I have found that I project more on days that I sleep as much as I want- on days I don't have to get up at any time- I end up projecting in the am and when I come back I feel drained and in a sort of coma- partly because of the quality of the projection but I believe that once I've slept too much my body goes into this comatose half here/half somewhere else state that is really hard to get out of but really easy to project over and over again in one morning.

I find this too. I usually get 4-7 hours sleep a night, but when I can get as much as I want, I get a lot more paralysis and consequently more projections. I call such occasions oversleeping :). One problem i do face is that getting more sleep than i'm used to can give me headaches or makes me feel a bit out of it during the day. Perhaps i'm used to existing in a sleep deprived state, so a normal amount feels weird to me now :).

My experience of energy work is it's not so much the perceived energy which allows one to OBE, but the focussing inwards with intent. To clarify, any task which sees attention removed from the physical and focuses the mind with intent to OBE will achieve results over time.
Energy work itself stimulates memory of tactile sensation, and with anything, repeated focus on certain sensations will see them produced more easily (this can be seen by focusing on retinal fatigue, over time the imprint happens much quicker until it is instantaneous). This allows the sensation of energy to be focused and directed in the body. This in itself can be a great tool to OBE as when you get proficient at recreating these sensations, they can take attention away from the body very quickly.
There are other methods which could be used to, many people favour 'visual' visualisations – adding in other sensations to reinforce the visualisation and take awareness further from the physical.
With anything, some people will probably strongly disagree with me :).

I'd take the referred site as a guide to relating several dimensions in terms of manipulations to create a physically perceivable effect or an analogy of one in higher dimensions.
If one takes that approach the presentation (the clever stuf with branching, twisting etc.) is a good introduction to how the extra dimensions can be thought of as a recursive 3D pattern.

I agree with you here. It's slightly misleading in the way each dimension looks like a branching 3d map starting from the point of the last though.

Yeah, it is a nice little mind bender for mathematical idiots like me.   :-P

What is "standard" about "standard string theory models"? I mean, honestly?  Come on! :-D

lol, you got me on that one ;p. The usual thought is that only 3 dimensions expanded and the rest remained curled up in on themselves:

This is why we supposedly haven't detected them yet.

In my opinion, the fact your girlfriend has found someone else (irregardless of their sex), and is actually openly telling you about it, shows she perhaps isn't into you as much as you are into her.
It might be hard to hear, but it shows a tremendous amount of disrespect towards you.
Some people can cope with open relationships, but if you can't, you also can't change your girlfriends mind. You've at least got to contemplate this relationship is over. And if it is, for the short term you should cut all contact, to give yourself time to heal and get over her.
Break ups of any kind are terribly hard, but hanging onto a hurtful situation will just keep causing hurt to you.
It seems your girlfriend has made her choice; else she wouldn't be openly cheating on you.
Whatever you decide is the best course of action for you, I hope you find happiness in that choice.

When I get a bigger place i'm planning on having a patch to grow vegetables etc. Both my grandparents used to grow food in their gardens and on allotments. I also plan on getting some chickens too :).

Just checked the site out and I would be a bit wary of taking anything it says as absolute. Firstly, the guy who created the site has no physic credentials at all. Secondly, the explanations of the different dimensions do not match the standard string theory models; these usually contain the other dimensions folding in on themselves (calabi-yau space).
Thirdly, there is still much debate about how many dimensions there actually are.
Fourthly, string theory has yet to produce anything other than theory, or be verified in any way. It currently is a highly theoretical, incomplete framework which seems to detail everything but our own universe. I know there are a lot of people losing faith in string theory the longer it provides us with nothing tangible.
Websites such are this are nice to bend the mind slightly, but they don't necessary represent anything truthful – it's just a layman person's interpretation of a theory which hasn't been proven in any way.

I saw that in a film once, about a boy who looked like a lion, Cher was his mother, he met this blind girl and tried to explain to her what the colours looked like. So he went and put her hand in hot water saying 'this is red', then he made her hold some ice cubes saying 'this is blue'... I don't remember very much, but thought it was cool.

That film was called mask :). The son had a genetic condition which grossely distorted his face - and it detailed the hardships him and his family faced because of it.

I'll have to look through my inbox. I've been using one address since around 97 and it gets hundreds of spam messages a day. Some of them are hilarious, it's like the spam bots have gone mad and they consist of quotes, deranged stories and poetry :D.

One trick that has worked for me was to move my eyes upward, as if trying to see my eyebrows. Eyes closed.

Techniques like this are used in hypnosis :). Perhaps irrelevant to this discussion, but it immediaely brought this to mind.

Hi MisterJingo,

Thanks for the response.

Yes, at the beginning of all my projections to date, I have experienced full body vibrations, which to me felt like a huge juddering in my head, a racing heart and a massive amount of vibrations throughout my body.

Perhaps you're right, and my recent localised vibrations are simply energetic movement resulting from my earlier energy work.

Personally, I can't get localised vibrations to grow, but that doesn't mean you won't be able to :). To intensify the full body vibrations I usually just take deep breaths and do nothing. Trying to increase them through will, normally sees them diminish. So perhaps try being passive, focussing on the breath? Or, if that doesn't work, try focusing in a relaxed manner on the area of vibrations to the exclusion of all else - treat it like the object of a meditation. See if you can take the sensation to another part of your body etc.

