Gongslow: thanks.  I was just wondering.  (Can you tell I'm sometimes hypersenstive about this stuff?  I reread my post last night and I thought to myself, "If I hadn't been in the state of mind I was in last night I might not have written anything")

Guhan,
Welcome to the forum!  We are happy to have you as a new member.

I am very interested in Hinduism and have studied it for a while now.  I hope you don't mind answering some questions I have regarding your beliefs.

Welcome!

First of all, don't cut yourself! I don't see any reason you should do that my freind, you know that cutting oneself is usually a bad sign.  Other than the mention of you cutting yourself, that expereince sounds very amazing.

By the way, I moved your post to the astral expereinces forum because it is better suited for this forum.

Hopefully others will make some meaningful commentary on this experience and I am sure they will agree with me that cutting yourself is not necessary or healthy.

Goingslow: I am surprised at your reaction to Allanon's obviously fervent appeal...is your apparent apathy and opposition toward his statement a product of your distrust and disbelief of Christianity in general and as a whole (historically, etc.) or his personal stance?

I ask this simply because I too am a Christian (as most everyone here knows already) and am very interested in why otherwise "spiritual people" dismiss Christianity with what is often.  I am no stranger to the anti-Christian views of the modern secular intellectual as well as non-religous spiritual world, therefore I desire to know what exactly makes you personally dismiss anothers personal experience/belif system.

I guess the most compelling element of your post is that I have yet to see someone as open minded and kind as you respond similarly to a religous/spiritual statement like this one.

This post is not intended to be inflammatory or anything, I am just sincerely interested to know the answers to the questions I posed above.

PS: I am sure that while Allanon and I agree that Christ is the Lord, we probably don't see eye to eye on a myriad of other issues and doctrines regarding Christ and spirituality, HOWEVER my desire is to find the good/positive/truth in everyone's belief system and I respect everyone's beliefs equally.

Nick,
This is a fun topic, isn't it!?  You know when I read your post it reminded me of one more reason I play, it's a very effective form of escapism... and it's much less dangerous than other forms of escapism I employed in the past as a reckless youth.  Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that many people, especially children, waste dangerous amounts of time playing games and watching t.v. and suffer physical, emotional and mental consequences.  Setting limits in all things is a must.

I knew I wasn't the only gamer in here!  We're taking over![;)]

Anyway, I wanted to comment on what you said Nick.  You have no idea how many people tell me what you said, which is that they had to give it all up because it was too time consuming, like a drug or something!  I think, however, you can find a happy medium which allows you to enjoy gaming without going overboard...it's just hard to do!  I am usually ok, but when I get a new game and get compelled, I'll often play for hours.

I think the other posts show just how much variance there is between gamers and the kind of gaming they do.  There are so many different genres of games: sports, action, role playing, educational, racing, and the list goes on.  There truly is something for everyone.

I really love the Xbox simply because it has unparalleled hardware capabilities, although the gamecube and PS2 offer an amzing array of high end gaming experiences as well...especially the Gamecube.  Xbox rules the realm though...at least for now.  When PS3 comes out though it will be top dog...but then the Xbox 2 will come out and so on and so forth.  PS3 is due out sometime in 2005 with and so is the Xbox 2.  Someday we'll be in real VR I suppose.

Anyway, I would like to see someone here post a little history of video games, it would be interesting.  I am going to try to, but I vowed to myself to get some work done today so it'll have to wait.

Until then!
Dan

1972: (Magnavox Odyssey First home video game console)

I think we've all seen and been amused by Pong at one time or another. It was invented in 1972 by Nolan Bushnell at Atari. Once this game arrived in arcades, nothing would ever be the same. "AVOID MISSING BALL FOR HIGH SCORE", they said.

Most of us haven't seen the arcade Pong, however. Home Pong was released for the consumers in 1974, made possible with a drop in price of microchips. This is the system most of us remember--later, an extended Super Pong was released. And don't forget Video Olympics on Atari 2600!

Atari Pong was the original "hit a ball back and forth" game. Since this was so popular, a company by the name of General Instruments created a chip that held the essence of the game. With this chip, almost 100 companies made Pong clones, including Coleco, Radio Shack, and Magnavox. But nothing compares to the real thing.

Keep your eye on this page, I plan on including some technical information here for those who have no lives.

Yeah, I too use the automatic update feature, but I figured not everyone does.  I do recommend it because it takes the work out of it.  Unfortunately for those with dial-up like me it can take a while and cause slowing on the modem, but it's worth it!

