I have always wondered what people meant by 'pretty close' when they themselves don't know what to expect.

Many I have come across over the years eventually have it and realise it was nothing like they expected.

Perfectly normal. You were simply experiencing Sleep Paralysis... called many things. The Vibrational State being one. I don't think the crystal will have changed anything. I've never used a crystal and have experienced what you describe many many times. :)

Have a little gander at that.

I used to like the challenge of teaching skeptics how to OOBE. I actually found it quite easy, which might give a little clue as to a type of successful mindset. Quite a few of my mates both proper friends, family and work colleagues have doubted me but had enough interest to want to know more. I basically said to them that they can have them... they generally warm to my method because it involves a simple sleep schedule that they can grasp... no talk of spirits... paranormal.. just sleep then... wake up then.. sleep then and do this.

Many of them still do it. The bosses son is one.. who constantly tries to catch some OOBE time during lunchtime. Three of them fell out with me because it freaked them out. One wouldn't soeak to me then proclaimed at lunchtime told me at work

'Thanks Ben... that was like a cow sitting on my F$&$^£g chest'.

I don't see what's important about getting skeptics to believe him or skeptics to believe the whole thing. What's it going to achieve really? For one scientist who agrees, a thousand more will disagree. Science won't be leading the way in this subject. They'll be catching up to us... they are.. slowly.

I don't really want to escape my "real" life's bothers. It's just that if I could realize that there's more to this world than meets the eye, it might give me more perspectives on some things.

I understand. I was just covering that angle because it's a very common agenda for people wanting to learn. I didn't mean to lump you in. I suppose I take it for granted that there is more and forget that people are searching for that elusive proof.

Stick at it though.

So you wake up and catch the remnants of SP as they dwindle away?

I think it is what he means. We have talked often and compare notes once in awhile.

We basically use the exact same technique.

I notice that when you let that image/visual fade away, that the next time it comes back, which it usually does, it will be far more vivid. But, in the mean time, you have noticed that something is different.

You have spent all that time creating and noticing, while your reality was already shifting around you.

The creating and noticing was just there as something to do, kind of like a time filler, while you awaited the shift.

It almost reminds me of nodding off on a car journey... or during a lecture. That sudden 'start' one gets when they realise they were falling asleep... like a jolt of 'and return'. But instead of waking up after realising you were veering away you 'wake up' in another sense.

Active imagination is I think a good term. Maybe Active passive Imagination would fit the bill... but 'there' is a good enough description.

I don't think it's very common... even amongst artists. Many artists I know almost start their project hoping to get a feel for it and then it builds and evolves... I don't. I get very succinct imagery and stories that go with the imagery. I am often slightly 'jealous' (for want of a better term) that I can't free myself up like most artists. I see.. and want to put it down in the detail I see it in. I can sometimes muster voluntary images but they're never as pure or 'independant'

I get this when I close my eyes in waking normal life.. sometimes they superimpose on my vision with my eyes open. This is how I do my concept art.. I've never felt personally responsible for the stuff I design.

I get phosphenes at first then if I haven't primed myself (had a nap) I will get scenarios and random images fading in and out of my mind's eye. Usually they are totally unconnected to my actual thoughts and sometimes when I try to analyse them or even remember them a split second after they slip through my fingers... as though I stepped in then out of another head space.
#59
This was an OOBE... a confusing RTZ one it seems... but an OOBE non-the-less.
#60
Are you on about Phosphenes or actual distinct images?

If you read Contenteo's post here, he talks about focusing, then losing that focus as his actual technique.

wow... never noticed that. I say exactly the same thing.. that it's the mind wandering off the focus and being noticed that causes the 'shift'. If that's what he means.

Hey LazyPanda.

You are answering your own questions and thoughts. :)

You have nagging things on your mind. Deal with them. Don't try to use AP to escape the niggles and life problems. It may be your way of telling yourself to deal with the problems first. Maybe.

And sometimes I feel a bit jealous when I read other people's stories about them just getting there without even trying, or being able to project at will, any place, any time. Sorry about that.  :|

Don't worry... most people can't.... most people say they do but don't. I don't know of anyone who can just AP at the drop of a hat. Everyone goes through these bald patches.

Nothing like this is verifiable scientifically. The problem is with NDEs is that they are impossible to prove under current scientific understanding... which is lacking in the whole area of consciousness.

A sun shining at night implies no atmosphere.

Just thought I'd mention that.

Are you saying that all dreams are actually some type of AP?

In simple terms... yes.. and visa versa.

Quote from: Bulletinte on July 15, 2013, 23:18:55
Also, when I AP, do I always go into an 'artificial,' for lack of a better word, environment?  If I AP in my house...am I actually IN my OWN house?

For instance...saying I did actually AP last night.  Was I in my house?  Or a construct of my house - not actually there?  Can I be in the actual house?
If I did AP...how is it different than a dream?

I used to have real time zone projections when I was younger. It's a shame I don't get them as much now.. if only for the reason of analysing them a bit closer. I used to take for granted that I was actually projecting into this reality.

