitely be viewable to the world, regardless of the way the users can obtain allowance to post into that forum.

  • Having to pay to post in the new forum is kind of 'not fair'... I would agree that AP could very well use the money, for whatever purpose that would benifit its users, but it is not good to put a lign between members that can pay and those that can't.

Therefore, my suggestion is to start with a number of obviously advanced users (for free). The moderators could make up this list. After that, any member that wants to post in the advanced forum must ask to be considered, and then everyone that is already member in the new forum should (anonymously) vote whether this person is worth to be allowed. The reasons why somebody should be allowed, should be their posts in -this- forum, that Advanced Users can review.
Advanced Users should also not be afraid to vote 'no'. I really think the Advanced Forum should be some sort of an Elite group (in my eyes at least).

This way, and only in this way I think, can you group the more advanced people.

About the money; there should really be some sort of a donation possibility. I would gladly donate like $25, but wouldn't pay $10 for the forum because I'm only a beginner anyway.

Beginners can have $10. Anyone can have $10. Therefore, in this way, there will always be 'unworthwhile' members in the Advanced Forum. ==> membership should be DESERVED, not bought!

Perhaps you need to hold control when you click the link(s)/button(s).. my brother has some program that disables pop-ups, and gives a beep instead when one wants to appear. If he wants to allow the pop up to appear, he needs to hold control while hitting the link.

And today as well.  I think the timeout needs to be 60+ seconds, not 30 it seems to take to timeout?  The default search time is "all", but can be a large querry on a shared databse machine with 100,000 posts.

What, - does this forum actually scan every post for the word??.. Really? Or is that a guess?
Most forums have a seperate database table with all the words that occur in the whole forum, and link a number of posts to each word... searches go quite quickly like that.
(you hear me coming - phpBB does it that way)

Hmm.. if nobody deleted it, clearly it is a bug in this forum. I'd think that the 'rare' event means that two people are doing something on the thread at the same time, which can screw up things -if- there is no protection built in. Usually, a forum would 'lock' a database entry while it's writing or reading to/from it - although this takes very short - but perhaps this forum doesn't do that... and when it happens that two people write to the same spot in the database at the same time, bad things can happen.

True.. right from the start I knew this would be one of those things, so I backed away a little, looking at the screen from afar, and waiting.. unfortunately I had some relaxing slow music on and forgot that there is usually sound involved in these things..
So, well, it 'got' me also [:)]

I have also earlier suggested to move to another forum, but I very much understand the reason why Adrian would not like to do that. He already told us why, and I think it mostly comes down to this: it would be a hell lot of work.

However, the statement "this forum is working fine as it is" is not really correct. Many Firefox/Mozilla users get the 100% height problem (a large white space at the top of every page) and many Internet Explorer users get the problem that the links from inside the topic-view don't work (including 'edit', 'quote' etc) - all those links direct to the Forum Index.

Also, the size of the database is, in my opinion, not really a problem. The migration-code simply needs to be perfect, whether it would be for a small or large database - a large migration simply takes longer to complete using the same code.

phpBB 2.2 seems to me the best choice to move to, however it does not exist yet [:)]. phpBB 2.0.x is the current stable version, and they are working hard on the next version, which will be 2.2, and which will really be great. Therefore I would suggest to wait until phpBB 2.2 is released, and then see what can be done.

If any version of phpBB is chosen to migrate to, I will help as much as I can; I know phpBB. I am also certain that a migration with no loss whatsoever is possible - it will just take much time to address all things.

But as I said I would recommend waiting until phpBB 2.2 comes out, whatever is to be decided. Although it has no release date, it is expected to come out somewhere to the end of this year.

Hi,

that happens indeed, and I think you're using Internet Explorer. Reinstalling windows seems to be the only thing that helps, at least for a while, or using Firefox but that one has another bug.

The workaround is to hit the Reply button in the thread-overview, which is located all to the right. None of the links inside the topic-page will work; they all redirect to the Forum Index...

I'd also like to ask a question again (my exams are over so I can start trying to put some more time into this)...

Actually I decided I'm not moving on at all. So I'd like to hear the VERY FIRST STEP... I did read the NEW guide - not to the end though, only the beginning, because I figured I should only move on when I'm able to do the 'basic stuff'.