Sorry the list went so long...and after I posted it I though to myself, "I hope someone finds this interesting?"  I guess I should pose a question to go along with it: Do any of these films suprise you as being movies that went to $100 mill so quick?

I too have had expereinces with the plant and I did not enjoy them nor do I recommend using any substance to achieve an OBE.  By the way, S.D. is at least legal and I don't forsee it becoming illegal because it doesn't have the appeal of an illegal substance, i.e., it is not "fun."

Hackers hint of plan to unleash havoc
By TED BRIDIS, Associated Press
August 1, 2003

WASHINGTON - Government and industry experts consider brewing hacker activity a precursor to a broad Internet attack that would target enormous numbers of computers vulnerable from a flaw in Windows software from Microsoft Corp.

Experts described an unusual confluence of conditions that heightens prospects for a serious disruption soon. They cite the high numbers of potential victims and increasingly sophisticated attack tools already tested successfully by hackers recently.

An alert distributed Thursday among U.S. government agencies warned of "widespread scanning and exploitation" of victim computers by hackers who were developing "improved and automated exploit tools."

The Homeland Security Department cautioned Wednesday that it had detected an "Internet-wide increase in scanning" for victim computers. In an unusually ominous alert, it warned the threat could cause a "significant impact" on the Internet.

Experts advised computer users with renewed urgency to apply a free repairing patch that Microsoft has offered on its Web site since July 16, when it acknowledged that the flaw affected nearly all versions of its flagship Windows operating system software. Applying Microsoft's repairing patch takes a few moments for home users but is a more daunting challenge for large corporations.

The Microsoft flaw affects Windows technology used to share data files across computer networks. It involves a category of vulnerabilities known as "buffer overflows," which can trick software into accepting dangerous commands.

"People are definitely aggressively trying to patch this," said Ken Dunham, an analyst at iDefense Inc., an online security company.

Big attack looms, warn experts

AUGUST 01, 2003

US government and industry experts consider increased hacker activity a precursor to a broad internet attack that would target enormous numbers of computers vulnerable from a Windows flaw.

Experts described an unusual confluence of conditions that heighten prospects for a serious disruption soon. They cite the high numbers of potential victims and increasingly sophisticated attack tools already tested successfully by hackers in recent days.
An alert distributed today among US government agencies warned of "widespread scanning and exploitation" of victim computers by hackers who were developing "improved and automated exploit tools".

The US Homeland Security Department cautioned that it had detected an "internet-wide increase in scanning" for victim computers. In an unusually ominous alert, it warned the threat could cause a "significant impact" on the internet.

Experts advised computer users with renewed urgency to apply a free repairing patch that Microsoft has offered on its web site since July 16, when it acknowledged that the flaw affected nearly all versions of its flagship Windows operating system .

An attack could come "any day now," predicted Chris Wysopal of US security company AtStake. Another company, Qualys, put the threat at the top of a newly released ranking of the internet's most severe vulnerabilities.

A disruption could be worse by orders of magnitude than previous high-profile attacks - such as the 2001 outbreak of the "Code Red" virus - because of the numbers of vulnerable systems, Alan Paller of the SANS Institute said.

Security companies guarding government and corporate networks have identified sporadic break-in attempts worldwide using such tools and have monitored hackers in discussion groups and chat rooms exchanging tips about how to improve the effectiveness of their programs.

Applying Microsoft's repairing patch takes a few moments for home users but is a more daunting challenge for large corporations with tens of thousands of Windows computers.

"People are definitely aggressively trying to patch this," iDefense analyst Ken Dunham said. "But a large rollout may need to take some time."

Researchers' biggest fears - that hackers will quickly unleash automated "worm" software that attacks large numbers of computers within minutes - have so far been unrealised.

"Everybody is predicting a widespread event, going from zero to 60 very quickly," Dan Ingevaldson, an engineering director for internet Security Systems said. He estimated the likelihood of a major internet attack as "closer to imminent than probable".

Depending on the hackers' designs, attack tools could be engineered to disrupt internet traffic by clogging data pipelines, delete important files or steal sensitive documents. Experts cautioned that a particularly clever hacker could leave little trace of an attack.

Oliver Friedrichs, the senior manager for security response at Symantec Corp, predicted that widespread attacks will not occur soon because hackers still need to resolve important glitches in their own attack tools.

"It is a little early," Mr Friedrichs said. "The exploit needs to be perfected. The effort applied to the exploit is certainly increased, but we're not sure if that's indicative of when we might see a widespread threat. People certainly need to be aware of this."

