Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Re: i'm lost
February 01, 2007, 08:03:21
dRealM, welcome :)

It doesn't really matter who you talk to in order to grasp an understanding of it. If you approach a skeptic he might say...

"I am an expert, I have read theories, and you are just crazy"

Then you approach a community you feel more attracted to and the response is...

"Welcome, we're still exploring and learning. Come and join us if you want"

Stick with what makes you feel comfortable. Don't take everything at face value and be mindful of how you react to what's being said. As far as the concept of reality goes, there are many theories and be assured that science knows a lot less than it claims to. You don't have to wait for it to catch up.

My greatest annoyance lies in being unable to convey how magnificent this stuff really is.

I had a false awakening in the bus when I was 13, I dreamt that I was getting off the bus... Needless to say, I missed my stop :-(

LOL :D

Rational thinking is highly overrated, especially when it operates within a limited understanding. It might make you look good until everything has to be rewritten for the umpteenth time though.

Both rational and irrational thinking can be used to cause harm to people. It's about going with the positive feelings.

That's something which bothers religion and scientism alike. If you haven't been to both ends of the spectrum then it's unlikely that you would be balanced in your thinking.

Before asking someone to take their head out of the clouds, stop and critique your own thinking with the same emotional investment, it's far more productive.

Yeah, the guy presenting it (Gregg Braden) has good communication skills. : )

He really enjoys his work.

This is a tried and proven method, sleep deprivation does indeed make things easier. The constant conscious effort to stay awake becomes something like a reflex action, if only for a little while, and makes it easier to keep lucid and retain mental critique. This is how I got my second experience.

I'm sure Athel will post here regarding the ups and downs, he's a fan of this method : p

If you're really struggling for your first experience then perhaps try it but don't pursue it any longer than 2 nights max. To even suggest this is slightly irresponsible but truth be told I've done things which were almost crazy when I first started taking an interest.

I have a longing inside me to live as a wild man and wrestle with bears of the forest. : p

I think it's more to do with a longing for a forced change in living patterns. Blowing up the planet is also a way of attaining an adrenaline rush : p

<Stabs at the topic title>

Yes, it's what we call a subjective experience. You can spend a lifetime looking for external validation and never find anything meaningful.

Yes, many people are ignorant of it.

I have many more lucid dreams than I do OBEs and the simple fact of the matter is that if you're not sure whether or not you had a fully immersive OBE then it's most likely you didn't. That's fine though because for those of us who have these experiences we don't need anyone elses opinion on whether it's real or not hehe. Not unless we're in conflict.

Using the term weak-souled is an interesting thing to do. You mention evil and there's some heavy intellectualizing going on here ; )

You've obviously come to terms with something recently so congratulations on that. Welcome to less-limited thinking : D

The last time I tried to examine my body while I was "out" strange things happened. The moment I "touched" it, it started coughing and going into spasms before turning into another identitfy entirely. It turned into my brother who was asleep in the next room. I spoke to it and since I had my full mental critique with me asked it to integrate back with whoever it came from. The response I got was "no, it's alright", I walked over to my brother's room with this entity following me. When we got there he wouldn't do or say anything, it was as though he was there to confuse me. Then I heard my brother speaking in his sleep, "bad men don't change" or something.

This was one of the clearer experiences and while it was hard to get anything meaningful from it I am happy to have had it.

This resonates so strongly with what's going on in my life that it's uncanny.

4th Edit: I removed my post. I was offended by the ignorance of the OP, a silly thing to get worked up over.

This should be exciting : D </ignorance>

As painful as this has been to me, my way of preparing for 2012 is by making an attempt to understand people. I have read just about every opinion there is on intelligent design, darwinism, OOBEs from a scientific perspective, spirituality etc...

The process has hit me hard, I see a lot of vocal objections from every possible camp and they're all terrified of each other. There is great mockery among these people and they are only driving themselves further apart. I even tried to get involved once only to have my entire explanation deleted by an administrator on another forum. Some people just do not want to know.

Here's a quote from one of those community admins...

Quotesadly this is my Channel, no free speech here

You really can't persuade people to think how you do. Even instilling inspiration via positive communication has become more difficult. I now know that in order to avoid the kind of pain that these people experience every day I must stop talking to them and go by my own experiences. I wanted to understand them out of love and now I fear I understand them all too well. They are terrified of each other.

I have had absolutely stunning imagery. The really clear stuff flashes on for about a second or two. Something quite memorable was a picture of a tired man getting off a throne. It just pops before your eyes.

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Re: Spiders

I've only experienced this once and it happened on my first ever encounter with sleep paralysis. It was giant black spider which clung to the section where the wall meets the ceiling. All I could do was stare at it in bewilderment until eventually if dissipated into a black mist.

