Messages - The Present Moment

#276
Quote from: StookieEven though I only understood about 20% of what was presented, I'm assuming this means that an OBE machine is possible right now?

And vibrations are hallucinations caused by mini-seizures?
I have never seen a scientific experiment that caused a person to astral project or explore outside of their body. Epilepsy and electrical stimulation can cause all sorts of bizarre illusions, but it's not AP. My theory is this: when people OBE, they are using trance/meditation to deactivate parts of the brain which 'trap' them inside their body, freeing them to explore other places. This is no more proof that the experience is a hallucination than normal neurological conditions are proof of waking reality.

Edit- I want to make sure that last sentence is clear: If we say that AP/OBE is a hallucination because it is dependent on neurological conditions, then we can also say the same of waking reality.

Quote from: bvp663Every discussion I've ever had concerning OBEs and whatnot with christians is immediately discredited by the verse "I am the way, the truth, and the life.  Nobody come to Him but through me."
There is a similar quote from Buddha:

Whoever sees the Dhamma, sees me; whoever sees me, see the Dhamma.

IMO, it means I am what I preach.

How did you find this forum, and why are you here?

I'll send you a message with the posts of his that I've saved.

And yes, I was trying to brush my teeth in the astral.   I keep the visualization uninteresting so that I don't get an adrenaline rush when I 'see' it.

Quote from: lkjewrThank you very much for sharing. I think earlier this year I experimented a bit with like thinking my awareness different place, for instance visualizing and imagining my vision being in the next room over. I did this to the office of my apartment complex, just sat with perhaps a brief settling meditation, and thought/imagined/willed my awareness/perception there. For a brief and shocking moment I was suddenly there, as if my eyes and presence were hovering in the front room of the office for a moment. I think this relates to what happened with your 'kitchen' experience. Thank you very much for sharing, and I hope this helps. It seems you're onto something.

Would you describe the strongest, most vivid experience you've had with this method?

And also, would you describe another experience of awareness displacement- spontaneous or caused- like you had with the kitchen floor tiles? Interesting that I just thought about practicing with this sending awareness thing a bit more.
Shocking is the same word I would use to describe my reaction. In fact, my first attempts failed due to excitement.   I really wouldn't say that I'm on to anything, though, I'm simply following the instructions from Frank's posts.

I did a little reading to find out what the difference is between phasing and OBEs, and it seems to come down to how the experience is initiated. With OBEs, one uses tactile or movement sensations to leave the location of the physical body; with phasing, one uses any or all of the senses to place oneself inside the imagination. Maybe I confused the issue by referring to a "real" location? To be more clear, it's a memory.

The vividness has reached a plateau, but I suspect that once I'm able to engage senses simultaneously (e.g. sight, sound, and touch), I'll be more completely, if not totally, immersed in the experience.

My last successful attempt was the best so far. I was in the bathroom, watching myself brush my teeth. My body had a murky dream-like quality to it, but everything else was quite real looking. It may have been a little too boring, because I dropped into a lucid dream after 20-30 seconds.

My favorite technique is to phase into a familiar place, like my kitchen. This saves me the effort of trying to create an imaginary scene.

Hey.

Thank you for sharing.

Question: Does the resulting projection, when you say 'phase', you mean that you join into your imagination, correct?

I'm interested in what some would call the traditional OBE. How does this method you use get one to that state, if it does or can?? Rather than entering the imagination.

Please detail what happens with use of your method.
I've never had an OBE, so I can't say how phasing works in relation to it. The method I am using is Frank's mental rundown. While falling asleep, I wait for hypnagogic hallucinations -- usually sounds, in my case -- then begin the exercise.

When I first started I would imagine myself sitting by a stream, throwing pebbles into the water. Often I would see reflections off the water, or hear splashing, but not be able to get anything more. It happened by accident that one night I thought of my kitchen, and suddenly 'saw' the floor tiles quite vividly. Ever since then I've used familiar places instead of imaginary ones.

Quote from: lkjewrHey Draege..

Last night I experimented with focusing on imagining looking at my hands as I went to sleep, trying to cause projection or get into a projection-ready state on my way into sleep. I fell asleep, but I think this is promising. Perhaps you can try this also and we can compare.

Quote from: CarryAnd at some point when something familiar appears in the half dream stage, i flinch or startle.
I had the same problem with phasing. After doing it a few times, the startle goes away.

Quote from: MarlinyaAh, that's probable. I was also doing 5 Tibetan rituals/exercises, which raise my energy a lot, right before meditation.

Do you think the "radio station" I was hearing was what's described in the FAQ, where lower astral entities try to trick you into staying there?

I must admit, I am a little leery of picking up my practice again (I took a break over the weekend)...
If you continue meditating as you were prior to the OBE, I don't think it would happen again. Personally, I have to meditate for 2 hours or more a day to get automatic lucid dreams or astral experiences.

The most important thing is to have a positive attitude about it.

print.google.com found an exact phrase match of "that which is already is," on p. 210 of Transformations in Consciousness, by Franklin Merrell-Wolff.

I think it was caused by more frequent meditation. You can have a lot of fun with such experiences; check the FAQ and permanent topics in the forum index.

Quote from: LeylaMy OBEs/APs are more and more frequent. I used to post all of my experiences...but from now on I think I'll just post the most interesting ones.
Have you tried getting to PF3 or PF4?

Quote from: gdoWhat does the brewer contribute?

A human body in the course of it processes makes alcohol.
I was using the word brewer to describe people who produce beer and other alcoholic drinks.

Is a brewer to blame for alcoholism?

Frank helped me a great deal just through the posts he made to other people. I'm happy to be able to give back to him in any way I can.

Have you spoken to your family about these experiences?

It's pretty hard ! When I loose a thought I get a new one and so on ! How can I stop that !? I mean ... it's a pain in the butt !
Thoughts cannot be stopped, they wane as you relax, so be patient.

Quote from: jub jubLater on today I looked up the chakras and noticed the color purple is the crown chakra. Is there a link between the crown chakra and OBE's?
Yes, read the first post by Frank on this thread.

You may be witnessing Scheerer's phenomenon. A sure way to know is to force blood into your head, and note whether the dots move faster.

i tried WILD lastnight and got in trance in no time. then a nice mild set of vibrations came over me. they got stronger and died after about 8 seconds. i was so excited that they came. it felt so cool. i felt really heavy but no SP. weird i guess.  hmmmm so i laid there and nothing happened. man i was ticked. i tried rope and other techs and nothing worked. o well maybe its harder then i thought.
Anger is not helpful. Relax, and whatever happens - even if it's nothing - accept it.

Quote from: damnationaliI am by now terrified of phrasing something in such a way as to offend, having had no-one but myself to 'talk' to, and as I understand myself without explanation, I am bothered that I may occasionally phrase something in a way that I know means no offense - but others, not knowing me, may not.
Don't concern yourself too much with this, for political correctness is not the force it was in the 1990s.
