sorry about the long wait for a reply.I only have an hour a day on these stupid library computers! I think  I can start out by saying  that the more you practice lucid dreaming, the more your awareness becomes refined, the more real the dreamscape becomes, the more you can remember about your physical life, and the more control you begin to have over the dream, whether you want to ask questions to people or things in the dream,or whether you want to completely leave the dream (state your intent or need loudly, then just fly away).this allows you to apply specific needs and goals by being able to remember things about who you are in the physical.in the limitless and malleable reality of lucid dreams and other astral realitys, it allows you to access parts of your whole self and your past,or you can access other parts of the astral in order to bring more clarity and insight to your life.or you can access other astral realitys you are able to "tune in" to.
here's some specifics about this particular experience: I "woke up" in my room of about 15 years ago in an apartment building. It was incredibly solid and real-very close to the physicality of the physical world (very unlike most dreams-compare the "solidity-feeling-contrast" between the physical and a dream).I am a musician (guitarist), so naturally I was looking for guitars! when I picked up my dream guitar and started to play it-holy crap! It was soreal! the fingerboard felt perfectly solid and wooden! It was the same with the sitar and mandolin-I've never owned a sitar or mandolin, but I sure remembered them in the dream! (hmmm...past life?[:O])it was like that with everything there.the walls, pictures on the wall, it was all so "solid"! just like waking up in the past!
I don't know what else to say but that it was very unlike a "normal" lucid dream.I think this efrfect is from building awareness through practice, and if you don't keep it up, your awareness gets becomes less awake.

I also noticed that there are many completely different cultures around the world who basically teach the same things, using different teminology-without being a cult! I think I'll stick with those![:)]

for me,rope has never worked.I can't seem to control my imajination, and the rope would break off the ceiling, or the ceiling would collapse! I just couldn't control it.

his services are free, and he speaks against anyone who get into qigong for $ or social status (but then he SELLS his books-what's the hell's that about?).I know virtually nothing about qigong-perhaps you all can fill me in?[:)]it seems like it could help in astral projection and in other areas of life as well.his book is interesting, but it does aproach cult mentality in places (he says he is the ONLY ONE who teaches qigong from such a high level).he also talks about raising our level of moral character (xinxing)-and hence our level of conciousness through suffering, and the right approach to conflict and physical exercise (yoga, martial arts, although I haven't gotten to that chapter yet).here's a good question-I wonder exactly what kind of "suffering" does he have in mind?[:O] that's why I posted-a wierd, but interesting read.useful if genuine, enlightening if not.

that's some amazing artwork[8D]Insert.I'm going to check it out in more detail when I have more time (I use a library computer-only have an hour).great places to visit astrally if you can.I have never done something like that, but I've heard by several sources that it is possible.very cool stuff.quite inspiring.

I tink the important thing to explore in order to try to induce that kind of experience is the realtion between the tiredness of the body due to interrupted sleep, and the way to wake up your mind so you are physically very tired but mentally very clear.there is a delicate balance to achieve-I just stumbled upon it, but holy cow it was cool.[8D]if you wake up tooearly, you will be way too groggy, and won't be able to become mentally clear.if you wake up too late, your body will be too rested to "fall away".it would probably help to do some physical exercise during the day,but not so much that you are extremely exhausted and become mentally drained-that "tired to the point of drunkenness" feeling.I like to walk and hike-It gives physical exercise and mentall calmness.I found that during that particular experience, when I woke up, I was tired, but had too much muscle tension to fall asleep again,so I thouroughly stretched out all tension, then just started reading a book.over the period of about half an hour, I lost the groggy feeling and became mentally clear, then got tired again.it seemed to "prime" my conciousness-like warming it up.to simplify things-it's about finding the delicate balance between bodily tiredness, and mental clarity-the perfect recipe for intense lucid dreaming! they didn't seem like "normal" (if that's possible) lucid dreams though-they were much more real, and a lot wierder! my sense of conciousness didn't fade after a few minutes-it just kept going, and going, and going...until I awoke an hour and a half later! I think it is perfectly reproducable-it's just a matter of experimenting w/different times to wake up,preceeded and followed by the proper induction techniques.I would like to find out if anyone has had similar experiences, or have results based on the above technique.

that's a good point Tom made about how it is actually more important to keep track of how we use/lose energy.kind of like having a hole in your pocket and saying "I sure don't have much change in my pocket, I better put more in!".James S.-thancks for the shielding techniques, and general advice.Up until now I never realized what the hell was happening to me.I just knew I felt "different" in different places, and around different people.I think it started happening about ten years ago (around when I started obe!).It could have been happening before that, but I don't really remember.I seemed to go through a phaze where my sense of what is "real" turned from objective to subjective,if you know what I mean-things would just change constantly, depending on where I was and who I was with. This clarifies things a lot.I suspect that many people are empathic to some degree, they just don't conciously realize it.Maybe they figure they are just an emotional rollercoaster, and don't have any set beiliefs-due to the influence emotions have on what we believe about ourselves and the world. Is there a way to develop and strengthen these kinds of abilities in a positive way? I'm looking for more control.

