I highly recommend "Journey's Out Of The Body" by Robert Monroe, for starters.  Then you can look into his other two books, which build off the first one.

And of course, get a copy of Astral Dynamics by Robert Bruce.  [:D]

I feel that there answers in the Astral for me mmmmmm perhaps not but I also feel that my journey has to begin there.

Fear is a major stumblingblock that you must get over before you can truly be successful in astral projection.  This isn't to say that a person who is scared can't project.  However, a scared projector will usually have a negative experience, and it will set their spiritual progress back many steps.

If I may make a suggestion, just go out and buy Robert Monroe's first book, "Journey's Out Of The Body."  It's extremely beneficial, and one of the best ways to have an OBE is to read about them before laying down at night.

With the ouija board I feel that perhaps its my deeper feelings that I'm actually communicating with and with the Astral perhaps Im dreaming. Ack I dont know I only know that it is a hinderance and its stopping me so any advice offered would be greatfully received. Thanks

If you feel anything is a hinderance to your spiritual development, I would stop whatever it is you're doing.  I don't have any experience with a Ouiji board, but I have successfully projected enough without it, so I know that it doesn't make a difference as far as OBE's are concerned.

In my opinion, messing with a Ouiji board can (not always) lead to more harm than good.  But again, that is just my biased opinion.  I don't have any experience with them.

You know, I wasn't going to say anything, but how come you always seem to post the exact same TOPIC and ask almost identical questions?  For example, here is just a small list of the most recent topics you started:

* hi yall please help me on oob and astral p.
* e
* astral help
* astral projections
* help me please
* need help please on ap
* ASTRAL PROJECTION
* astral p help needed
* ap body

Wouldn't it make sense to just keep all your questions under one topic, like "ZJRules needs your help?"

Every now and then, I feel a heaviness, but I attribute this to my state of mind.

For example, a lot of newbies feel a heaviness because their mentality has never experienced an OBE before, and they have to deal with so many things at once, like the flood of emotions, the flood of "what to do" thoughts, etc.

The better a person gets at this, the more they learn to control their thoughts and emotions.  This reduces a lot of the burden of separating and makes things easier.

As a really bad example, imagine trying to lift one of your kids up.  If you just go up to him and scoop him up, it's not that hard, because it's one fluid motion and your intention of picking him up is strong.

Now imagine slowly picking him up.  I'm talking like lifting him an inch or so every second.  He would be a LOT heavier, and the whole lifting experience would be harder to control.  You may only get him partway off the ground before having to put him back down.

I think our astral bodies react in much the same way.  If you just relax and have a strong intention, you can *usually* easily separate.  But if we have a little of our minds rooted on the body (vibrations, erratic thoughts, etc), then it becomes harder (and heavier) when getting out.

Heeeeeeeeey Naaaaaaaaaaaaay,

Great post!  You hit on a lot of points that many of us still deal with after years of projections: the crawling in the dark, travelling at fast speeds with no direction, etc.

I notice that sometimes, when my energy is low (?), it's harder for me to separate.  I almost have to FORCE myself out and crawl away from my body to avoid its strong magnetic pull.

However, if I return, it's usually easier for me to get out the second time, simply because my mind is now fully immersed in the OBE-environment, and I'm not going through the same mental transition that one goes through when he's still groggy.

It's kind of like when you wake up in the middle of the night to go pee.  The first time, when you wake up out of a deep sleep, you're walking kind of sideways and bumping into things.  But if you lay back down for a few seconds and then get out of bed again, it's much easier.  =)

And about flying in the dark at fast speeds, I still suffer from that.  I agree that a HUGE part of it has to do with no specific intention when you're out.

If you think about it, even in the physical, our minds are constantly jumping from place to place, topic to topic, etc.  The only reason why we don't buzz all over the place is because we're confined to this physical body.

But in the astral, we don't have that restriction!  So once we are out, if we aren't focused and in control of our thoughts, we may start zooming in many different directions at a fast rate of speed, which can be terrifying to those who aren't familiar with it.

The only way I have been able to break out of that situation is to imagine myself going someplace specific and expecting to arrive there NOW.  I just hold an image of my destination and imagine myself landing there.  Sometimes this works, other times it doesn't, but I'm still working on it!

Great post!

I look at it like this.  We all have higher up beings (entities, guides, etc) that help steer us in the right direction.  What that direction may be depends on the purpose we have incarnated into this lifetime.

However, they can only influence us to do things.  Ultimately, we decide the rate and direction of our growth.

As a really crude example, imagine a big maze.  There could be multiple entrances, many different twists and turns, but only one destination.

