Thanks for your explanation Rodentmouse.  Your description of how to do it sounds very intriguing and I'll give it a try.  The area in the brain that you are referring to may be what they call the Amygdala. I'm not too familiar with the technique by bringing your awareness to it is supposed to stimulate ESP and other psichic faculties. The idea of placing your awareness on the bridge of your nose and allowing it to proceed on its own up thru your Brow Chakra and into the center of the brain to a specific location is very interesting.  Allowing this to occur would probably be a lot more accurate than if we try to guess where in our brain to focus our awareness.  Thanks for the tip.

To answer your question as to if you can project while your body is still awake, the answer is no. However, it is technicaly possible, but is very rare.  Some people can meditate on an object and reach a deep trance state and project their astral body into that object while their physical body is still sitting there supposedly still appearing to be awake but it is actually asleep.  So, the answer is still no, but visualizing your astral body separating from your physical body can be very productive. As for the vibration question, everything and everyone vibrates at certain frequency levels on the physical plane and at the higher planes and dimensions the vibration levels are higher and they are able to see/sense beings that are not visible to us at our vibrational levels.  It is difficult for me to explain in any great detail but you may want to check the Search engine on this site for previous posts regarding vibrational levels. Keep up the good work and keep experimenting!

I am curious Rodentmouse.  I am familiar with Roberts Mobile awareness techniques.  You mentioned focusing on a small part of the brain - what part were you focusing on?  I agree that all the sounds relavent to AP can be distracting.  I find that the best way to deal with them is to just act like you are bored with them and let them pass on thru your consciousness without dwelling on them or even acknowledging them.

It seems that most people have problems with these random thoughts and music loops where there is a constant repetition.  Sometimes I feel that making daily awareness training a pre-requisite for AP would be beneficial for all prospective projectors.  During the day we are constantly being bombarded with so many sounds and images that it is difficult to just shut them all out on demand when it is time to AP. Your mind needs to start getting used to shutting a lot of this stuff off during the day and forming the habit of doing so will enable you to quiet your mind when you practice.  Most people try to project at bedtime and that is when ones mind is still pretty much still flooded with all the thoughts and imagery from the day.  Try drinking a little water before bedtime and then when you go to bed just go to sleep and after you wake up for your bathroom visit go back to bed and try to AP then when you are more relaxed and your mind is quieter.

The answer to your question is YES!  If you have fully read and have an understanding of "Astral Dynamics" by R. Bruce then you have an outstanding foundation for applying its medthodology. A good beginning for you might be to go back over the book and try to do some relaxed meditating and achieve full trance state.  From there you may have more success in reaching the sensations that are symptomatic to that state and also for AP preparations.  I do a lot of meditating and spend most of it in the full trance state and then at night when I try to project, it's like Pavlov's Dogs, once I lay down on my back my body just seems to know that it is time to project and after practicing several times every night, it doesn't even need for me to go thru the relaxation  part, it just starts vibrating.  Also does it during the day when I'm meditating.  So, your body can become conditioned to this AP practice. I am fortunate that I am retired and can spend lots of time practicing.  I don't even try to AP when I first go to bed.  I just drink a glass of water at bedtime and find that I will need to make 2 or 3 bathroom visits during the wee hours of the morning and when I return to bed my mind is quiet and my body is still fully relaxed.  Just be serious about all of this and BELIEVE BELIEVE that it is indeed possible to project and it will happen.  Try to AP every night and even during the day if you can find the time because you just never know when it will happen and once it does you will never have to ask this question again. Don't take our word for it, this is something that you can and must prove to yourself thru experiencing it first hand. Stay with it and good luck.

Hi Jeff, what a terrific idea!  What you just mentioned about focusing on a sound never crossed my mind but it makes perfect sense as, like you said, it is a non-physical item.  I'll give it a spin the nex few nights and see if I can obtain the same results.  It's the participation of knowledgeable people like you that make scanning these forums really worthwhile and I appreciate your input even though it was directed to someone else.  I'm getting it done with the projections but they are scattered and sometimes repeating the same successful sequence does not always work the next time.  My goal is to project on a regular basis and I find that awareness during my waking hours focusing only on my breath pretty much clears my mind of random thoughts and it kind of spills over into the dream state because I get more than my share of lucid ones.  Thanks again Jeff.

Good work!!  I agree with Jeff, it sounds to me that you did project. The paralysis indicates that your physical body was indeed asleep and that your astral body was in transition and when you slid off the bed you were definitely out.  All you had to do at that point was to get the heck away from your physical body by flying or whatever quick way you could think to escape the immediate area before your  physical body could pull you back in which evidently happened that time.  Each time you'll get better at it. Your fear of projecting may still be trying to hold you back but since you faced up to it and won last time, you certainly won't allow it to influence you again. Just remember that your Astral body travels to the Astral everynight when you dream and it always comes back.  Take care, and good luck with the next ones.

What kind of "Astral" experiences are you having that have gotten you so scared?  Are they sounds, images, etc.?  Most of these distractions can be scary if you aren't really concentrating on the practice and have a clear mind.  You might indeed find meditation of great value as it will assist you in maintaining a clear mind. It won't be easy, but with practice. you will find yourself in a stronger position when it comes to projecting. Most people have a problem with focusing on one thing for a long time, their thoughts are scattered, and they allow their subconscious egos to rule them while their true consciousness stands in the background and is ignored.  If you practice staying awake and aware and focused on each task during the day then your mind will be better organized and equiped to clear away a lot of these endless thought patterns and negative habits.  The practice can bring on lots of sounds and often dream imagery so you must stay focused on your visualization or mantra or whatever focus point you are using. Hang in there and work this thru with regular practice and once you experience your first projection these fears will disolve.  Take care and good luck.

Not being able to see is a fairly common condition experienced by new projectors on their first couple of exits.  I understand that this problem is largely due to a lack of energy flowing into the projected double. Much of this information is explained in Robert Bruce's book Astral Dynamics which is a terrific read.  You might try just asking for your sight as many times this will work.. Good luck.
