PeacefulWarrior,

I was referring specifically to subliminal tapes as the ones I was a bit skeptical of.  However, as far as Hemi-Synch tapes are concerned, I've read many great things about how effective they are and would love to try them oneday in the hopefully not-too-distant future.  My one 'complaint' though is that they ain't cheap. http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile_shock.gif" border=0>

Thanks Astralc, I've always been a bit of a skeptic when it came to subliminal stuff.  The reason I posted this question was because my brother recently ordered a subliminal tape that was designed for triggering astral projections.  He's very much into the subliminal thing and feels he's going to get the results he's looking for.  No doubt he will, if, as you so correctly stated, he believes he will.

I liked what you had to say about making one's OWN tapes, using one's own voice and selection of music.  I can see the logic of this and have no doubt that it probably would be more effective than mass-marketed tapes.  Oneday I'll give this a try just for fun.  Thanks again.

There have been some interesting points raised here.  How does one know for sure if a visit to another planet is a real event, or perhaps a visit to another dimension, or even an incredibly lucid dream?  Personally I feel that it IS possible to make planetary journies, but for a novice like myself how does one know for certain exactly what one has experienced?  For example, about 5 years ago I had an experience that I could have sworn was an actual visit to another planet, yet have often wondered if the whole experience had taken place in another dimension with alien surroundings.  Or was it an incredible lucid dream?  I've since quit trying to figure this one out.

An interesting point.  I think most of us have fears of  one kind or other when we astral project, even if subconscious.  What you describe Daniel, sounds like a 'thought form', or rather images conjured up by your own imagination - and fear.  If however you have NO fear of spiders, and consequently don't think about them when OOB, then perhaps it could be an elemental, or some other low entity.

If anyone here has listened to Art Bell over the last 1 or 2 years, there has been much discussion on a type of entity that Art refers to as a 'shadow person' or the 'shadow people'.  Some of your desciptions sound pretty much like these entities.

Hi Quant, I'm not an expert on this subject by any stretch of the imagination but I've always read that these negative entities only inhabited the 'lower' realms of the astral, though I could be wrong.  I've also read that as a person 'raises' their vibrations these entities cease to be a problem, since they are primarily on a low vibratory level.

That's right Alfa_33au, I've been reading Lobsang Rampa for years, though I haven't picked up any of his books in about 20 years.  It was Rampa's books that first got me interested in astral projection (I was about 18 at the time).  His writings about life in a Tibeten lamasary is fascinating.

Inguma, would 'Negs' happen to be shorthand for 'Negative Entities'?  Also, can they cause any harm to inexperienced travelers (according to Robert Bruce)?

Hi Kodemaster!  Sounds like an experience that OBE writer Bill Buhlman speaks of in his book 'Adventure's Beyond the Body'.  In fact he devotes considerable time explaining why we see things differently when we are awake as compared to the OBE state.  If you can get this book I highly recommend it.  It will explain this puzzling phenomenon.  I could try to explain it, but believe me, you'd be a heck of a lot more confused.

I guess I'm one of those people who use both these expressions interchangeably.  I don't know if it really makes a difference which expression you choose and how you choose to use it.

Hmmm...this brings up an interesting question.  I'm about halfway through a book by Lobsang T. Rampa (You Forever!) and he states quite emphatically that taking mind-altering substances like drugs or alcohol can drive one into the "lower astral" where you can find yourself face-to-face with rather unpleasant characters called 'elementals'.  If that's the case why bother?  If mind-altering substances really do keep one from accessing the higher planes, and if they should effect the quality of an OOB for the negative, then is it worth it?  I'm not presuming to speak for anyone here of course.  As the saying goes, "different strokes for different folks".

I agree with Alfa_33au when they said that if you can't handle substances while fully awake, then how can you expect to handle them when in an altered state?  At any rate, with my luck I'd get pulled over by an astral cop and sent back to the physical.

Count me in as a hermit type also. It's strange, but there seems to be some sort of stigma about being alone, as though society places extreme, but undue importance on socializing with other people.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not condemming getting out and doing things with people, it's just that I prefer my own company to that of other people (as another poster here said), with one exception: people that are like-minded.  I very much enjoy the company of people that I can share similar ideas with.  I have a friend whom I met in the Air Force almost 22 years ago, and though we differ slightly in personality, we are very much alike in outlook and attitude.  When we call each other (he's in Colorado, I'm in California) we can go on for hours...

Because I'm sharing a duplex with 2 brothers and therefore don't have the luxury of being completey alone, I really can't say much regarding this topic of OBE's being effected, or enhanced by solitude.  My intuition however tells me that it would IMHO.  After all, many of the ancient writings from the east tell of sages and masters that retreated to the mountains, forest, or some other secluded spot away from society to further their spiritual development.

Yeah, I can understand your sentiments Alfa_33au, I often have a strange sense of homesickness too, and I've only had several astral projections in the last several years. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way. Coincidently, OBE writer Albert Taylor mentions this too in his book as well as during a radio program with Art Bell.