Our guides may guide and influence us to take the right turns to reach that destination, but if we choose to turn left or right along the way, this is our choice, and ultimately, we may end up stuck in the maze a long, long time, due to our free will to make those choices.

However, just because there are higher-ups out there who are guiding us in a certain direction does not mean that free will is an illusion.  We all have the choice on how we would like to progress in this spiritual journey, and if we so choose, we may get stuck in endless cycles of lessons because of our stubborness.

I'm sorry that I can't explain this any better, but I'm getting sick right now and I feel like dog poop.

Matt....no worries, mate.  This happens to the best of us.  In my case, this only seems to happen if I separate without any vision.

What you can do when flying around like that is imagine that you're slowly slowing down, and image your feet slowly coming to rest on the ground.  Then reach down and touch the ground, and imagine your vision kicking in.

This usually works for me.  Hope it can help you out.  The key is using your imagination to help give you back some control and stabilize the erratic flying.

Just a word of caution.  Beware of anything that guarantees an OBE, especially something that charges money for it.  Sites like that usually prey on impatient newbies who think there is a "magic" way to achieve this state.

I personally wouldn't pay for any biarual sounds when you can use BWGen for free.

It may take years to master, but you may be surprised at how quick the average Joe can have an OBE when he doesn't try so hard.

quote:
I've read that the first one is the most difficult, after that it gets easier, if this is true, then can someone help me at least for this one time?

This was the case for me.  My first OBE happened out of the blue when I least expected it.  Since, then, I've averaged one every week or so.  Sometimes I'll have 3 in a week.  Other times, I've gone months without one.  Fortunately, I seem to be on a hot streak right now.

quote:
I can't talk to anyone physically, so I thought maybe someone from here that can actually project. I just would like to experience this "astral world" that everyone keeps talking about, Even if I have to keep it short (which I think is reccomended). My goal is just to get out so I can have one under my belt.

If I might make a suggestion, here is what worked for me (and still does):

1) Read about OBE's before laying down for bed.  Right now, I'm re-re-re-reading Robert Monroe's first book, Journeys Out Of The Body.  If you don't have this classic yet, GET IT.

2) After laying your book down (or even if you don't read that night), practice some OBE techniques.  Basically, you just want to take about 10 minutes and relax your body.  Then take another 10 minutes and relax your mind.  After that, just focus your attention away from your physical body but don't concentrate on it.

For example, pick a point on the other side of the room and just mentally hold that point in your mind.  What this does is that it takes the focus off your body and mind, but still holds your awareness onto something.

It is anywhere after this point that you look for a slight and minute shift in consciousness.  It's a transistion which is all too familiar to people who have experienced OBE's before.  When this shift is upon you, you'll be able to move your astral body around, hear astral sounds, see astral things, etc.

Another technique people do is instead of focusing on one point, they simply observe the hypnogogic imagery that passes before their field of vision.  This accomplishes the same thing, in that it keeps you focused on something while your mind and body are busy preparing for an OBE.

3) Even if you fall asleep after doing the above two steps, this is OK.  You'll find that you will either snap awake in the middle of the night in the midst of a projection, or you will have really lucid dreams, or worse case scenario, nothing will happen.

However, one thing to keep in mind that there is no such thing as a failed attempt to OBE.  The more you practice, the more you are training yourself to focus inwards and not outwards, and this is the key.  Just because you don't have an OBE does not mean all is lost.

Welcome to Astral Chat! / A few questions....
November 03, 2003, 16:46:23
Ok, I'll bite.

1) What is your best physical feature?

1. That little dangling thing in the back of my mouth.

2) Tell me something profound.

2.  I love Raisin Bran but I hate raisins.  Go figure.

3) How many of your aspirations have you lived out/still plan to live out? What were/are they?

3. This is a toughie.  I always wanted to be famous, so I guess my website (MyJokeMail.com) helps pacify this area of my life.  Other than that, I just always wanted to make a difference in many people's lives.

4) If you could have an international holiday named after you, what would it be and in celebration of what?

4.  My holiday would be the "International Day of Sleeping", because I love sitting around and relaxing in my spare time.

5) How many selfless acts of kindness have you committed this week? What were they?

5.  Well, I cut this guy off on the highway, and he started screaming and flipping me off, but I just smiled at him.  I thought that was a kind gesture on my part.

6) What word best describes your personality?

6. Creatively humorous.

7) Most proud moment?

7.  Getting married, although discovering the ability to OBE is a close second.

8 ) When you die, what do you want to be remembered as/by?

8.  Someone who was fun to be around, and a person who made a difference.

9) Are you more happy alone, with your significant-other, surrounded by close friends and family, or lost in the crowd?

9.  I am happier alone, although that doesn't negate the joy I have to being married.  I'm just more of a loner on the inside, even though I can be very outgoing and sociable in a public setting.

