Welcome to Integral Philosophy! / What is happyness?
December 12, 2003, 02:26:17
HappIness to me isn't just a philosophical viewpoint.  People put too much emphasis on ideas.  Why not come up with an idea that can be applied.  "I think that happiness exists in the mind" suggests that in reality it's unattainable.  Something to ponder on but never really achieve.  If you ask me, to find happiness you must search away from the material.  Having money problems?  Think being rich will make you happy?  Nope... it will just solve the money problems.  Have a slow car?  Think buying a fast one will bring purpose to your life?  Nope... it'll just make your car faster.  Don't have a boat?  Think buying one will fill that void you can't put your finger on?  Nope... it'll just make you float on water.  If you want happiness you need to learn to let go of all these things.  No one likes it when they have an oil leak, or their bedroom window gets broken.  But it happens, and it's not really important.  Everything can be fixed, but it'll probably happen again just to be fixed again.  Find what's really important.  Got a couple bucks that aren't going to affect your life one way or the other?  Then buy a homeless person a sandwich and drink instead of a soda for yourself.  Help an abused animal find a better home.  Give a gift to a sick kid on Christmas.  Give and you shall recieve no less.  Give happiness to someone who doesn't have it, and you will have it yourself.  Think it's bulls***????  TRY IT!!!!!

Fun idea I guess, but flying is flying.  It's beyond me why everyone is so fascinated with "The Matrix" concept.  It's a cool movie, maybe gets you thinking outside the box.  But when you start applying it to your life and your beliefs, then you got some problems.  IT'S NOT REAL!!! I've had the ability to fly in lucid dreams before, but never in the real time zone.  Does it matter how you take off?

Just because you conciously or subconciously want to have an OBE doesn't mean that every little sensation is a result of that.  Nothing can harm you when attempting or experiencing an OBE.  So if you experience extreme back pain, even during sleep, then more likely then not it doesn't have anything to do with your "astral body".  Maybe you should visit a chiropractor instead of asking for advice on the internet.  Sounds to me like maybe you strained a muscle or pulled a discus in your back somewhere.  OBE or not, you still exist in the real world, and it sounds to me like you have physical back problems.  I'd get checked out by a doctor, not a spiritual guide.  Just a suggestion!

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Coma Patients?
December 10, 2003, 23:26:41
I have read many stories about people being in a coma and having very vivid and important OBE.  However, I also know a man that has been in a coma and remembers nothing of the accident that caused it or the coma itself.  Guess it all depends on the person.  Maybe some are meant to have them, maybe some aren't.  Hard to say!

I've tried the white noise from a radio before and suprisingly it worked quite well.  It's constant so it doens't distract you from your goal, but at the same time gives you something to focus your attention on to keep your mind clear.  If it's bothersome you can turn it down untill you find just the right pitch.  It didn't push me over any threshold or anything though.  I'd say it's a great concentration tool.

In my opinion Hemi-sync works for other or not at.  And personally I dont understand how it works, because it doesn't work for me.  I have tried differenty hemisync many times, and nothing important has ever happened.  But just for the record, I can't be hypnotised either.  I know a lot of people believe that EVERYONE can be hypnotised, but amateurs and pro's alike have been able to hypnotise me.  I have noticed listening to hemi-sync where it is actually Monroe speaking, that the way he puts words and his tone of voice are very similar to hypnosis.  If you are able to be hypnotised, I truly believe that hemi-sync will give you exactly what the tape promises.  Otherwise, I think it's worthless beyond words for anything other then maybe relaxing yourself.  I encourge anyone that is effected by hemi-sync study up a little on hypnosis, and find out if that ALSO effects you.  If they do, then perhaps you can't really consider the experiences valid.  Maybe doing it completely sober with no help other then yourself will you discover that OBE really are possible.
#407
One must always remember that Monroe was a pioneer.  He had no understanding of what was happenening to him.  If he hadn't have been brave enough to explore this possibility, then many people wouldn't be as spiritually advanced as they are.  Being the first, I'm sure some of his ideas or perceptions may have been off.  However, he did take the position of a bias scientist.  So it's safe to say that at least he wrote the truth to the best of his abilities.  But we are in a new age and many are actually discussing their interpretations of different experiences and coming to understand how and why they happen more openly.  We have come a long way in this area since Robert Monroe. The idea is to remember what his experiences truly gave us.  A way to open ourselves up to experiences far beyond our wildest imaginations, and come to remember that literally ANYTHING is possible.  After all he did coin the phrase-"The greatest illusion is that man kind has limitations".