FBI spokesman Bill Murray said bureau investigators were studying several hacker tools designed so far and were highly concerned about a wide-scale internet attack. "We implore the private sector - both business and home users - to visit the Microsoft web site and install the patches and mitigations necessary to prevent this from creating a negative effect on the internet as a whole," Mr Murray said.

The Microsoft flaw affects Windows technology used to share data files across computer networks. It involves a category of vulnerabilities known as "buffer overflows", which can trick software into accepting dangerous commands.

THanks for the info Adrian, I for one found it most useful.  I am working on a book as well.  I am writing now more for practice than anything else however.  When the time comes to try to get published I am definetly going with a place like 1stbooks though.

"Welcome to this groove, you can move right
we gonna take you higher (higher)
not caught in the quagmire (mire)
I can't survive on a stupid nine to five
I'd rather be poor writing tunes livin' on a commune
kickin' it with my brothers (brothers)
and significant others (others)
life in pursuit of only money, we think it's funny
the only thing that money it could ever bring to me
would be some gifts for my friends
follow me now, trips for my family
the only thing I love is freedom (freedom)
the people around me I need them (I need them)"

AND

"Something you might like now
all-star bound yeah your so sound
cool as the blue water all around
from a force field flashing somebody is sending
black evolutions of love you are hearing
the dark supernatural is the world we call
our own home lightning in the mind comes out in song"

FINALLY

"You're a power spot rotating, ever-changing
transmitting like a radio wave frequently feeling
what's goin' on times are weird all this static
things erratic seems like we lost the magic
see hear how clear is inner quality
a yin and yang type of thang sacred geometry
ascending mad energy crazy bad
you're something NASA f---in' wish they had

Tune in for those who are wantin'
vision feel it from within, sing along
tune in for those who are wantin'
vision feel it from within

You're a star creator soul craft generator
movin' through time and space son you're a liberator
but you're memory has been erased
the things you knew misplaced check it out
Babylon life style we scorn
now we live again In L.A. Tokyo and New York"

Great link...but I moved it to AstralExperiences since it seems to have to do with a specific enlightening experience.

Thanks though!

If this is truly how you understand the concept of sacrifice then I pity you.

Sacrifice for me is coming home after a long day and going to an old woman's house and mowing her yard and weeding her garden instead of plopping on the couch or doing something I want to do.  Sacrifice is listening to some in pain even though it is not entirely pleasant.

Sacrifice for me is reading about a being who descended from higher dimensions to teach people the way to ascend the dimensional ladder.

Hey, we're your "peeps?"  I guess I'll take that as compliment[;)]  Just so you know, there are probably not too many people here who understand that kind of slang...

Anyway, I too suffer from very mild ADD...at least I think so.  I came up through the school system before that was the big diagnosis.

I don't have a lot of advice to offer you, but since no one else has chimed in I will say this: you can OBE regardless of these kinds of obstacles.  It's all in your head.  This is just my opinion, but I really think if you have the wherewithall to type out a message on a computer after getting online and finding this site, you should be able to do everything necessary to have an OBE.  It won't be easy (hey, it's not easy for anyone), but just focus on relaxing your body and don't worry about your thoughts.

Best!

Just to clarify, I have a copy of his book in which he makes it clear that he does tricks but likes to "market" himself as someone with supernatural gifts, that's all part of his gig.  This doesn't make any less amazing, in my opinion.  He does "magic" and he does it extremely well because of his life long ambition to be like those whom he adores, ie. Houdini, etc.

I can supply quotes from his book if you'd like.

Thanks for the link.  I haven't had much time to look around the site, but I did enjoy the intro and I am intrigued by the articles found in the site.

I am always happy to see new, well made websites out there about the spiritual element of reality.

It may or may not have been an OBE.  One thing we must remind oursleves when we discuss these matters is that it really isn't a black and white question, ie. OBE or non-OBE.  As Bruce himself makes clear in Astral Dynamics, his book, there is a spectrum of continuum of what we might call OBE.  You may not have been out-of-body per se, but you may have been seeing into the astral/spiritual realm.
#449
That's right!  I gorgot about that!  Thanks Adrian.

Also, thanks LindaSmith...your post is quite helpful.

Another question: Do you think it is correct to assume that the population of a wesbite like this one would have a higher percentage of people who have sought emotional/psychological help?

I personally do not, but then again I can imagine someone making the case.