Anyway.. if you manage to have RTZ projections... you will know that you are in reality. There are no characters/entities... everything is perfectly normal and time is relevant to this time. Everything and everyone is where it's/they're supposed to be. Generally though what you are experiencing is a nonphysical construct... which this reality is... both are constructs.

If you had a hard time following me on the previous post about dreams and AP... then you probably aren't going to appreciate a massive description of reality... of which then would be derived the answer to your question. It's the most hotly debated part of consciousness exploration and I definitely don't have the answers. More importantly... the answer is irrelevant unless you yourself experience it first. There are no easy quick answers with this subject. No soundbites and quick buck fast 'n' easy popcorn culture answers.

If you are really interested in what reality is I recommend My Big TOE by Thomas Campbell. He outlines a model of reality that is second to none. It's a massive trilogy that takes a lot of reading and understanding. But having read it you would have a lot of answers and gain an understanding that would surpass my vain attempts at explaining it in a forum post. :)

please explain if possible, lamen terms

When I say use a metaphor for separating... I'm saying that it makes it easier for someone to separate using their creativity.

Some people's descriptions of how they separate can be quite creative and imaginative. I was just giving an example of how some people use the sensations during SP to help the metaphor (way) they separate. That it's an energy body coming out... that the raising of the vibrations determines the success of their separation... that they are pulled out by an entity... that they are carried off by aliens (in some cases.. not all).

Last night I awoke up around 3am after going to bed at 11pm. I lay there and thought to myself that I would try SP so I did. Went to the loo so as I settled down with no physical discomfort I completely relaxed every muscle in my body.

25mins or so well, it felt as if it was that length of time went by and I had already noticed that most of my body was numb. My thoughts swung from imagining myself standing beside my bed then at my bedroom door all ths while willing myself to exit. I looked at the blackness behind my eye lids to see if I could evoke any Hypnogogic images, but no i couldn't.

Then mild vibrations started around my lower leg area. It felt like a warm feeling and then it shot up to my chest and head area. The feeling was amazing but my heart rate increased my breathing increased and my eye lids started to flutter. While this was happening I kept telling myself to just relax and let it happen. But, the feeling disapated and was near enough gone almost immediately. I lay there for an other 10 mins or so but then turned and fell asleep.

The frustrating thing is that I know what's happening to me but for the life of me I need an effective method to just let it happen instead of doing just the opposite.

Thanks

It is very common (myself included) for newbies to experience a thumping heart rate... dizzyness or vertigo... fluttering/vibrating eyelids. It seems to be  a phenomenological modality of induced Sleep Paralysis for beginners.

That was AP yes... that was the nonphysical reality. When you are dreaming you also operate in the same environment (for want of a better term). When you are doing it consciously.. LD/AP/OOBE... you are fully present within the experience... dreaming is you just observing your presence and activities within the NPMR.

It is VERY highly likely that we are always operating in the nonphysical. When we are awake we are there. When we daydream about a situation we are observing it, acting out the situation. When you dream, you are connected to, it but you are observing it like you would a very interactive movie. You are along for the ride as it deliriously trots about believing the constructs and scenarios it has imposed on itself... which is a natural learning tool that many ignore. When you become lucid you are basically 'catching' up with your nonphysical and becoming present. Your focus of consciousness and awareness has shifted from your physical to your nonphysical... you have stepped inside your 'other' self mid dream. During AP you basically walk into the dream environment from scratch. You have walked onto the set of the film and can fully interact with the other actors.

The Laxman is pocket orientated. I'll probably splash out on one when I get some spare change. ;)

You know. I don't think we are all different. It's a term commonly used on AP forums yet all I see is similarities and sameness. If we were all different we wouldn't feel the sense of camaraderie we do. We would have nothing to relate to. There would be no use for guides or teachers.. because... after all... what can they teach if what they do is different?

No.. we are all the same... we just have differing opinions, beliefs, qualia and life experience... varied ages... tastes. But we share this thing in common.

I haven't come across a separation method I haven't already used nor a description of the nonphysical or SP that I can't relate to or empathise with.

I tell a lie... I haven't tried the candle flame staring method that Lionheart discovered AP with. But I know if I tried it.. it would work a treat.

Anyway... I didn't used to phase because I believed that the SP or LD was the only way to get nonphysical. When I tried it I found out I could also phase. Now they have combined into my own thing. That I'm sure anyone can do given the right circumstances.

*EDIT*

and there's no single way that doesn't work for everyone.

I've separated at different times... in many... if not hundreds of different ways.

These days I lay down.. get comfy... and wait a little while. I notice the state and turn my attention to the nonphysical 'me'. Sometimes I float out but more commonly I just end up somewhere. Generally wherever my nonphysical was before I turned my attention to it.

He's actually more pleasant to listen to than Tolle.

You don't need to aim for SP to get nonphysical. But my advice for you is to nap prior to inducing it. So to do it on a night have a short nap an hour or so before actually attempting it. more often than not a pre-sleep is an essential ingredient for experiencing SP.