I mostly try to just 'feel' my right knee. So I try to imagine.. a feeling there, and hope it will become 'real'. Sometimes it seems like it's "becoming real" but it's -so- faint that it may as well have been there without my concentration... I often feel just the same thing in my left knee although I'm not concentrating there. I've never felt something 'real good'. Only "something" after a minute. I also tried feet, toes, etc, but mostly try 'right knee'.

I seem to have one place where it's very easy for me to stimulate however: between and a little above my eyes, I suppose that's my 'third chakra". I only need to close my eyes and think of that area for one second, and I start feeling.. something there. Like a tickling from the inside or something.

And that's really the only place I can find.. [:(] although I've often tried, mostly for 10-25 minutes. I've had about 15 of those small 'sessions', but perhaps they are too short to make any difference, I dunno.

So.. I decided to just start over again.
What should be my very first step? Is there a certain area that is sensitive for everybody? Perhaps I can start there to gain confidence.
Is it normal by the way that the third chakra is so easy to feel?

thanks a lot

The forum is suddenly working for me now! [:O]

I reinstalled my windows XP today and the forum is now totally working for me...

Hi - so the only problem is that the reply doesn't work like it should? Or is the problem resolved somehow?
Are there any javascript errors?

The most relevant other topic in the Forum Bugs section will probably be http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11384 - "The forum errors on my IE. "

Hi,

you are experiencing the same problem as quite some other IE6 users. I can not reply to topics either, if I click the "reply" button in the topic-page. Unfortunately we have until now not been able to find out why exactly this is happening...

The workaround is to click the "reply" button in the overview of topics: there's a reply button on the very right side of the page next to each topic.

It would indeed be way too much work to recode a whole forum from scratch that would have the same functionality like the one that's running here now.  However, enhancing the current forum may be a very good idea - if done by somebody that knows what he's doing.

I have 'enhanced' two phpBB forums (yes yes I know - it's just as an example [:)]); in one of them I made that in one of the forums (one where you could 'anonymously' complain about stuff) you could not see the nicks of those that posted, except for the Moderator's nicks and your own, and yet you could edit your posts. Most people with scripting abilities will probably agree that this must have been a though thing to do... it involves a LOT of pags where the nicks had to be replaced by "Guest", yet the correct nick must be kept in the database so that the Moderators can know who's complaining, and that they can edit their posts.

In the other one, I have set up a seperate database that keeps hold of which forums one is interested in, and only these ones are showed in the index page.

I'm just saying this to illustrate my scripting abilities [;)] exactly one year ago I didn't know ANY php or mysql, but still I've done all that stuff. I learn quickly, I expect ASP to be not sooo different from php (only some syntax), and will therefore start learning ASP as soon as my exams are over, which is on June 21 (yes I'm a student). Then I will be able to do the same to this forum as I can do with phpBB forums [:D]

So, well, I'll let you know when I know asp [:)]

Right,

it has taken me some time, but I have found an (intermediate) solution.

I have decided to take a close look on the code. LOTS of code - way too much to generate this forum actually, but whatever. The most important thing that I discovered, is that this forum (actually the menu system) looks which browser you're using, with an enormous amount of code (instead of simply asking the browser [xx(]) in the javascript file sniffer.js, and then decides how it's gonna make the menu.

Somewhat amazing I find this - the menu system has a seperate javascript file for each browser (that is: ie4+macIe5, ie5, ns4, ns6+mz7 (our case), op6, op5). Each of those files is 30 kB (which I find enormously big - just to create a simple dropdown menu...).
The reason for the problems we're having is simple: the menu system (some other parts of the forum also, perhaps - I only checked the menu part) is outdated compared to the new browser versions... the fact that the menu uses entirely different javascript files for each browser means, in my opinion, that it not written very 'compatibility'-something...

Most probably, there will be newer of these javascript files available for the newer browsers. Also, sniffer.js will have to be updated. Next time that I have time (actually just now I didn't have time, but I'm sacrificing some sleep for this.. [:)]) I will find out if I can find such a thing.