Most of the people's books that I'm reading now on Astral Projection do not use any form of protection, but do not advise against it either if it gives the OBE'er greater confidence.

Sounds interesting, but I can't say that I've experienced anything of this nature happen to me personally.  However if you click on the following link you'll read about a man who has experienced these electrical-like sensations.  He mentions electric sparks on the 6th parapgraph.  This excerpt was taken from Robert Petersons book 'Out-Of-Body Experiences'.  He includes excerpts from other chapters at bottom of page.

Thanks Grende01, I'm going to give your suggestion a try.

Yeah, Al is probably my favorite person to listen to who talks about astral projection.  His enthusiasm is quite contagious.

Oneday, if you're willing to give his 'Interupted Sleep Technique' a try, let me know how it works for you. I work nights mostly (an ungodly shift it is), and have used his technique in a modified form with moderate success.  Though I didn't have a fullbown projection using this 'modified' approach, I came quite close to doing so.  I think if I REALLY put my all into his technique I probably could do it.  I also instinctively feel that this is an excellent technique that would be very helpful to a lot of people. Al himself says that this approach works 80% of the time for most people.  The problem is I don't like getting up in the middle of the night for two hours.  Like Bill Cosby said "I cherish sleep like most guys cherish a steak".  http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile_big.gif" border=0>

I've read both of these books, and they're both great, though in different ways.  Bill Buhlman's book is more technical, as well as more thorough.  He even covers quantum physics, drawing close parallels between astral projection and this intriquing science.  Of course he includes some of his earliers experiences, as well as those leading up to his first astral projection.  I personally find William Buhlman to be more scientific in his writing style, but by no means boring.  In a nutshell Buhlman's approach centers around a technique called 'The Target Technique' in which a person focuses on an object in another part of their home, the idea being that by focussing your attention away from your body, you can trigger an OOBE.  Bill has a great website:  http://www.out-of-body.com/

By contrast, Al Taylor's book is more journalistic, with less emphasis on technique and science.  Most of the book recounts his astral adventures, with the last 2 chapters devoted to techniques.  His approach centers around a technique called 'The Interupted Sleep Technique' in which the person goes to bed (say at 10 pm), awaken at 1 am, stay up for 2 hours (no lying in bed), then goes back to bed, relax, and don't move.  This will supposedly bring on what he calls "the paralysis state" in which the subject can then use to project from.  Al has an interesting website:   http://www.alberttaylor.com/  and this one, which is almost a replica of the first:  http://hometown.aol.com/soltravler/obe.html

Another person who deserves mentioning is Robert Peterson who also has a great website:  http://www.robertpeterson.org/obebook.html

Hi Qui-Gon Jinn.  As a matter of fact there is another person whom I listen to on the internet (and who has free programs).  She is very similar to Art Bell and Jeff Rense.  Her name is Laura Lee and her website is:   http://www.lauralee.com/

Just click "Audio On Demand" at top of page to listen to programs.

There's a book by Dr. Douglas Baker called 'Practical Techniques Of Astral Projection' which talks about using dreams to have an OBE from.  I read this book many years ago and it has an interesting premise, which basically amounts to becoming lucid while dreaming, then projecting to wherever you wish to go.  Try as I might it never worked for me (I usually ended up waking up), so I'm not a big fan of this technique.

I believe they're having problems with the archives at the moment, as this link states:  http://www.rense.com/intr.htm

I hope they get it up and going soon because there's a lot of great info there.

I just tried downloading the links and they all work except the one for Sep 8th.

If you want to download to your hard-drive just right-click on the date of the program, click on "Save Program As",  and stick it on your desktop (or wherever).

BTW if you're interested in Jeff Rense's website here it is:  www.rense.com

Jeff Rense is very similar to Art Bell in the content of his programming, but I like him even better than Art in his interviewing style. He has a very easy-going approach, and doesn't interupt his guests (unlike Art).  Nope, he's not as big as Art Bell, but I suppose he's not doing too badly either.  http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

Great!  I mentioned Al Taylor earlier, but Jeff has some GREAT interviews with another expert - William Buhlman -  that is just as fascinating as the ones with Al Taylor.  Anyway, here's where to go:  http://events.yahoo.com/shows/endoftheline/99archives.html

After that, click on the following dates:  Sep 8th, May 3rd, Mar 3rd, and Jan 11th.

Happy Listening!!!

Hi mombat, I use to have lots of flying dreams when I was younger (I'm in my 40's now) and asked the same thing.  About 4 years ago I heard someone comment that flying dreams were astral projections.  In fact I heard this from Albert Taylor, himself a respected writer on Astral Projection.

If you're interested I can send you a link for listening to him on the Jeff Rense program.

What you're talking about is taken right out of Taoist Chi-Kung practices. Connecting the tongue allows the energy to circulate freely throughout the body, in particular the front and back of the torso. This is called the Microcosmic Orbit, and is good for balancing the body's energy, as well as grounding it.
