Quote from: higher_selfMaybe the "astral expose" to our sub-conscious and suppressed fears can tell if someone must talk to a psychologist or face his fears or resolve these thoughts...So maybe dealing with this issue , is for good..
Anyway ! My mom was very love-giving to me when i was 4 so i think I'm OK !  [just kidding]

If I'm honest, speaking to a psychologist to work through repressed emotions/fears would be a good start to astral explorations - that's if people had the money/inclination :)
Astral experiences will generally let us work through these experiences ourselves, or bring to the surface hidden fears which we had no idea about.
Not judging, or classifying these experiences, but looking at them objectively (sometimes this is hard) goes some way to resolving them. It's all a learning experience :).

Quote from: higher_selfWise words !Thanks for that
In particular what i was reading was the "need" topic , about this guy who lost his mind and was speaking about his guardian being a daemon and so on...

All I will say is take what each person experiences as their own experience. They do not reflect on what you yourself might experience.
I think a lot of people underestimate the degree of suggestibility that the astral state imposes on us. That is, negative subconscious thoughts, or repressed fears can become manifest. Not only that, but feeding these thoughts with fear or attention can create thought forms (Seemingly independent beings) which might seem demonic or negative.
I'm not saying all negative beings are self created, but I think a large portion that people have trouble with might be.
It can be a complex area, where we do not always see the undercurrents of situations, but keeping an open mind goes a long way to having positive experiences.

Quote from: higher_selfhello you too , i reading all kinds of topics in here , many helpful ones, but many scary ones too , doubts are rising to my head bout this

The astral (astro mental), by definition is a subjective experience. There are many similarities in the precautions one must take when using mind manifesting drugs like psychedelics and when actively attempting to OBE. By this I mean such activities both manifest the subconscious, and can make us face repressed memories/energies, or subconscious archetypes head on.
Although one should be precautious, always remember that firstly nothing can ever harm you against your will when projecting. Secondly, a positive attitude can make what might be a bad experience into a positive one. Thirdly, bad experiences (bad trips likewise) are just experiences, we learn from them. They are only "bad" because we class them so.
I would say don't rush, if you are not ready for an experience, don't force it upon yourself. Also, keep an open mind, don't believe everything you see, and don't assume or have expectations (these can guide or attempt to guide experiences down avenues they might not want to go – so can cause tension). Even if you have strong personal beliefs, don't be afraid to challenge them or change them based upon new experiences/knowledge.
I've been projecting for a long time and am yet to have a single experience which I would count as "bad". There have been some scary moments, but keeping a level head, and keeping things in perspective have turned them around.

Edit: Regarding not believing everything you see, also don't believe other peoples experiences of the astral as truth, or their views or philosophies. Listen to them, take on board anything which resonates, but find your own answers.

One of the (first and) best books I read on the subject was Astral Doorways - by J.H.Brennan. I'm looking for a copy now, as I lost mine many years ago.

Quote from: SelskiRobert Peterson - "Out of Body Experiences"

One of the first I read - and made me realise I was 'normalish' -

+1 to that. I didn't really get on the net until '98, and Robert Petersons website was one of the first on OBE I found, along with the fantastic, but now closed spiritweb.org.

I would say that projecting is not a spiritual experience in itself, and does not necessarily lead to any spiritual evolution.
One can search for spiritual truths in the astral as one can in the physical, but the act of experiencing either does not lend itself to progress on it's own (or I should say advanced progress over that of experience gained over time).
I would also say the astral could possibly be counter productive to spiritual evolution, if one gets lost in any belief system (be it founded in the astral or physical) it blocks alternative viewpoints. Within the astral energy follows thought, and so beliefs can manifest themselves as (potentially false) truths more easily then in reality – so its possibly easier to get "lost".

What process do you go through to achieve that?

Quote from: rimmeill be honest moving a pinwheel or pen under glass is not easy when close let alone across the room. I have seen video of it being done under glass on psipog or one of its links. The whole point of my first post was that moving physical objects from the astral plane could be possible based on telekinesis and the existence of ghost/spirits which i believe are lost spirits/people on the astral plain. Ill leave the tk debates to the tk forums.

note: moving pin wheels can be subjective, there is a certain amount of faith and disbelief any observer will have, its a personal choice.

I'm not shut off to the possibility of TK, but I have yet to see something which totally convinces me. Many examples on the net are questionable at best – and the inability for any solid evidence of pinwheels moving when separated from the air flow of the hands create deeper scepticism.
I believe there might be cases of undeniable proof out there of paranormal activity, but there are also a lot of fake, false and misguided cases (which harm the area of the paranormal as a whole).

Regarding this issue, although I have read cases of people influencing the astral from the physical – every time I interact with something while OBE, the effect seems subjective, as the physical remains the same (simple things like turning on lights, yet they are not on when I get back in body). I'm not saying this makes such a thing impossible, i've just not had much luck with such things yet

If there was an after effect like normal pins and needles, I would suggest that either a nerve or vein was restricted during the meditation.

Although, re-reading your original post, there is a possibility that the meditation caused the sensations in your very tired feet to increase. Meditation will bring out hundreds of aches, which can seem quite sharp during the meditation, yet were unnoticed during the day. Also, existing aches can become increased as the meditation lowers adrenaline and other body chemical levels.

