I would suggest "Journeys out of the body" by Robert Monroe.it was written around 1970, and it's THE classic in the subject of astral travel.it also contains some great exercises, which worked for me.

I don't know anything about the subject of necromancy (correct term?),but I would think that it's something you don't want to just jump into.I know that Crowley have some fascinating writing on the subject, but then I think of the negative implications of delving into such a subject.[xx(]

I don't have a credit card either! I just hope they accept money orders when ordering by mail.If they don't, I guess I'm screwed![]then I'll have to get the awakened minds cd,and it's about $60 canadian or more!![:O]

good question.unfortunately I don't have an mp3 player,otherwise I would try that.I wonder if I could download stuff in the library? do you use a disc,or card or something?

I don't own a credit card either.I was able to get AD by ordering it at a bookstore that does special orders.some websites allow you to order by mail by printing out the order form,but not all of them do this,and some of them don't say if they do or not!

I've requested a hemi-sync catalog from the robert monroe institute,so it should be coming in the mail soon.looks like there's some great stuff there.tribal journeys and spirits journey in the metamusic section looks interesting,also maybe transcendence in the other section (?).anyone tried these?

I'll look into the awakenminds and kelly howells links, but I don't actually own a computer (I use a library),so I can't try the brainwave generator.

the awakenedminds cd has hemi-sync technology on it as well.On the site it talks about "binaural beats",etc.fascinating stuff[]

I can do the first exersise w/out my finger there.The remind me of those pictures composed of abstract shapes-until you blend them by applying deep focus.it's like trying to focus on something that is behind the image.I think I could probably hold the image for some time[].

Another thing I forgot to add is that I have been on anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication for about a year now.I know that it definately has a very negative effect on my ability to raise energy and generate the astral body.I havent't been able to achieve these things as easily as before[!].another thing is that I drink cola every day (it has caffiene).I'll have to drop that for awhile to see if it helps things.

does anyone know of the effects that anti-depressants have on the astral body or astral planes of reality? I would imajine it to have quite an effect.I also know that it takes about a month for the physical body to de-toxify after stopping taking it.

there has to be some level of truth (due to the source of the information-dreams don't lie)in the blue character saying that M&M's are "anti-static".he could have been refering to a dampening effect on the activity of the chakra that relates to the color blue (brow?, or throat?).spiderman and superman are both red, and that could relate to the color that relates to the lowest chakra,eating and pleasure being very primal impulses.what do you think?

-and I'm not just talking about mediocre "doses",I mean A LOT of M&M's every day[].they are very addicting.I'm over that now though. (damn it! why do they have to be so tasty.I want some right now...)

I would like to know more about medications in any form and their effect on astral projection if anyone has any experience.I can't seem to generate any at the moment!

that is a question I have wondered about...it is possible that guides could be a higher self of some form, but I'm not sure.I suppose it is also possible for lifeforms to exist that aren't based on flesh-and bone type of matter.so...I really don't know! I can't answer that question myself.maybe someone w/a little more experience/practice?

Carlos Castaneda has written about many experiences of teleportation (true or not is debatable).sometimes to another area in the physical,sometimes to an "in-between" dimentions kind of area,w/deserts and stuff,and one time to a realm of "inorganic beings".really strange stuff,but some people can't take it 'cause it's too wierd,so they just decide "aah,it's all bs".

even if it was fictional,I'm sure that math and physics could delve into this subject quite effectively.not sure if anyone has, though.

I met a guide during a lucid dream.her name was Etukai (pronounced eee-too-kuh-I,or something similar).she looks "asian",and has long,dark hair.she was teaching me about gaining speed in flight by gradually flying in lager,and larger arcs, until I experienced a "tunnel of light".

here's a related question: is it possible to directly send information from the astral (maybe the akashic records?)into your brain-like to learn a language or something instantly? I've read here somewhere that Tesla (the inventor) used to work on his inventions in the astral, then just write it all down in the physical!

I have experienced that several times in the past.It was during "tunnel" type of projections.I was speeding through it very fast, through rings of coloured light.I can't remember much more than that.
sometimes (many times actually) I have seen rings of coloured light form.very similar in fact to the description that sweet_celestial_sounds gave.I've never got around to practicing and developing that though.It just happens,and I say "hmm,thats interesting".I've never really known what they were about though.third eye activity makes sense.I'll see what I can do with that!

