I think that idea that Kurzweil mentions on his website, about reverse engineering the human brain, should give us significant insights into AI.

Yes, it will require nanotechnology and a more advanced understanding of chemical processes at the molecular level to both reduce and ultimately stop all damage to the environment that we humans do.  We are finding ways to do things with less waste.  Nanotechnology (forms of molecule collectors and filters) will be required to clean up the damage we have already done.

Quote1) "The sun rays dont carry heat" - they do. double check your info please. plus the word "rays" sounds confusing here. you know that light is waves/particles, right?

2) "the colors are in between based on how much light is reflected" - no, not how much, but rather what wavelength of.

3) "UV rays do NOT carry heat" - they do. double check your info please. UV rays are photons as much as other photons. hence they have energy.

Yes exactly.  The action of either matter or energy bombarding other matter causes an increase in kinetic energy which is heat.

The gods hate me and I've managed to project a few times.  Just keep practicing and do it in spite of 'em.

That is, I mean, humans from a physical perspective are too short-lived and easily damaged.  They aren't actually 'worthless', just far less than they can be.

QuoteIn the UK we learned the hard way, via Oliver Cromwell etc, that you do NOT mix religion and politics otherwise you are going to have problems; so we are shocked by the constant use of religion by US politicians as this goes against the grain with us.

The way the US is going is a worry - as much for the journey back towards conservativism on most issues as with religion.  Bio-conservatisim, concerning stem cell research and the like, is a Nazi-like nightmare.  Even more worrying from my perspective is that Australia likes to copy whatever the US does.  There is already some evidence of it with the rise of a 'Family First' party created by a bunch of churches and the outright banning of human cloning.  NOoooooooo!!

Finally we can become something better than stinking, worthless humans

Magnetic monopoles have not been proven to exist either.  The fact that this guy is into the non-existent healing properties of 'magnetic water' is a big clue as to his legitimate his "research" is.

QuoteSince then, mathematics has grown to be a more successful model of explaining reality. Probably the only reason spirituality seems to stick around is because we're afraid of death
Exactly, its a comfort for people in their powerless state.  It's a way of dealing with those things we are the victims of : disease, death, poverty.  If science manages to solve these problems to, spirituality either disappears or it gets reduced to 'explaining' the things that we are still ignorant of (if anything).

I would take what that guy says with a grain of salt.  He's on another website advertising the health benefits of "magnetized water" if you believe it!
I also take issue with him insisting that the universe is 'easy to understand'.  It reminds me of people declaring over a century ago that physics was complete, before quantum physics.

QuoteThe problem with the spatially limited universe theory is the notion of implausible spatial confines.
Let's say that the universe is spatially limited. In due course the question comes to mind: "what is beyond the universe"? Or "what is the universe expanding into?" Next we can say that it is expanding into another universe. But then, someone will surely ask: "where is that other universe expanding into?" And so the questions become redundant as the result materializes as theoretically infinite exponentially expanding universes.
There is, literally, nothing beyond the universe.  It doesn't expand "into" anything.

QuoteThe problem with the spatially unlimited universe theory lies in Zeno's paradox. If we state that the spatial volume of the universe is infinitely large, therefore it must be infinitely small too. However a philosophical problem arises with this notion. Zeno's paradox states that from observational reality the notion of matter being infinitely small is unsustainable. Quoting from the site, a runner for example who must run a 100m race must face 1x100m. Or we can express this mathematically as 2x50m, or 4x25m ect. However if matter is infinitely small then we can continue making the number of meters that we are multiplying smaller. If this pattern continues it is evident that the runner will never reach his destination.

You've left time out of the equation.  If you say it in terms of the runner facing 100m and he takes 10 seconds to run it, then facing 10x10m will be split up into 10 one second time intervals.  Cutting it up into an infinite number of intervals means the runner runs no distance in no time, which is so obvious it is a pointless statement.

QuoteIf there is an absolute smallest particle (such as an atom) that is no further reducible then obviously there are an increasing number of *atoms* in the universe as it expands. This is true in my opinion because as the universe is expanding now but matter is not being "stretched" as such, rather new matter is materializing. This would explicate the problem of all existing matter being condensed down to the size of a pea as the additional matter would simply no longer exist.

It doesn't necessarily follow that the number of atoms expands if the universe is expanding.  The distance between atoms, or clumps of atoms could simply be increasing.
As it happens, many scientists do theorize that new matter is materializing or at least new energy - or at least something that is causing the universe to accelerate in its expansion.

QuoteWave pattern? Screw it, there's nothing saying we can't have both spirituality and materialism.
Good point.
QuoteDo you think in the dark ages when people were starving and had nothing that they were spiritual? They didn't have time, they had to kill each other for food. Any visions they might have had were inspired by hunger.
People look back at these time periods with a kind of romantic nostalgia, when in fact these were dark, barbaric times where the vast majority lived in poverty and misery.

The real problem lies with human beings as a collective group.  Individually, they can be anything they want.  They can strive for any goal, high or low.  Collectively, nothing much changes.  There is too much inertia.
The other problem is that emotion rules the decisions of the masses, not reason.  These emotions are usually negative - fear, anger etc.
The trouble with humanity 'swinging back' towards spirituality is the type of spirituality that will be pushed at people.  Typically it's been a prejudiced, intolerant set of beliefs that are usually set in stone - eg State Religions.  It's never worked.  It usually ends up creating massive inequality with some kind of priesthood.
What I am saying, is that humanity as a group never gets it right.

This sort of advanced technology does what most other technology has done for humans -given us more control, more choices and the possibility of more finding more answers.
This time the choices are more profound - stay human or become something else, whether to die or not.
If it is wrong to live indefinitely physically, how do we find this out?  I say, let's try it and see.
Let's test the validity of astral/spiritual belief systems.
Personally, I would like to avoid dying until I knew for a fact that death wasn't the end.  I would like to hang around physically for a few thousand years anyway, to do everything that I want to do, as often as I want do do it.

I think it may be what you subconsciously feel is natural.  I don't really know, I don't have enough experience yet.  Each time I went outside (only three times so far) and I wanted to try and explore anywhere, I would head to about ten metres up in the air, without trying to.
As for inside ... probably similar to you.

Cheers, MajorTom & Gandalf.

You have provided some good explanations.   :D

I think I'll stop fussing over Focus levels and just get out there and do it!
#66
QuoteActual separation into the RTZ, which is what you are probably referring to, I would locate at focus 21. From focus 21, it also possible to 'phase' into the 'astral'.

Thanks MajorTom.  That makes a lot of sense.  I've just been trying to put together a map of it all (if that's possible) and I am just trying to clarify things.
#67
In what Focus level (or levels) is the Real Time Zone situated?
#68
Yes, it's about ten metres up when I'm outside.