can anyone suggest a good book about reiki-sounds interesting! deeply held beliefs about our physicality is probably one factor that keeps many people from experiencing O.B.E.'s.not entirely, but a piece of the puzzle anyways.
#460
kakkarots word "empathic" seems to apply very well here.I know wehat you mean when you say that unless I learn to detach from people a little,I'll never be able to help anyone, let alone one person.I never actually considered it before, but "empathic" seems to strike me as a good description.I sometimes "know" things about people-how they feel, general state of mind, sometimes even specific things.People just "radiate" things.I think everyone experiences this sometimes, but never really tune into it conciously.one time I made a few friends at a bar.I felt very agitated at paranoid around them.I didn't know what was going on,but I was very upset.there was a woman who seemed friendly. There was also a guy there who it turned out was an overly protective ex-boyfriend who didn't want anyone messing with her.I felt extremely agitated-something like a warning sign of extreme negativity surounding these people. There was another guy with them.I felt that he was a cocaine addict even before I actually met him.then one day a few months later I ran into the ex-boyfriend (we we "sort of" friends).he said that the other guy there was a cokehead who was spreading bad rumours about him.Even places seem to have emotional atmosphere in then, depending on who was there.
Tom made some good points.there are several places which do reiki sessions where I live.I might even be able to learn it somewhere.I've often seen it on signs, ads and stuff, but I never understood what it was.something to do w/balancing the electrical field surrounding the body? and the point he also made about how our physical postures influence/reflect our emotions is interesting also.like when someone is feeling depressed, that persons body posture reflects it.the same when we are feeling happy, angry, etc. This seems to mean that we all can use this to our advantage by noticing when we are feeling negative in some way. When we notice that,we can adopt a more relaxed, positive, and energised posture. My brother told me about that a long time ago,but I forgot until now! I never thought that various postures can put pressure on various chakras-that's interesting and deserves furthur study. do the postures in such practices as tai chi and tensegrity relate in a similar way?-to influence how we feel and percieve in general?                                                sometimes I do raise and gather energy as powder has suggested-although obviously not enough.[B)]

I'm 27,but I've been exploring astral projection since I was 15.

I occationally do the tibetan exercise #6.It does work! (for me anyways). It redirects the excess energy to the upper chakras.I usually do several repeats, and the excess (the "urge") is gone!

Welcome to Astral Chat! / Is Sai Baba GOD?
February 12, 2003, 12:40:24
so much for sai baba...oh well.I've wondered about that dude...Isn't there anyone around that claims to be spiritually advanced, who doesn't seem more like like a fraud and a liar w/no real proof? It's very depressing.[:(]why are so many religions tainted w/negativity,when they claim to be ways to enlightenment? killing and burning animals;Insertslavery;etc...[:(!]

speaking of spells-has anyone ever read the book-Necronomiconby Ed Simon? is it fiction, derived from H.P. Lovecrafts book? just wondering...

I've also experienced that many times. One time someone was trying to wake me up.I could hear them, but I couldn't move or respond. It's kind of fun,but annoying when you're trying to wake up, and your body says "no thanks"!

Welcome to Metaphysics! / The Quantum Wave effect
February 04, 2003, 13:34:44
one aspect that directly relates to quantum physics is the idea of a multi-dimentional universe.I don't know much more than that, but I do remember that many physicists say that the only way any of their current observations would make any sense is if we were part of a multi-verse,instead of a universe.I also know that our knowledge about ourselves and the multiverse is only in its infancy,so we shouldn't judge ourselves, and say "wow, thats crazy".To use an analogy-our complex technology and physical knowledge is absolutely incomprehensable to any animal species, yet their world view is just as real and valid as ours.the difference is that thierperceptual interpretationcomes from a different area.our world view is based on the workings of our own mind and brain.I believe the only reason we are unable to access our true conciousness is because our self-importance gets in the way, and we place limitations on what we can achieve. This has direct relations to modern physics in that we now realize that the old idea of a separate observer/observed phenomena is a false construct of our own ego-our need to interpret and classify everything.in other words-our potential to realize our true conciousness is unlimited, because we are beginning to understand that the universal beauty, order and power that seems to exist in the universe is actually within ourselves.

