Someone pointed out that the link to the zip of the timer on the saltcube page was out of date, so I'ved updated it. The correct version is now 2.4. If example 2 worked for you and you have 2.4 it should work.

but since when did the mind fall asleep? I thought the only way to let your mind rest was through 'meditation', 'blanking' or silencing of the thoughts....??

When you dream your mind falls 'asleep' in the sense that you lose conscious awareness of your waking life. The goal of this method an most of the other projection methods is to put your body to sleep while maintaining awareness of your waking personality.

I'm not sure how to fix this because I'm using XP IE6 SP2 also and the timer page uses exactly the same code as in example 2. Could you check to see if the timer page you have says "Version 2.3" at the top, maybe it's a cache issue?

It's a pretty awesome thing to prove to yourself that we really can exit our bodies! Congratulations AntiGravity!! [8D]

Can you tell me if "Example 2" on this page works for you?

http://www.javascripter.net/faq/sound/play.htm

Also, what operating system and web browser are you using?

Someone else reported a similar problem and I fixed it on my forum but forgot to re-upload it to astral pulse.

The fixed version is here:
http://www.saltcube.com/timer.html

Please let me know if the new version works for you.

Hi Bogata and catmeow,
I'm really glad that we have this forum where we can help each other figure out how to do these things. I really enjoy reading people's reports of how things are going and ideas people have for improving the methods!

I think dreams, lucid dreams, OBEs and astral projections are all the same things at different levels awareness. I think there's a strong spiritual aspect to them but I haven't really been able to completely verify that for myself.

I think you would have good success using the method Alpha Omega posted above where you fall asleep with your arm raised. Once you do that once or twice it should be a lot easier to watch your body fall asleep while you stay awake.

10 minutes is probably too soon to try gravity press, you pretty much have to have passed through the vibrational state in order for it to work.

You probably had such good success the first time because you weren't really trying very hard. While methods like rhythm napping take a lot of steps to do, this one is best done by just forgetting about things and waiting for your body to do its thing.

It may help for you to daydream about something rather than doing a mind blank since that would keep your mind active and give you something to focus into once you're ready to separate out.

Good, if you're able to fall asleep each time then you've got the hardest part solved. Basically what you're trying to do is watch the process of falling asleep as in http://www.saltcube.com/?t=watch-fall-asleep

You should be able to have a brand new OBE every time it beeps, it goes like this:

1.) Set the alarm and fall asleep
2.) Timer beeps, you become aware of what's going on, and 'wake up' without moving
3.) Your body may still be asleep in which case you won't feel it fall asleep again.
3.) You will probably have some sort of imagery going on or be able to recall the imagery you had from the last dream. Watch for it, it should become realistic over the course of 5 to 30 seconds.
4.) Phase into the imagery by imagining pressure so you ooze out into it.

Steps 3-4 take place in less than a minute, the beep should be just enough to make you aware but keep you still dreaming somewhat. You than dip back into it and have an OBE over and over.

Regarding a book, thanks very much; I hope there is enough interest that I can write one!

Wow, you saw a portal of vibrations? What Monroe says to do in a case like that is to send the vibes up and down your body and pulse them until they smooth out. Once the vibes have calmed down you've tuned to the right frequency and can get up out of your body.

I've tried exiting while I still had strong vibes and it never works. You've got to be phased in to just the right range and you can tell how close you are to the correct frequency by how strong the vibes are.

Did you see any imagery in the portal, such as people or a scene inside it? Probably if you watch the imagery you get from the portal and make it so it all looks clear to you, you can home in on the right frequency faster and then exit your body.

AlphaOmega,
You're correct about that method, it is very powerful. I don't usually use it because I have a hard time falling asleep in any position but laying on my stomach or side. I'm training myself to not have to do that and so I hope to be able to start using that technique because it is very powerful.

Hi catmeow,
That's great to hear! You definitely hit it on the nose. That's interesting about being able to fix your sight problem by changing your physical body's position, I'll have to experiment with that. Here's a trick you can use to improve your eyesight without having to wake up first:

http://www.saltcube.com/?t=eye-pry

Well, in a sense the book is already out! I put up what I have so far at cafepress here:

http://www.cafepress.com/saltcube

But the final version will probably not be ready for a couple months.

Bogata,
You were in the 'Exiting' stage on these charts:

http://www.saltcube.com/?t=how-close

At that stage if you use an exit technique like RB's Rope method or Gravity Press ( http://www.saltcube.com/?t=gravity-press ) you'll leave your body.

The rushing sounds are because you're sort of in between radio stations so to speak and you're getting random information. Did you feel any vibrations?