What I'd suggest is to meditate in the same position on a day where you body is feeling rested (perhaps after waking in the morning might be best for this) and see if it reoccurs. If it does, there's a chance you are somehow pinching a nerve or restricting a vein – if not, then it was an effect of the meditation and tired feet :)

True, but a lot of stuff with pinwheels is actually slight convection currents created by the hands heat, creating an air flow which turns the wheel. I have yet to see a pinwheel turned when it is behind either thick glass with the hands far from it or with the hands extremely far away from the wheel.

I'd be interested if you could video yourself moving something from the astral, perhaps set a camera up filming an upturned glass bowl with a pen inside. And then moving the pen around inside the bowl?

Quote from: StookieI get the tingly feelings also, mostly accompanied with NEW exercises, where you direct them around your body.

When I practiced NEW regularly, I would get those feelings all over my body all of the time. It actually got worrying one night at the cinema as they kept becoming seriously intense.
They only seem to last as long as NEW is practiced though (given some time where they taper off).

I would say from experience that you shouldn't get that form of pins and needles from meditation. When you got up after the meditation, did your legs feel a bit numb? (you know when you normally have pins and needles and then for a little while later its awkward to use the effected area).

I ask this as it might help determine what sort of pins and needles you experienced (it could have been intense energy movement - or a trapped nerve ;) )
#939
Is this the kind of falling alseep which means getting "pins and needles" in the affected area? Or do you mean a loss of sensory perception of that body part?

Hi Carol604,

I'll definately put you in my prayers during this difficult time.

Love and light,

Does the radio sound internal or like it is external and your ears are picking it up?
#942
Have you been putting much OBE practice in? TOo much practice can be bad and lead to a 'distancing from reality'. This can easily be remided by grounding your self.

Quote from: intergalacticI think you are missing the point and I hate sounding like an butt but this is just stupid he doesn't even claim to have these so called supernatural powers. He makes money by tricking people. How long do you think he would have a job if every trick he did was obviously a simple trick! If you practice something your whole life you get good at it! Remember that old saying the hand is quicker then the eye? What do you think that means!

Have you even seen Derren Brown in action? He seems like a full blown psychic - yet all his skills are illusion and self learnt. He regularly states that he does not believe in anything spiritual - yet he does these amazing things.

Quote from: mactombsI think part of the problem with binaural beats is that they don't work the same for every brain, so you can't really have a universal solution.

The watch invention sounds interesting. Relaxation is very important.

Actually, my guess is that if such a device were invented (and I think it has a pretty good chance of happening) I think it will be a computer game, VR. Something like you'd read about in a William Gibson novel (Virtual Light, Neuromancer).

How much do you know about hypnosis? I think what you'd need is a way to entrain all the senses, not just audio or visual, but all of them. Take the focus off the body stimulus and into the brain, and I think you'd have it.

I agree with this, a method of entraining all sences might have a tremendous effect. One possibility is the use of magnetic fields on various parts of the brain whilst in a state of sensory deprivation.

Welcome to Dreams! / I only get lucid in nightmares
November 21, 2005, 11:27:22
Have you practiced any established lucid dream techniques such as reality checking?
I also experience lucidity when having negative dreams - and consciously attempt to escape them.
Using reality checking (along with a dream diary) is a very effective technique.

Something which works for me too is when going to sleep, attempting to visualise intensely. For example, I'll see a scene like a moving hill, or road, and make it as real as possible. I'll next add to this tactile visualisation, making it feel as if my legs and arms are moving. I feel the sensation of weight, and impact as each foot touches the earth.
Sometimes this can lead to a WILD, other times I suddenly become lucid in the night (I'm not sure what the connection is between visualising a lot when falling asleep and becoming lucid in a dream, but it has worked for me quite a lot in the past).

Some people would say use a psi-wheel. If you do, then cover the wheel with a thick glass and keep your hands away from it. The reason for this is that it has been shown the heat off hands can actually move the wheel. The air, heated by convection becomes slightly turbulent around the wheel causing it to turn - which can seem like it is being moved by the mind (when it is not). It's also possible if hands are close to a glass they could slightly warm it (fractionally above the temperature of the rest of the glass) near the hands and cause the same phenomena. Even a fractional increase in heat should be enough to set up so form of air circulation.

The reason I asked if it was centred on any location is that meditation can take away any barriers we have erected (subconsciously) to hide pain. So the uncomfortable feeling can suggest some form of strain or injury in the physical body. Sometimes when I meditate, aches which I didn't notice can almost make me grit my teeth in their sudden intensity.

I would say look into technologies other than binaural beats. Organisations (such as the Monroe Institute) have spent ludicrous amounts of money and large amounts of time (30 years+) researching this area with some of the best technology and facilities money can buy.
So if you travel this route you will more likely than not be treading familiar ground.
Or an addition to binaural beat is the use of light pulses (ala sound and light machines), such a device can be set up to interface with a PC via the parallel port and would need someone with detailed knowledge of electrical engineering, and a programmer to get it to work. It works by keeping the same frequency differential (beat) but transmitting it through the optical nerves – such devices can have a greater effect than audio technology alone – but you run a risk due to some people being susceptible to fits from light stimulation.

There are possibly other technologies which have yet to be discovered which could help a person produce an obe.

I did this this evening :) I'd been reading, felt tired so closed my eyes for a bit, and I was conversing with myself (but not taking much notice) about the book and some other things - but the conversation was quite nonsensical. I distinctly answered myself, and then replied to that etc (rather than a 3rd party answering - although this has happened sometimes).
This can happen frequently to me when i'm in the hynogogic stage before sleep.
I either put it down to the hypnogogic state (that is being semi-aware and semi-caught in a hypnogogic senario), or just my tired mind rambling.