'twas funky : p

Just in case you're feeling lonely...

I'm reading her autobiography now (found an old book in the attic) and I must say, it's fascinating. She has to come to terms with what is happening in here life but in a time when to even mention such things would make you a complete social outcast.

Hah, pretty dramatic eh?

One time I was doing some remote healing on someone's throat and they reported that their speakers were going crazy with static.

Congratulations, this is a good sign if your goal is to induce a conscious transition to an OOBE. The shaking of what seems to be your entire room is a common experience. In my case, the strongest vibrations took place the first time it happened, it felt like a jet engine was right next to me.

Your body becoming numb can be interpreted as being the first stages of sleep paralysis. Your heart beating extraordinarily fast is also well documented, it is understood as being the heart chakra reacting to your energy flow.

One thing which bothers me...

QuoteThe side of my body itched and i woke up

If you were dreaming then it might not be important as it could have just been a dream. What you are describing is something that happens, for me, in a fully conscious state. Whether this is due to me maintaining my awareness while transitioning to another state, I don't know.

In regards to his comments, he's referring to research similar to that of neurologist Dr. Olaf Blanke's.

An article can be found here...

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2006/10/08/MNGNELI3IO1.DTL

Here are some quotes...

QuoteThere is nothing mystical about these ghostly experiences, said Peter Brugger, a neuroscientist at University Hospital in Zurich, who was not involved in the experiments but is an expert on phantom limbs, the sensation of still feeling a limb that has been amputated, and other mind-bending phenomena.

QuoteAnd while it may be tempting to invoke the supernatural when this body sense goes awry, he said the true explanation is a very natural one, the brain's attempt to make sense of conflicting information.

You have to take into account that this is western science and that, by nature, it is very dismissive of such concepts. While, in time, this will change, at the moment it's just dramatic irony whenever they announce something with these kinds of implications.

React however you want to it. If you've had an OOBE manifest from your pure intent then all of this is irrelivant anyway. Again, they haven't found anything. It's just pushing buttons and making forgone conclusions (followed by announcing it to the world in an endeavour to be recognised as being one of the first to research it [and therefore believing themselves to be in a position of authority]).

I have nothing but respect for those who actually want to teach. The only problem lies in finding someone who is actually capable enough of "spreading the light". Discernment is so important these days as just about anyone can regurgitate "snippets of wisdom".

Right now I'm looking at the "Metaphysics" forum on that website and I see the following topics...

"Magical Slavery - Help?"
"7 Rays"
"Dark Matter & the Universe"
"The End Times?"
"Trees"

Metaphysics is now so vague that it's almost all-encompassing. All I'm seeing here is a bunch of theories with the only shared attribute being the context; spirituality + "metaphysics" (non-specific by nature). Very little of what's on that site involves the practical application of the skill you're meant to be studying. There's a whole unit on auras which is nothing more than the review of related literature. It has nothing involved with actually "seeing them" for yourself (something which I have yet to fully experience and "confirm" for myself).

QuoteBut to be classified by a title in spirituality, to me it's useless along with the price.

I agree with that.

I'm sure some people would find it interesting but I'm after something more personal.

The irony being that while I have become somewhat open-minded and happy in my own knowledge and experience, I have also become skeptical and weary of anyone else trying to create a system out of it. Having said that, I have great respect for the subjects involved on that page (a contradiction there, yes).

Charging money for it is almost unforgivable as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to involve something I consider to be sacred with "questionable agendas". I admit my fear now, anyone with a "doctorate" in these fields is going to have the misconception that he/she knows what they are talking about and believe that they might even be "enlightened". Not to mention the potential such a person would have of causing irreparable damage to the public perception of "metaphysics", non-religious spirituality, OOBEs etc...

Bleh, it sends shivers up my spine.

I guess everytime you get a little further it's more amazing, so if you take it all at once then the excitment gets over pretty quickly.  Kinda like x-mas morning when you open all your gifts all at once, then the thrill of not knowing is all over almost before you've begun.

I just had another look at this statement and realised that there is some truth to it. After I managed to get the "super heavy vibes" for my first time I broke off the session and found myself full of conceit for having achieved what I thought to be an amazing feat when it, in reality, was something so small in comparison to my real goal. I was so happy with myself that I believed I could do it any time. Sure enough, it was a good few months before I got anything like that sensation again.

"Everything at once" isn't the right way to put it though, that would have been way too much for me when I first took an interest. When/if you feel the big vibes for the first time (some people manage to circumvent them altogether) don't make the same mistake I did, just sit tight and see what happens. It's very easy to want to "bail out" at that stage as it's just so intense. My thinking was...

"yeah, I'm doing it...s**t this is scary...maybe this is far enough"

Edit: And for God's sake, stay positive : p
