Welcome to News and Media! / Religious Damage

Quotewhile i'm not religious, i don't think its right to say its religions fault for all this (besides don't most religions forbid abortion and sex outside of marriage, so how can they say its increases abortion rates and teen pregnancy?)

These things are more likely to occur precisely because they are forbidden.
This study makes a lot of sense to me.  Morality, ethics have nothing to do with religion.  Religion tends to create unrealistic standards (no sex outside marriage is a good example) that people usually cannot comply with (just look at all the Priests molesting children).

My luck has improved.  I have better dreams, more to my liking.

Why should we all agree?  That would make a dull world.

I am a belief.  But, I'm becoming a bit skeptical about myself.

I just hope I'm not that easy to manipulate.

Welcome to Astral Chat! / Are you normal ?

I don't believe it.  I'm normal!

So how does it work?

I tried looking in the mirror while APing once.  At first I saw nothing, just the background behind me.  Then a weird puppet version of me appeared, a caricature made up of animated clay, with painted features.  I found, that by projecting a different thought, the puppet changed shape to match the thought.  It stayed looking like a clay puppet however.

During my attempts at meditative relaxing, I have noticed that imagery I have been thinking about will suddenly come alive.  What I mean is, if I am imagining a tree the leaves will start moving, rustling in an imaginary breeze that I did not consciously create.
Is this indicative of reaching a certain level of relaxation or even a particular focus level?[/quote]

QuoteIn the old testament it's clearly visible thad God does have an ego. Why would he want to control everything, punish people and be worshipped, and create "choosen nations"?

God in the old testament is depicted according to the popular perceptions of the time.  Those perceptions changed over time.  Look at the New Testament.  That's a completely different God!

In the New Testament, God is depicted to be the very essence of good and way beyond 'provincialism'.  "God is Love" is a statement in the gospel of John I think.

So, when I say "think like God does", that's the God I mean!  There's certainly no ego there, at least no human ego with all of its flaws.

QuoteWhen I was younger, I always prayed to God, Jesus or guardian angel. It never helped me at all, and I only received more suffering. For me the most effective way of healing is to pray to Lucifer or demon experienced in healing. I make such request only when I can't heal myself using NEW. I receive help nearly every time I ask, my request was refused only once, but this changed my life totally in a very positive way.

I guess you have to go with whatever works for you and is reliable.  I'm sorry to hear that praying to God did nothing for you.  It seems to be such an individual thing.   Faith/belief seem to be the major factors.

I wonder if there is any absolute system that will work for everyone?  Can we find it by analyzing all of the different systems that people use and try to find the patterns?

In my experience, prayer that results in healing comes from gratitude, love and firm faith that God can do anything.

And, yes, getting the ego out of the way, enabling you to think like God does, is also necessary.

It's more like a command, but it's a command that God agrees with, in fact,  the authority for it comes from Him.

My arms are typically  transparent and very hard to see, while out of body.  Either that, or they look solid and then dissolve as I look at them.
#39
Right on, both of you.  All of these things need scientific studies.  Particularly with spiritual healing methods, skeptics are fond of mentioning how few scientific studies have been done.

Too many people are held in the thrall of medical theory and treatment.

I'm still unsure about how valid it is.  I'm just starting that "Verification Phase" now.

I'll try the card trick and then try and visit people and things like that.  Hopefully try and physically move something at another location if that 's possible.  (Perhaps like Patrick Swayze did in 'Ghost' where he focused all of his emotions).

Repeated, consistent verification is what I am seeking.

Beavis writes:

QuotePhysical reality exists only in some paranormal form. It will continue to act like the known laws of physics say until affected by a paranormal force (like Newton said, but about something else), which can only affect it as much as that force is powerful. None of us are powerful enough to do god-like things to physical things, regardless of how much you believe you can. Lack of belief is a bottleneck to the power of most people, but once belief exceeds the next bigger bottleneck (your amount of power), increasing belief more has little effect. My belief in telekinesis often exceeds my power.

Unless the amount of power you have is itself based on a belief (as in a belief of your own limitations), albeit further entrenched, more unconscious.

Yes, that does make sense.  Thank you, Frank.

Frank writes:

QuoteVery few people, relatively speaking, understand how we form our reality. Most people are open to the idea in a limited sense. For example, in conventional terms, if you put to someone the idea of getting a better-paid job and subsequently enjoying an enhanced standard of living, as an instance of a person creating the new reality of greater wealth, then I am sure most people would agree this is a situation where a person can create their reality.

However, we create ALL our reality. That means every individual creates his or her own reality. No-one co-creates with anyone. We are the very definition of Self Determination. But as yet very few individuals hold an objective understanding of that fact and it is having that objective understanding, which makes all the difference

This is interesting.  Would you say, however, that people close to you strongly influence the reality you create, unless you resist that influence?  Also, the Common Consensus Reality of the physical world strongly influences you as well?  You accept a lot of its conclusions, unconsciously, like gravity, etc?
So its not a question of co-creation, simply of major influences.

Quote"A psychotic drowns in the very same stuff a mystic swims in" - Pema Chodron

Psychopaths aren't necessarily psychotic.   Check the works of Hare and Cleckley.

I am up against a wall of ignorance on this subject so I think I'll just drop it.
#46
QuoteThis is silly, and you haven't backed up anything.

True, I didn't back it up.  Try reading "Without Conscience" by Robert Hare and "The Mask of Sanity" by Cleckley.  These paint a detailed picture of psychopaths.  Serial Killers are a small sub-group of psychopaths and the ones who typically have other problems and I wasn't referring to them.  Typical psychopaths are quite often able to function normally in society.

QuoteJust because they both begin with 'psych' doesn't mean they're the same. Oy... both just refer to the mind.

Now, that's just a silly comment to make.  I'm not playing word games.

QuoteOne is the lack of control of the mind, one is control of it. Both have energies, one is for the most part destructive, the other is... well what you let yourself make of it. One is chaos, the other is hopefully an attempt at order.

Not quite right.  Again, I suggest you read the aforementioned books.

In addition, I am actually asking if anyone knows if there is a connection between improved psychic ability and psychopathy.  I was not stating it as a fact.

Welcome to Metaphysics! / Psychic Vampirism
February 08, 2005, 00:18:04
I was involved with a psychic vampire woman several years ago, and it was most unpleasant.  After spending time with her, I would feel drained, lifeless.  She, on the other hand, would become more animated, energetic and enthusiastic.  I would slowly return to normal only if I spent some time away from her.
I feel she was able to succeed in draining energy from me, by first emotionally manipulating me.  I was then an 'easy target'.
There is also the problem of a link being created.  I would go to places in an attempt to avoid her, and she would turn up there.
I got the feeling she may have been doing it quite unconsciously as a kind of 'survival instinct'.
She had borderline personality disorder, which I feel created her need for other people's energy in the first place.  Borderline's, similar to psychopaths, seem to be deficient in either emotions or in life energy.
She also had a complete lack of empathy which is also common for these types of personality disorders.

The research I've read has shown that psychopaths use both sides of their brains simultaneously - a necessary skill for meditation, OBEs & psychic abilities.

They also tend to naturally be at a lower level of anxiety naturally do to retarded emotional development.  This would assist with relaxation - another necessary skill for meditation, OBEs & psychic abilities.

Is this actually the case?  Is there any evidence of psychopaths having above average psychic ability?
#49
I have heard it said that psychopaths have enhanced psychic abilities or better than average, due to the different psychological make-up. Does anyone know if this is true?

Consistent, frequent practice is highly important.  Try and practice every day if you can.