Well, my 'intermediate solution'. This is however not really a good solution. It will improve the looks for Firefox 0.8 users and mozilla 1.6 users a lot, though not making it perfect, but it will decrease the looks for mozilla 1.4 users and others that use the same javascript file...
It goes like this: open the file http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/resources/menu.js, look for the word "moz" (it only appears once), and change it into "op5". Indeed: let the menu think that we're using Opera 5... and then it will look better - though not perfect yet. It will have the same error as the one that I get when I currently open the forum with opera 6.

I just installed FireFox 0.8, especially to find out if this bug would be solved then. It isn't..

Also, the drop down menu looks a lot more... 'matte' than in IE.

I'm also still struggling on this part.  I asked a question one time somewhere but it didn't get answered and I forgot where I asked it [^]

I don't -feel- anything yet either - I can however feel bodyparts by just thinking about it when I'm laying in bed with no lights on. But I'm having a difficult time trying to do it in "open air".

Anyway, I wanted to ask this question again:
Awareness hands are surely something "visual", right? You're supposed to imagine them? So I do, I 'visualize' them, but if I'm not mistaken, I'm not allowed to do that because I must -feel- everything with awareness... but how can you feel your awareness hands when they're not there.. :?

So you're supposed to imagine Awareness Hands without vizualising them? Sounds difficult to me, because imagining immediately implies 'vizualisation' with me...

Sygmoral

I wonder.

Is it possible to arrange a (non-physical) meeting with other forum members if you determine an exact time and place?  If these 'other places' are real, this should be possible, no?

Sygmoral
#47
I also find this hard to do..  I find it easier to 'feel' something anywhere by imagining that I'm doing something with that area.

Also, about the Awareness Hands in R. Bruce's guide - how are you supposed to imagine Awareness Hands doing something to a part of your body if you're not allowed to "see" them?..

Hi Adrian, thank you for your reply,

(as always I'm replying here by following the link from the overview of Forums Bugs Reports and Questions, because the links inside this thread don't work for me)

I just deleted all offline content, and cookies. Afterwards have gone to check if there really wasn't anything left in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files - and there wasn't. Now it isn't empty anymore of course, it's got many pictures from this site now - but for some reason not all of them.  For example, the stars do not show up.  So I open a new IE window and paste the URL of one of those stars: http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_star_gold.gif. That works, I see the gold star.  Then I go to my Temporary Internet File folder, and very weird, - the star shows up there.  So I try to view this thread - I should surely see the gold star now, because it is already cached... but I don't, not even after choosing "Show Image", although it is in my cache.

Just now, I've gone to settings > Privacy, and have allowed ALL cookies to be saved.  The images still don't appear however, and the links don't work (they all redirect to http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/default.asp - which can't really be a browser problem, because the correct URL is asked to the server, but the server redirects to the overview).

I'm just saying what I see... I don't have an explanation for it. Mostly, none of the images are working (including smilies - I have to look at the image url to find out which smiley has been posted), except for Nick's avatar, Nagual's avatar and Risu no Kairu's avatar.
Oh, and the screenshot that Nagual has posted here (about the Mozilla bug). All other images fail most of the time; however, I sometimes get to see the reply button, the Astral Pulse logo and the folder-images (next to the location of the forum).

For some reason, ALL the images work in this reply screen... Also, everything works in Mozilla except for the 100% height problem (Nagual's screenshot). In Opera, the links and images all work but many things are not displayed correctly, like the dropdown menu and the 'Author' column in topics.

I'll try to figure out a solution for IE users... either by changing settings or making minor changes to the code...

Hi,

I can also not download this attachment with IE. Mozilla worked, but I also got the log in screen - just hit "okay okay, log me in" and don't change the password. It seemed way too long to be correct for me, but that's what made it work anyway.. - in mozilla that is.
In IE I don't even get a page, it says "page can't be displayed".

Anyway, this is the link that you are looking for : http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/uploaded/Adrian/tikybalion.pdf

Isn't Firefox supposed to be the same thing as the browser part of Mozilla?.. And that one's got the 100% height problem.

I unfortunatly don't really think that anyone is interested in this topic - the amount of 'reads' is pretty small compared to the amount of replies..
Only people with forum problems seem to come here, but not the admins/moderators.

Let's pm an admin [:D]