First thing is first:  THIS IS A LONG POST, SORRY...
I have heard that it is possible to lend a hand to someone attempting a projection, while you are doing it yourself.  I however am certainly not at that stage yet.  You say you have been trying for 3-4 months and now you sound frustrated.  When I first learned how to project I was 17 years old.  I am 21 now, and it wasn't until this year that I actually discovered how it was done.  Once it happened I discovered what the last lesson I had to learn before my accomplishment was... patience.  When you want something to happen so bad, you ruin it by trying too hard.  If you want to project you have to LET yourself project.  You may think you are ready, but maybe you have more to consider.  For instance, how will you react when you finally FEEL the vibrations.  You've read about them I'm sure, so you know what to expect.  But when they come, will you get so excited you finally felt them, that you will lose your focus?  Probably, so that's another step you must get past.  Then finally you will learn how to focus on projecting once the vibrations come.  Once that happens you will be out, but then what will you do?  Float around for a few seconds before you end up back in your body?  There are many steps that must be done to be enlightenend.  It doesn't end once you finally succeed in leaving your body.  On the contrary, it is just the beginning.  Therefor perhaps for your first OBE to be beneficial, you must first learn how to have the patience to control it.  Untill then, try and try and try and try.  After enough trying, you will succeed.  But you don't know how much trying it takes, UNTILL you succeed.

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / True or not??
December 06, 2003, 02:41:11
The simple answer is that it is not true.  You see, the misconception that many OBE writers don't realize is that they speak of the astral plane as if it's a seperate, distant place.  You don't actually "leave" your body so much as you tap into a deeper part of your conciousness.  The truth is that ALL other forms of conciousness lie within ourselves, not in some far away universe.  So I guess my real response is, how can one's body be taken over when we don't really leave it?

Could have been a lucid dream.  They can be VERY exciting.  However commonly when you have a lucid dream, once you wake up you are not confused about it being a dream and not an OBE.  OBE are a vivid as if you were awake in real life, not awake inside your dream.

I HIGHLY recommend not laying down when you attempt it, especially if you've never had one before.  99 times out of 100 you will fall asleep.  You're body can still be relaxed enough to project when you are sitting up, but you're body is not accustomed to sleeping while sitting up.  When you lay down it tells your body "time to sleep".  I guarantee you will go much further if you practice while sitting up.  Also, stretch every muscle before you begin.  Relaxation is one of the biggest factors in success or failure.

I'd say just pack a bag that you can carry, like a duffle bag, with the essentials.  Warm clothes, food, water, cash, toiletries, and just start walking.  Help people who need help.  Maybe meet some new friends you wouldn't expect.  Who knows what you'll come across.  If it's a spiritual journey then you can't be driving in your 4x4, defeats the purpose.  Other wise, it's just a vacation.  So I guess the question is do you want to go on a journey to discover things, and yourself?  Or do you want to go on a vacation?  In any case, I will leave you with my favorite quote by Buddha-"Discover your own path to enlightenment with diligence".

P.S. I think you would be suprised what hardships many people have experienced.  I'm not saying you're not special... but, well... you're probably not special!

More common then people realize.  Coma victims have often experienced the afterlife and NDE.  It's actually quite a common occurance.  The problem is that if they try and tell doctors or something the doctors credit it to some chemical brain reaction or something.  But to have an OBE or NDE during a coma... well... many, many books are written about such experiences.

