Thank you Kiauma.

The reason I have been a bit (read a lot) concerned lately is over symbols.  The object I purchased was a symbol and I was surprised to feel power from it.  I think I am on a learning curve here, my subconscious (or higher self?) obviously is trying to teach me something, but my conscious, logical mind wants answers! In words!  I am slowly learning that is not how I'm going to get them!  Ah... baby steps... [:)]

Not me, at least not that I remember [;)]

Something similar happened to me a while back.  I was being chased down a road by a man, running for dear life, then suddenly thought "I wonder if I can fly out of this?"  I flew/jumped over some gardens & glided gently before landing softly flat on my face.  That was when I realized I was either in an LD or AP.  Then I woke up before I could take it further [:(]
#79
hmm... I was given an Enya CD ages ago & never bothered to play it; it's up in the loft somewhere.  I think I'd better look for it!
#80
Michael_E, that's exactly what I meant! It's as if you never had a sense of taste before; things that normally taste very good to you in real life taste like ricepaper by comparison.

My point was, it didn't become a lucid dream until I tasted these things.  The realization I was dreaming came about purely because I knew things never taste this good in real life.  Before anyone suggests my sense of taste is affected by being a smoker (which I won't deny, filthy habit!), I have to tell you even the cigarette tasted really good!

It's a shame I wasted the opportunity to OBE/AP from here, but I was so amazed it didn't seem to matter.

It could be a personal signal to me for the future though, which would enable me to OBE at this point.

Major Tom,

I would NEVER call you a fool [:)] Your posts have been very wise and informative, thought-provoking and well-written.  Some of it goes a little over my head but I get the general gist of it.  But I know you know what I meant [;)]

stephen~,

hehe, I've never had a "free ride" either! Nothing wrong with wishful thinking though!

Wow! Thanks Major Tom, this has helped me a lot.  Now I know I'm on the right track.  Although I don't listen to brainwave generators I now know I am able to reach Focus 10 consistently; the problem is "switching off" from left brain activity.  The thoughts keep coming and trying to stop them is no good as this is also thinking!  I have yet to learn to "go with the flow" and let go, which is not easy.
quote:

Focus 10 is where you have retreated from the physical about 85 to 90%. You still have an awareness that somewhere "back there" is a physical body. You are aware that you have one, but aren't really interested in it, and receiving next to no input from its physical senses. Your mind is awake and alert, but your focal point of consciousness is contained in what feels like a black 2-dimensional compartment somewhere about the center of your head
-Frank, The Astral pulse

I have read a few of Frank's posts from the archives and was interested to see you also included this quote.  I have found when I focus on this spot in my head it produces a sensation both physical and non-physical; it produces a kind of joyous sensation, I can feel my physical awareness diminishing, my entire body relaxing, and from this state have seen the snapshots you describe, as well as images (or videos/DVDs) of floating around my room with complete clarity, but as soon as I realize what's happening (that left brain thingy again!) I'm back to being aware of lying in bed.  It is becoming easier to passively watch these the more I practice and their duration is becoming longer.
quote:

"An auditory perception may manifest as verbal messages, voices, or impressions of voices. It may also occur as sounds such as static, buzzing, pops and clicks, tones, or even music. These perception have a delicacy, a quality difficult to convey in physical, waking consciousness."

These get me every time!  I used to get them as a child and was able to listen to them passively for ages.  I occasionally get them now, but every time they snap my awareness back and my attention is firmly back in the physical.

Your article has given me renewed faith.  It is only human to want to run before you can walk, but you are right; practice is the key.  Practice to the stage where you can get these sensations so consistently you become bored with them.  I have a feeling this is the way your higher self protects you, making sure you are ready to cope before allowing you to take the next step.  In this respect your avatar is really apt - The Fool's higher self prevents him from taking the leap over the cliff until he is fully equipped for the challenge.

Many thanks [:)]

No. I know people who have had surgery and have still been able to AP regularly.  I do think surgery can cause blockages that might have some effect on OBEs but I believe practicing raising your energy can clear these blockages.  I had surgery several times and since practicing NEW I can feel these clearing and feel closer every day.  Try focusing some energy in the area of your appendix to help the healing process and heal your energy body if you think it may be affected.  Good luck!

If she is interested in AP it could lead to wonderful things for the two of you [:)]  I had heard it was possible for someone to pull you out but it's lovely to have someone confirm it.

