I may have to give this a try if something don't happen soon.  I am currently in a slump as well.  I was popping an average of 1 a week for awhile and now asquickly as they came, they disappeared!

Svetty,

Congratulations and welcome.  I have learned a lot in the short time that I have been here.

I have OBE'd from lying on both sides.  This usually starts out as a failed attempt by falling asleep while lying on my back. When I wake up I roll over onto my side and start feeling sensations.

Hi All,

I OBE'd the first time by accident.  I haven't tried real hard since.  I think that it happens naturally. You have to grab it as it happens. You have to learn to be somewhere in between "trying to focus" and "trying not to focus" on something. I just wait around if I can stay awake.  I think we have to let it happen instead of chase it.  It can be very hard for some people to just let go and not try to control or guide something.  Just my admittedly rookie opinion of course.

I OBE at night after I go to bed.  If I try to do it in the morning after I wake up, my mind is full force with constant chatter. I've discovered it is easier for me to keep myself awake at night until I get the sensations than trying to calm the mind chatter in the morning.

Hi All,

Keeping a dream journal is very important in recording how you feel about something as well as seeing it.  I often write "I percieve" or "I feel that" when I'm writing.  In image will often cause an emotion in me and I wind up writing a lengthy description of how I feel about it.

rantboi,
No disagreement here.  It sounds to me like you nailed it.  Congratulations!  The reason that you may not have felt vibrations is that you were dreaming first.  In one of my OBEs, I was dreaming and this little creature that was common in my OBEs walked by. I recognized him and everything changed. I actually exited my body with no sensations.  Interestingly enough, I had one other OBE that generated from a dream and there were vibrations.  Go figure!

Louiscy,

I almost always hear a loud bang before exit.  Now when I hear it, I recognize it as a sign that I'm about to OBE.  To me, this is a natural part of it.

From one newby to another,

Welcome

I actually wasn't looking to OBE. I kind of tripped over it by finding an online book and reading it. The next thing I know, I had an OBE.  I spent several days questioning a lot of things. I don't think I was quite ready for the transformation from "conservative non-believer" to "Astral Traveler". I OBE now because I realized that I have missed so much by being so closed minded that I have a lot of catching up to do.  I am still fascinated by the experience. I haven't tried to attempt much yet.

Leyla,

Sorry it took so long to get back to this but "real life" took over and I got busy. Hypnogogic imagery occurs when you close your eyes and relax.  The best way I can describe it is that you are sort of watching the back of your eyelids and not trying to imagine anything.  As you relax more deeply, images start to appear briefly.  Mine start out as spots that change colors the more relaxed I get.  Soon, I start seeing brief, very vivid images of faces that appear in front of the background of colors.  If I can stay relaxed long enough and not go to sleep, I soon start getting vibrations. The Imagery alone is fascinationg to me even when I don't make it to the vibration stage.  They are so clear and vivid.  I was wondering if the color stages that you were meditating through might be related to the changing colors that I see in the imagery.

Sorry for the lengthy post

Leyla,

I sometimes see some of the colors that you mentioned appearing and changing as I am going through seeing hypnogogic imagery.  They are almost like a colored background but not exactly.  Have you ever seen the colors in this way?

Thanks,

Futureset,

I think you may be very close to OBEing for 2 reasons. Before I start to OBE, I have very heavy hypnogogic imagery consisting of mostly faces.  Next I see out of my closed eyelids like I am looking at my body from a chin against the chest perspective as I'm usually lying on my back.  Shortly there after I get the sensations of fear and vibrations and I hear a loud bang and I get out of my body.  If by chance I happen to doze off before OBEing, I don't worry too much.  When I wake up I stay still for a few seconds and see if I have any sensations.  If so, I roll over on my side and it sets the sensations in motion.  I have OBE'd from lying on my back as well as both sides. I don't know why, but this may have been what happened when you rolled over.

Hang in there.  If you haven't OBE'd yet, it sounds to me like you are getting very close.

MajorTom,

I was never really afraid of him.  When I had my first OBE, I went through the fear during exit thing.  After that, I'm not afraid of anything. [:D] In that first OBE I was standing in the bedroom, and he jumped on my wife who was lying in bed.  I just grabbed him and wadded him up like a dirty shirt and threw him away. In another OBE, I was dreaming and saw him.  I became immediately aware that it was an OBE.  I believe the part in Astral Dynamics that we sometimes miss the exit. I kind of miss the little fellow.  I may try to find him in my next OBE.

Congrats!

They say the first one is the hardest.  It looks like all of the hard work has paid off for you.

Wow!

Great site! There sure are some strange techniques to getting out of body.  I may have to try a couple of new ones.  I am currently in a 28 day slump!  Also, I like the warning..."use common sense, as you would with a regular roller coaster ride."  That's funny!