Welcome to Psychic and Paranormal! / Need an answer

You could have been grounded by something, that's the only explanation I have.  To be struck by lightning with no effect at all is something I have NEVER heard of.  It doesn't sound very likely.  Sure it wasn't a powerful shock during a storm?  Most people struck by lighting die, and those that don't experience serious injuries.  No effect at all.  Either you were mistaken, or it was an act of God!

Rambling indeed, try using a comma or period some time.  I ran out of breath just reading it[:)].  Sounds interesting, not something that normally happens while falling asleep.  If you are this excited about the experience it was probably something more than just a dream.  I'd say just do what you did to induce it and see if it progresses.  Sounds like you're on to something.

Don't really know if it has anything to do with interest in astral projection, but I doubt it.  I've never really thought much of it.  It bothered me sometimes, other times it was just there, in the background.  It's also not constant.  I can make it happen ANY TIME I wish, but even now as I sit and type I don't hear it unless I want to.  It's loudest when I am trying to go to sleep.  Usually everything is turned off.  The television, all the lights in the house, everything is already sleeping, then it's the only thing I can hear.  But it doesn't bother me anymore unless I'm drunk.  If I am drunk and trying to sleep it comes on and it feels like my head will explode.  If I am sober, I just let it be and it doesn't bother me.  I'm not suprised that many people have this, but I am suprised that it's considered to be such a huge annoyance by many.  Some people are able to have OBE without even wanting them, like Robert Monroe.  Maybe this high pitch ringing is a pre-lude to that.  Perhaps some people have it naturally to help them have OBE.  I've read that this ringing is heard by many people just before or as they project.  Maybe the fact that some of us can hear it any time we please is a blessing.  Perhaps it will make OBE easier in some way.  Who knows, just an idea, but I know that when I use it to meditate it's very beneficial in terms of something to concentrate one, so who knows.
#418
I've also had that high pitched ring my whole life.  Use to be quite annoying, but I use it as a concentration excersize now.  Just focus on it and try to make it louder and louder and it will take your mind off of everything else.  Annoying I know, but most likely you're stuck with it, so you should find a way to utilize it.

I have found that religion is the most difficult of discussions because it is the most contraversial.  I have my beliefs, and I simply cannot comprehend going against them.  What I believe makes up my whole existence.  But it is not my belief to tell others they are wrong, or to make others feel that I am against them.  On that note, this will be the last reply on this particular topic that I engage in.  I feel it's gotten off course, and like yourself, I don't think I've made any progress.  I'll probably read still read it, but it's just too personal and broad a topic to make any kind of an impact.  However Nagual, I did listen to what you had to say with an open mind, and agree with much of it, so keep fighting the good fight[8D]!!!!!

Yes I understand now, thanks for the clerification!
#421
I believe in God and Christ, as in the one from the bible.
#422
I use to be athiest.  I believed with all my heart and soul that there was no way God could exist, and only listened to facts that supported my idea.  It was only untill I considered the POSSIBILITY and opened my mind that I began seeing things that helped me realize why God does exist.  Christ himself said, "It is impossible not to believe what you see.  It is equally impossible to see what you do not believe".  I don't agree with people trying to push God onto others.  But likewise, it's just as rude to try and convince a Christian there is no God.  It's not our job as humans to make everyone believe as we do, but instead accept them for what they are.  Only God can convince someone of His existence, but in order for Him to do so you must allow it.  He is patiently waiting outside your door, but you must open it and invite Him in.  Cheesy I know, but true.  You will know He is true not because you will see our touch Him, but because of the way your life will grow when He is a part of it.

BETH:  I have noticed an underlying theme in your topics... are you an Athiest (if you don't mind me asking)?
#423
I never really undestood "modern" religion.  Religion isn't exactly a new concept.  There are so many out there, but I don't believe any one of them are better then another.  The importance in them lies in the teachings, not in the label put on them or the church that one belongs to.  Anything that teaches about Love and respect for fellow human beings and spiritual self improvement has something of value for everyone.

Ah mind games!  Again, you posted my entire reply.  Instead, try answering my question with your OWN reply.  Saves time and me a headache [:)]

Ok... but why did you post my whole reply?  How does it apply to what you wrote?