I encountered a massive, 2-headed dragon last year-that's kind of like a reptile.the he changed into a humanoid shape and showed me his name,which was a symbol.I have also had contact with what looked like a boar,only the eyes were shining.his name was "tuss kuss".that's really wierd...

I understand what it's like to have family members who are alcoholics.unfortunately,I've found that the individual with the problem has to be the one who really wants to change.nothing else,except love and support will be of much help.it would be nice if their was a way to change ourselves or another individual on a direct level,changing the structure of the energy body (which one?) in order to see positive change on a physical level.I don't know of anyone who can do that though, and I certainly can't.can anyone relate to that idea-like astral majick?

for me, the vibrations started out at a very rough frequency.over a period of 2-5 years they gradually sped up and smmothed out on their own.I don't even get vibrations when I succeed in projection.I just feel a pleasant warmth.I'll take that over the rough kind anyday[].

and, as terry b. said-whatever works for you,works.just practice a  variety of techniques until you find one you like.after you do it once,you probably won't even need the technique anymore.

another thing  -the key is to move your awareness to a point outside the body.try to completely forget you even have a physical body, and practice creating an extreme focus of awarenessthis is the basis of robert monroe's technique in "journeys out of the body".If you haven't read it,do it.it's an excellent book.
 it is a classic in the field of astral projection, and it worked for me after only 2 weeks.that was 12 years ago though! I can't do it anymore, but I have started practicing again.astral dynamics is also an excellent book, but both authors have very different styles.

if you like the rope technique, practice climbing w/out having a destination.it is the act and feel of climbing you are going for.don't focus on a certain part of the body,as that only keeps you physically "glued".just find your purest awareness.is it part of the body at all? is it under layers upon layers of sensory (touch,sound,etc) input? ignore all sensory,bodily input, and just try to find your awareness, and climb the rope w/it.robert bruce reccomends not focusing on any visuals,just the feel.

I don't know if it's like this for everyone,but the fist time I got them,whoa...they were violent.Don't be scared of the experience because of that though.it's really cool![8D]

I've never stuck my hand in a light socket,or grabbed a live telephone pole wire,but I think I know what it feels like! for me,they were all over my body,and I couldn't move.I guess it sounds scarey,and I guess it is,but you get over it.eventually you just think-"oh,here come the vibrations again[|)]"

they also raise in frequency over time.they don't just stay violent...

I have always found that there is never really a "technique" for projection.I find that if a certain method brings results once,it doesn't work again! all these "methods" never work for me more than once or twice.and for the past couple of years, I have been doggedly searching for a guaranteed technique for separation...but I don't think there is one!
this, of course, creates a big problem when it's time to describe what you "do" to have an astral projection.I have been practicing astral projection for the past 12 years or so (mostly undsuccessfully,however,once in a while,something REALLY interesting happens[:O]).I have found that the most important thing by far is the strong need for it to happen, if you just think it's kind of cool,and you'd like to try it,guess what...it probably won't happen!).many techniques describe methods that involve focusing awareness on the physical body,or the physical environment, and trying to make you feel like you are "moving".I find that these techniques invariably never work for me.I used to just ride the wave of energy  that was released after I first attained frighteningly strong vibrations.after that,for years, I would just relax, and it would just happen.there was no "method".I would just be awake and in the process of relaxing,then I would feel the vibrations beginning, so I'd close my eyes,and fire myself into space![]focusing on a "technique" will only lead to frustration, as I have found over the past few years.I have been trying to find the technique.and guess what...I can't do it anymore!

if there is one technique to reccomend though, it would be robert monroe's technique in "journeys out of the body" (or something).it forces you to train your awareness away from the body and its environment.but after you attain that first success,forget it.it will just happen.unfortunately, now I must RELEARN it.[!]

these complications make it VERY hard to describe to someone how they can learn astral projection, aspecially if they are: 1-just wondering about it,but don't actually need to do it,or,2-if they are closed- minded about, and just want to find out if they are right, and it is just all bullsh*t (to them)-of course it will NEVER happen for them!