Ways I've found of inducing sleep paralysis include:

Get too much sleep.
If I have more sleep than I'm used to, and then I keep lying in bed forcing myself back into sleep, this is normally always guaranteed to induce the vibrations. I don't have the time to do it frequently though :).

Visualisation.
On the border of sleep, create 'visual' images in the minds eye, being close to sleep usually reinforces their vividness. Make them as realistic as possible. If you wake in the night, do the same (it seems more productive doing it from a nap rather than when first going to sleep). I find this usually sees me either becoming lucid while asleep, or waking up in a paralysis state (with vibrations).

Disrupt sleep.
Simply sleep lots, but in small doses. A good technique, but one which requires lots of free time, is to sleep on and off in 4 hr slots e.g. be awake for 4 hrs, sleep for 4 hrs, awake... etc.

Naps.
Taking naps in the afternoon (utilising visualisation around the hypnogogic stage) can induce paralysis in me.

Meditation and similar techniques.
Regular meditation and similar techniques seems to increase frequency of spontaneous sleep paralysis. These other techniques could be visualisation, energy work etc. I don't think the object of the state is important, just that you are acclimatising your mind to certain levels of focus and awareness while the attention is focused inwards (such as energy/chakra work). These techniques need to be used frequently overtime to see any benefit.

This is not an exact science, so experiment and see what is good for you.

Hi leswan,

Have you ever experienced all body vibrations? I ask because when I have localised vibrations, they usually feel very different to the all body ones I get (which feel like getting executed). The localised ones I usually get are not 'projection vibrations', more the sensation of energetic movement. Yours might be very different, but knowing what kind of vibrations they are will help answer your question :).

Altered states is good :). I remember being scared silly as a child when I saw a clip of it, the bit with the cross and the many eyed goat.

Not too many people have seen or heard about "Walkabout". I think it was a fantastic flick! I'm also a fan of Aussie movies! Have you seen "Picnic at Hanging Rock"?

Walkabout is an interesting film, it's been on UK TV a few times :). I haven't seen picnic at hanging rock. Is it worth checking out?

The UK doesn't issue biometric passports yet, although they will be very soon. I renewed my passport around 3 months ago, to get a traditional passport before I would be forced to get a biometric one.

I think Einstein said something like if you travel close to the speed of light strange things will begin to happen, well I travel at the speed of light and thought, I see time as instances or different recognised co-incidences that are just so weird its strange, you get me?

If you travel at near the speed of light as percieved from a stationary position, as fast as you go, the speed of light will still be the same speed in front of you (299,792,458 m/s). Apart from accelleration, you would also see no strange effects. Observers not realtive to your position/direction/speed might see you moving increasingly slower (dependent on their position/direction/speed). This is why it's often said its impossible to travel faster than the speed of light as you would need infinite energy to do it (i.e. as fast as you go, light will always be travelling 299,792,458 m/s ahead of you).

My immediate reaction to this would be to suggest that it is to do with the differing mindsets and perceptions of these cultures. The west on the whole has a very scientific and objective view of the world, where in Asia, the view would be more spiritual. So when an Asian sees a ghost, a westerner would interpret it in a different way.
Another possibility concerns an interesting study involving studying how east and west perceive scenes differently. The experiment involved a photo of a man stood in the centre, and around him beautiful scenery. Studying eye movements, it seemed the west focused on the man predominantly, and the east focused around the man, taking the scene in. This suggested east and west perceive the same thing differently, which could be due to perhaps cultural difference and importance placed on different things.

10. Logan's Run

Would that have anything to do with a scantily clad Jenny Agutter roaming about in it?  :-D  If so, Walkabout is a good film too lol .

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Fight club
Dune (the one with Sting in it)
Moulin Rouge

The Princess bride and Ghost in the Shell should be in there too.

Hi Doch,

I'm a regular donator too. In my opinion, I can't see how selflessly giving of a substance needed to sustain ones life to help another being live could ever be anything but karmically good.
I've had discussions with a fair few Gnostics in my time and not a single one has ever mentioned karma (a predominantly Eastern belief system), what I mean by this is that karma has no place in Gnosticism. And so any interpretation of karma by such Gnostics is purely belief only. So I really wouldn't worry about it.

Either way you're making progress.  :-) IMO, the only time to know you're having an actual OBE is when it occurs while you are wide awake. But even if it was "just" a lucid dream, how cool is that?!!  8-)

I agree with greatoutdoors . You are definately making progress, and any experience like this is a step in the right direction. Some advice I would give is to try not to get too caught up in classifying experiences as OBE or not. This can create barriers to projecting. Just class them as experiences and document them.
My criteria for OBEs usually include clarity of mind/lucidity i.e. if something is so faint it could almost be a dream - or if i'm unsure if I was lucid or not, I simply put it down as a 'maybe'.
#350
I haven't voted as the clarity of my OBEs varies quite widely. Some OBEs are very faint, in them I'm almost like an automaton with little of my higher faculties apparent. Others I see a 'super-clarity'. Like my mind and consciousness is burning staggeringly bright – these OBEs are rare and they do feel more 'real' than reality. The majority of my OBEs see a similar level of clarity to my waking consciousness. Although at first it can feel like I'm only half awake (leading me to question if I'm OBE or just awoken and feeling a bit sleepy).