Did she remember anything about it?

Pyrodap,

quote:

I've read about people who are asleep, and an ethereal being grabs them and brings them out of the body. Has anyone ever experienced this... forced OOBE?

I had that once a few months ago, I was asking for help to get out of body & felt hands pulling on my face.  I felt fine about it as this is what I wanted, unfortunately I didn't come out of my body.  I heard a voice loud in my ear saying "You're really close now!" but this had the effect of disturbing my concentration. [:(]
I did have a vision as well, where I was given items for my protection. [:D]
quote:

On that note, is it possible for somebody to project, go to another person who is sleeping, and pull that person into a oobe?

Someone told me this is possible a few years ago, but I haven't got direct experience of it. Maybe it is [:)]

Selski,

What a great post!  Short, sweet, and to the point, and what a wealth of information you managed to get everyone to post.  I must learn how to write shorter posts!

Everyone who replied to Selski,

Thanks, very informative for me also.

When I said it had been investigated & found to be fake, that is also what I read.  You can't believe everything you read or hear, either the book or the people who say it's fake!  You have to read the book & make your own mind up!  It's a good read, whether it's fake or not.  Like most things, they're a mixture of truth & fiction.  Read, but don't take everything as "gospel".  Blind belief is perhaps more dangerous than complete ignorance.  You have to find your own truths. [:)]

That was lovely! Reminds me of when I saw a face in the clouds, this was also a white male but with a short beard, but I don't think mine was God, perhaps my guide/master but who knows? This was something that happened to me whilst meditating - it's interesting you had to look up about 45 degrees to get to this state; when this happened to me I was looking up from sitting on the ground to the top of a tree at a 45 degree angle.  Perhaps it's meditating whilst focusing on something in the same line of sight as the 3rd eye that pushes the meditation into deeper states. It's something I'd been pondering while walking the dogs earlier, then I came home and lo and behold, I come across your post!
Wonderful insight.
Btw, what does Dewey Decimal No 133.43 actually mean (other than studying)?
#91
There is a book called "The Bible Code" which was very interesting but it had since been investigated and labelled as fake, so the answer is not to believe everything you read, you have to make your own judgements from your own experiences.

This worked for me:

Try pushing energy (read NEW, available as free download from forums) across cheekbones, eyebrows, lower jaw, from upper lip up nose towards hairline, down ears & down nasal passage (pushing energy all the way till you feel it going down over shoulders, down side of body down to feet then up again). Push this energy backwards & forwards until you feel no more resistance.  Bingo! Face relaxed!

Cube,
quote:

Did you get the wave of heaviness come over you 3 times?

Yes, a wave of heaviness, or sinking feeling, 3 times. I suppose my body fell asleep then woke up 3 times?

quote:

Not necessarily, it's a lot better to stop and examine what happened and then try to figure out a way to get back there consistently than it is to go charging off in a projection each time [:)].

Can you tell us more about exactly what you did you get to that state and if you saw or heard anything other than the flash? Did you feel any vibes?

I ignored body being uncomfortable (thanks for that tip, it was a real stumbling block!), just lay there, focussed on 3rd eye & crown.
I have felt my body fall asleep on several occasions.  About the vibes, I don't think so, just felt my body fizzing with energy.  The only time I have felt strong vibes was when I did a visualization of magnetic lines of force above crown; I must have entered a lucid dream where I was floating towards the lines of force, then grabbed hold of them. It was like an electric shock, it woke me up so violently my eyes shot open & I sat up in bed LOL! [:O]
I did have hypnogogic images but as usual they went & I couldn't hold them.  One was interesting though, I tried to imagine myself above my face looking down on myself and LOL I saw someone completely different!  Tried to focus on her but couldn't hold the picture.

I have a theory that I have been experimenting with, but being as I have not consciously exited as yet, maybe you'd like to try it out & let me know if I'm on the right track?:

If you follow energy up the spinal cord to a place in the middle of your head, the easiest way to explain it is draw a line down from the crown, a line back from your 3rd eye, this should be roughly where the lines cross.  Once you hit this spot you will feel it, a bit like when you hit a tennis ball there is a "sweet spot" in the racket where the ball seems to go without any effort - I think of this as my "sweet spot"!  Well I imagine myself standing on this spot, then imagine myself looking up to see a golden sphere gently vibrating.  I try pulling this into this spot in my head & feel the energy fizzing in me quicker.  I then look up again & see another golden sphere vibrating quicker than the last & do the same.  I continue doing this.  Sometimes I do it looking up to the crown, sometimes looking out to the 3rd eye, sometimes (when I'm feeling ambitious) I try both simultaneously.  This is what I did to get to this stage and it seems to work for me, at least it's got me far further than the rope; I feel so close now!