10) One piece of advice you could offer to younger generations (even if you're a teen yourself you've learned something!)

10. Don't eat yellow snow.

11) Say one 'nice' thing about [at least] 3 forum members (I hear you groan but you know you'll be rushing back to see who's mentioned you  )

11.  I also plead the 5th on this question.  There are more than three people I could single out, so I choose to remain silent.  =)

I'm curious to know why some people have o.b.e.'s without trying to do so. What makes your body wake up in the middle of the night and your half way out of your body?

For me, it's probably a combination of expectation and practice.  Whenever I lay down to sleep, I always try and mentally prepare myself to have an OBE.

Whether that consists of doing some pre-OBE techniques, or simply focusing on how wonderful it would be to project, this is usually all I do before going to bed.

Then, if I start to wake up in the middle of the night, my subconscious usually takes over and reminds me of my desire to project.

That is the only way I can explain it.

If you think about it, most of us wake up multiple times throughout the night anyway.  Sometimes it's to go to the bathroom.  Other times, it's to get a drink of water.  Other times, it's simply to look at the clock.  Well, if you practice enough, you can almost train yourself to become "aware" before you start moving to do these things, when your body is still asleep.  This is the point where I can usually OBE 100% of the time.

The trick is to capture that small sliver of awareness before it slips away and your body starts moving.

Beavis, my arguement DOES hold up, if you keep it in context.  To use your example, if I was forced to go through an anal sex class all through high school, even if I didn't like it, I wouldn't come to an online sexuality forum for anal sex and post about other positions.

Errrrr......what the hell were we talking about?

The way I look at it is this.  I was forced to take English classes all through High School, and I'll be damned if I went through that hell for nothing!

To learn all the rules of English and then purposely tinkle on them is like being forced to drive a car and then steering it off a cliff.

While I have a popular humor website (seen over 300,000 times a day), I don't think it will help you in your metaphysical journey.

The only thing I have which is greatly beneficial is my OBE Journal site, which allows you to download a program to help analyze and record your metaphysical experiences (like OBE's AP's, and Lucid Dreams).

Here is the URL: http://www.obejournal.com

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but I agree wholeheartedly.  Let me preface this by saying that there's a difference between an accidental spelling error, and intentionally typing like a monkey.

I don't mind when people spell certain things wrong (like there, their, etc) because sometimes English is their second language.  It's when people say "4" instead of "four," "wtevr" instead of "whatever," etc.  That is what bugs me.

And one more thing which no one else has mentioned.  It's somewhat annoying when people make a long post, and they don't use a single friggin' carriage return.  To put it more bluntly, USE THE ENTER KEY!

I like reading people's posts and trying to help, but to be honest, when I see someone with a question and their post is half a page long with no new paragraphs, I simply skip it.  Plain and simple.  Why?  Well, call me shallow, but it's too exhausting for me to read this huge block of text without some kind of nice formatting.  I would rather spend my time contributing to other threads which are easier to read.

Just my 4 cents.

Rusty, it is quite common to get partially stuck in the physical body, especially when you're a newcomer to OBE's.  My first five or so OBE's were all partial exits like yours.  But don't be discouraged, they are OBE's none the less!

Usually when I find myself getting "stuck", I have to relax and not get too excited.  You have to imagine yourself melting into the experience instead of moving around.

I don't know why that is, but everytime I try and move the rest of my astral out of a stuck situation, there is a 50/50 chance that I get too worked up and I ruin the entire experience.  However, whenever I melt into the experience (by relaxing, breathing, etc), the vibes become more balanced throughout my body and those stuck areas come loose rather easily.

About wearing quartz while projecting, I have never done that, so I can't tell you if it's affecting your exit.  My personal opinion, however, is that it will affect you if you THINK it will.  This is why I remove all jewelry from my body before laying down, just because I don't want to think that it will hinder my progress.

Well, from my experience, the astral plane is multi-faceted. And since it's a dimension influenced by thought energy, it can be different to different people.

Now when you project, if you project into a dimension located close to the physical plane, then everything is almost exactly the way it is right now.  That means that there is a ground, a sky, buildings, cars, shopping malls, etc!

95% of my projections are like this. It's so real (in fact, even more real) than your waking life that you almost have to walk through a wall or something, just to convince yourself that this is actually 'real.'

It's when you start to ascend into higher levels of the astral that things can get more abstract, although I have yet to have an experience where I observed myself as some euphoric ball of energy, or anything like that.  Like I said, all of my experiences are very real (just as your waking life is real).

Many times, though, you will project and be in a black, voidless nothing.  This is what is usually scary for people, but with practice, you learn to remove the fear and get out of it.