One thing that seems to help is doing NEW on your face for a few days leading up to your attempt. It also helps a whole lot to make sure that you have had pleny of sun in for about a week leading up to it.

I have some more sun related info at www.saltcube.com/?t=sun

Were you able to fall asleep during the longer intervals, like the 15 to 25 minute ones?

Hi Laggy, to be honest my main hope in posting all this is that if I post what I think I know about stuff then people will point out things that are wrong and I will eventually find out how things really work.

For me the coldness is all over my body and seems to be because relaxation has made my heartrate drop. If I use an extra blanket then it's not much of a problem. I've never had coldness localized to a specific area like you describe, except maybe in my feet to a degree.

I can only speculate what the coldness you have is from, in his psychic defense book RB talks about finding cold spots where negs hang out. I really have no idea if that applies to your case, in fact I'm not totally sold on the idea that negs exist at all but I'm also not convinced they don't exist.

I would like to hear other people's opinion on this because I don't have a lot of experience with localized coldness.
#89
It's possible, I really don't know for sure. However I have a feeling there are a lot of possible paths we can take when we fall asleep so while it's likely you've been in that state before as you describe, it's also possible that we can fall asleep without going through the feeling gigantic phase.
#90
I think the purpose of the control panel is whatever you make of it, it's like a programmable computer. In my OBEs I've only used it to teleport places but I would think you could make it do pretty much anything else. I haven't been able to experiment with it enough to really be able to list all the uses.
#91
If you've got clear imagery you can 'push' yourself into it, that's called phasing. The levels of imagery go from being vauge, to being clear, to being both clear and animated:

http://www.saltcube.com/out-of-body/chat-forum/viewTopic.jsp?t=watching-impressions&x=24

If you've got animated imagery you're ready to press yourself into it. I call this phasing pressure. You kind of push yourself out from the middle of your head and chest and ooze into the imagery.

It sounds like you're super close, you're as close as you can be without actually doing it.

(p.s. please use more punctuation! :))

Here's a link to the triangle method:

http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6762

There may be a trick to avoiding tensing up but I don't know it. As far as I know it's really a matter of doing it so many times that it doesn't make you tense up. You could also try finding something else to focus on so that it's easier to ignore all the sensations, for instance counting breaths.

I hope the timer methods help your borderline sleep attempts! I'm always interested in finding out what does and doesn't work for people so if you find tweaks that make things work better for you please post back!

I have a similar thing that happens, a lot of times I'll separate out my limbs but my torso and head are rubberbanded to my body.

I'm not entirely sure what to do to get past that. I think it's a matter of having too much focus in those parts of the body.

I've done some practice holding my focus completely on the inside of my head, about where the pineal is. It seems like after a day or two of doing that a lot yout body starts to feel like a physical thing that you're inside. Ever have that? It's somewhat strange but I haven't really connected to a way to make it so I can use that to completely separate.
#94
You're starting to shift your focus from the physical to the astral if you get really clear heart chakra sensations like that, so you're probably into the 'nearly exited' spot.

You may be able to exit by focusing completely on your heart chakra, it would be the same type of exit as using Birm's triangle method except you're focused on your heart rather than a triangle.

That's very interesting how serotonin is converted into DMT. Here's a pretty good article on DMT's relationship to serotonin:
http://www.heartoftheinitiate.com/articles_gaia.htm

I also wrote a post here about how to increase your serotonin levels and how its relates to melatonin:

Yeah that sounds like you were close. It might help to keep better track of the meditations you do in a journal. I'm making an online one that people can use here:

http://www.saltcube.com/out-of-body/chat-forum/lucid-dream-journal.jsp

I'm setting it up so that people will be able to make a chart of their progress and see what works for them and what doesn't. I just went back through my old data and found that I have the best luck getting up a 5:30, staying up until 7:00, then using rhythm napping with the intervals set to 20, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and try to exit when the alarm goes off.

I'll be making the scripts to do the charts pretty soon so the more sooner you put data in the more you'll have and the clearer things will be.
#97
Good! What sensations are you getting?
#98
Usually the way it works for me is I get imagery which becomes progressively more and more vivid until I can either step into the imagery or I shift my focus back to my body and gravity-press myself out.

Here is a page I've started on that: http://www.saltcube.com/out-of-body/chat-forum/viewTopic.jsp?t=watching-impressions&x=1256

I'm not done writing about how I actually use the images to exit the body but it's mostly like how I describe above.

I would also make everybody buy a dog thong. Just because.

I would tell them to start thinking for themselves and stop hoping that someone on TV or a politician or some religious superbeing is going to fix their problems for them!