Blackbox,
quote:

Seven, I've been having the camera-flash from my third-eye also. Your current description of your progress sounds like where I am at. Except I haven't been putting effort into the exit as of late. I've basically just turned my every-night to brushing-techniques (my lazy version of N.E.W.), but with cube getting me excited with this thread, I'll start reapplying some will-power.

This is the first time I had the camera flash whilst body asleep & eyes closed, it went off like a very big camera flash on a dark background.  However, I have often experienced a small camera flash in 3rd eye while awake, either when lying down to begin relaxing or in certain "more aware" states in my normal day-to-day life.

I have been using NEW for just over a week now and I can tell you that it has helped me rediscover my energy which I lost when I was around 15, just over 20 years ago!  It used to come naturally but I guess I got blockages due to certain injuries, both physical and emotional.  Since then I have suffered depression, self-harming, abuse of alcohol & experimenting with drugs.  I now realize all that was an attempt to get the feeling back that I used to have naturally.
The thing is, I never knew what I had at the time, I just saw it as an ability to make certain parts of my body respond.  There just wasn't the information out there then; libraries didn't have anything on the subject and there was no internet!  Since doing NEW I have rediscovered my energy, now I just have to apply focus which is the hard bit!  I will be posting a new thread on NEW/Energy soon.
Try experimenting with NEW.  For example, if you have problems relaxing your face (as I did), try pushing energy across your cheekbones, lower jaw, eyebrows etc.  Also down ears & nose & trace the energy all the way.  This has cleared a lot of blockages for me.
My depression has lifted, the self-harming seems to be going away, at least for now, and I am getting closer to the way I used to be.  The only downer is I have lost my appetite to an extent and I can't really afford to lose weight as I was slightly underweight to start with!
I found that putting some effort into the energy work for about 3 days was all I needed, it comes automatically once your body learns what to do - a bit like riding a bike or driving a car, once you have learnt it it comes naturally.  You will probably find, like me, that you can be doing something else & suddenly you realize that you can feel yourself drawing energy even when you haven't been consciously doing it.

I forgot to say that when I felt my body fall asleep I also noticed I was in REM as my eyes were darting about all over the place.  Could I have separated but left my consciousness behind in the physical?  I know I was trying to observe my body fall asleep, which I did. Is this possible?  If so, how do I get out?  So far I have not been able to consciously exit, only from LD and once partly from meditation (but was still in physical).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a problem with swallowing! [;)]
I tried ignoring the swallowing urge earlier and I found that it got to the stage where my throat would just contract/convulse on its own, so I'm pleased to hear that the swallowing shouldn't be a problem. I always have a drink of water before I lie down; relaxing my neck properly has been a problem as ever since I went to the osteopath to sort my back out, my neck's been out of alignment ever since.
Upstream, I think you are correct as I once had a kind of OBE, or at least astral vision, while walking around in my physical body (I posted on this somewhere) so I think the trick must be proper focus.
Earlier I lay down, ignored the urge to move (had to swallow though), felt my body falling asleep 3 times, had something like a camera flash go off in my 3rd eye, felt energy rushing all through my body, but nothing happened.  When I tried to move I was still in the physical.  Should I have tried a technique (never had any results from climbing rope) or waited longer?  I was hoping to just exit naturally.  Maybe it was because my boyfriend was in the room?  I can say though that when I got up I felt completely energised and awake.

Yes you are doing it right! If you read NEW you will see that Robert Monroe describes this as Tactile Imaging, and it is a technique for people that are not sure if they can visualise properly.  If you can feel the energy moving through you then you are in fact visualising it, in other words focusing on a body part.  Well done!  Feels good, doesn't it? [:D]

I've managed to ignore the urge to itch, am now practicing ignoring the urge to move, BUT... I get an overwhelming urge to swallow which I try to ignore but the longer I leave it the more I feel I am going to choke! Any suggestions?