Welcome to Metaphysics! / The Quantum Wave effect

that's interesting that you bring that subject up.I've never played the game homeworld, but I think I know what you're talking about.I've been reading some stuff lately about quantum physics, and its relation and commonalities to eastern philosophy-a book called "the tao of physics" by fritjof capra, also one called "holographic universe" (I forget the author). It's true that everything is a manifestation of a universal energy all around us.A physicist would call it quantum field theory.I think buddista might call it pranaor chi(?).A toltec such (from Carlos Castaneda's writings) might call it the eagles emanations.Castaneda often writes about extremelybizzare events-such as the physical body completely transformed into pure energy and light, and trans-dimentional travel. It's highly conyroversial whether any of it is true (the author insists it is),but it doesn't diminish the impact of his work.I've also read about a yogi in india by the name of Sai Baba (in holographic universe) who is apparently able to do these things.I'm not saying everyone should instantly believe everything they read, because obviously there are many frauds everywhere, but in order to discover the truth about anything in general, it's important to maintain a balanced point of view of non-judgment,non-belief,and objective investigation, fully taking into consideration the vastly different thinking and perception of different cultures. It should also be remembered that these eastern and middle-american cultures are to spirituality, as the western society is to science,in terms of levels of advancement.I don't believe we understand a fraction of what humans are capable of.Taking all this into consideration, what you are talking about is a worthy subject of investigation, one that I am also intrigued by.I think a good place to start is the spirituality of world cultures.I'm thinking buddism, hinduism (I think that's where the word chakra came from),and zen. Also tribal cultures from around the world. The most important thing is to keep an openmind.non-judgement,non-belief,and perceptually objective investigation, which is the knowledge and attempted grasping of alternate ways of thinking.A state of fluidity.

Welcome to Spiritual Evolution! / Life
January 30, 2003, 13:23:19
I like to think of myself as compressed light.A tiny piece of the universe.I just read a book called "the tao of physics".It compares modern quantum physics w/eastern philosophy.Science and spirituality are finally starting to mix.scientists are finding that the classical notion of an odjective observer vs. observed reality is basically an illusion. We, and everything in the entire universe are connected on a fundamental level. The universe is composed of energy fields that are interrelating on the quantum level in impossibly complex ways.matter is composed of waves of energy that also have characteristics of particles. If we could see on an incredibly tiny scale, our ideas of ourselves, and the rest of the universe as being "out there somewhere"/matter composed of "fundamental building blocks", basically dissolves.everything-ourselves included- are composed of light. There is a theory called (I think) "quantum electrodynamics" that states that there is an unseen background electrical field that permiates everything, everywhere in the physical universe.Conciousness interacts w/the field in that it causes the transformation of parts the field into what we percieve as particles/waves of energy (electrons/protons,etc...)that come forward into what creates matter.Everything is energy.Everything is alive and dancing with motion deeper than the human eye percieves.Everything (planets/tables/people/you name it!) is a temporary state of energetic structures that are constantly transmuting into other forms of energy structures.Life is a piece of the universe. The universe is conciousness and life.We are filters that interpret energy fields in a certain way. When you alter your perception, the universe changes completely. This has comparisons with the dimentional/vibrational levels in astral projection. The universe vibrates at a certain rate.Learn to percieve higher frequencys of vibration, and you percieve different universes.

the suggestion about slouching reminds me of some elderly people who are very hunched over and can barely walk.It makes me wonder if that could be avoided sometimes by stretching, good posture, rolfing, yoga ,etc.keeping it up throughout life is probably a good way to help retain normal height and have a strong back as we get older.earlier, I was thinking along the lines of direct energtic/structural manipulation.changing the "quantum blueprint" (?) of the body on a level deeper than we normally see, thus altering the physical structure.that's a wierd idea![:)]

Once in a while I practice the 6th exercise when I feel an excess of sexual energy and don't feel like..uh..."dealing with it"[8)].after doing maybe a few repeats the excess energy is sent up to the upper chakras, and the sexual urge is gone! (for awhile). It feels like it creates a very strong "pull" that sends the excess energy upwards. If you hold the position for too long you will get dizzy and start seeing stars.BTW-only do the 6th exercise if you have anexcess of energy that would otherwise be used in sexual activity. If you do it at any ol' time you will drain the base chakra.I think I'll print out the other 5 exercises and start doing them as well! I would have started doing them a whiole ago, but I lost the website address.thanks for the link![:)]Insert

Welcome to Astral Chat! / milk
January 19, 2003, 13:17:25
I personally enjoy soy milk called "so good".It's basically just sweet tasting soy milk. It's strange that a lot of people look at soy milk and say something to the effect of "uugggh! that's gross!".What I find desgusting is drinking a fluid that comes from a cows innards, also laced with chemicals from the dairy corporations.