Ah, now I understand what phasing is! I've not read Astral Dynamics yet so have only a basic understanding of focus 10, 12, etc from reading the posts in various threads.

As Adrian said it is similar to meditation, and after reading a few other posts on this subject, I believe this may be what I experienced a while ago.  If this is correct, then I didn't get very far but it was an uplifting experience all the same:

I had been meditating in front of a tree, cross-legged on a warm summer night.  I had my 2 dogs with me but there was no-one around so I felt peaceful and comfortable in that I didn't have any external distractions other than the dogs, and being that I knew I didn't have to keep an eye on them in case of other dogs I was able to meditate as such.  What I was doing was looking at the auras of the trees, particularly the one I was sitting in front of, in the park and became engrossed to the extent the sky seemed to turn a pinkish shade.  I remember thinking how beautiful it was.  Although I was aware of my physical self I was de-sensitized to it, by which I mean I was not distracted by aches, stiffness, etc, which generally happens when I stay in one position for too long (I think I probably moved several times but still maintained my focus).  I started wondering how old this particular tree was (it was a large oak and I thought it must have been around 2-300 years old), and how many little boys had climbed it.  Then I got to wondering whether the trees "spoke" to eachother, if they communicated at all and if so, how?  At this point I heard a crack of thunder but as this was a natural sound (summer storms) I took no notice, though it occurred to me in a distracted sort of way that it was strange there was no lightning and there was no rain.  At this point I saw a boy in the tree, just for a split-second.  I took no real notice as this could have been my imagination (wishful thinking I told myself!).  However, then I could see small dark shapes flitting between the trees, the ground, all over the place! (I had not until fairly recently read about a plane of forces, apparently energy forms).  This was wonderful and I remember thinking "Wow! So trees/plants etc DO talk to eachother and this is how they do it!"  Then to my amazement I saw a man walking towards me.  He turned his head and smiled at me, but unfortunately, as I turned towards him (physically) he disappeared, probably because I had inadvertantly brought my vibrations back down a notch.  The interesting thing is shortly afterwards I got up and walked around the park a little with the dogs, but I was still seeing these thoughts/energy forms all around me, at one stage even seeing something darker, like a vivid black, shoot from my feet straight along the ground and then disappear into the ground (I thought later this may have been a part of my own negative energy leaving me).  As I was leaving the park I looked at the sky and saw a face form in the clouds.  When I left the park and started walking along the road, I no longer saw anything.

I hope this post has been appropriate here; any comments are appreciated, I am still basically a newbie!

Very interesting topic...
I have just read NEW and while bringing energy up through my legs noticed a cold or numb area on my right shin (outer shin towards front shin).  I have had circulation problems in my feet, mainly the right foot, for a while too.

Guess what? I have a mole in that area which I've had since age about 5, have also suffered from depression for many years though this is not as bad as it was.  A couple of years ago I got an insect bite on my left shin, the site of the bite being almost exactly a mirror image of the mole (ie outer left shin) which never went down and sometimes still itches.

It came to me that the mole could be the cause of these problems the other day so I was pleased to find this thread.

So I will definitely be drawing a circle with a + inside on both the mole and the old insect bite.

I have smoked it reguarly (far too regularly) from the age of 16 - I am now in my late 30s.  I have cut right down to the extent where I no longer smoke it during the day, very mildly in the evening, and sometimes not at all, and I don't miss it when I don't have it.

I have to say that my first astral experiences (one was a few years ago whilst meditating/watching auras and suddenly I was in the Astral but also walking around in my physical body at the same time) were with the help of cannabis where I was not stoned, but mildly relaxed to the point where I could connect/ empathise more.

By the same token, now I am working on conscious OBEs I like to have a clear head.  There have been times when I have had a smoke I have felt something start happening and been aware that I could probably project, however, have always stopped myself because of the fear of attracting negs or ending up in lower or sub planes.

I have an open mind on this, but won't try to AP under the influence until I can AP consciously without the use of anything.

A point to think about though is I have used drink/drugs to get me through depression.  Could it be that people who use drugs/drink/ cannabis have holes in their auras because of depression?  If people are happy within themselves they generally have no need to self-medicate as it were, so the holes in the aura could be due to the underlying reasons for taking the drugs in the first place.  Just a thought...
