I think when it comes to people trying to take advantage of others with "spiritual" messages, it is completely relevant to this forum. Not that it's rampant on this forum, but regarding anything unknown, you have to be on your guard. "Watch out! It's Jesus, and he's coming this way!"

I've always figured that if they are there, they are there. I've never really tried meeting a guide or calling one, the few instances I've had I didn't gain anything I didn't already know. I've worked for years on developing and relying on my intuition, and if they are there, they probably communicate to me through that. I trust my intuition more so than other beings. It doesn't steer me wrong.

Good book on thinking and intuition: http://www.amazon.com/Intuitive-Thinking-Spiritual-Path-Anthroposophy/dp/088010385X

I know I've been begging from the start, but could we possibly discuss the content of what I am posting instead of why or whether I should be posting here? :)

That's what I've been trying to figure out. Before I decide to post (or stop posting) in this thread again, could you please summarize what the subject of this thread is? I really don't know. I keep looking for the content and can't find it.

That's an amazing mandala Wi11iam. How did you create it?

While I've heard of having to experience the feelings of others after death, I don't look at it as though there is any atonement needed, but it sets probabilities in choices that are made because of it.

QuoteWhen you ask what actions I am taking, I am raising awareness.

Raising awareness is just talking. You raise money and make TV commercials and youtube speeches and nothing changes. It's politics and propaganda. It reminds me of Pat Robertson. It's your personal politics, with LOVE printed on the top, and you're expecting everyone else to go along with the propaganda. No real action towards any goals. You say others aren't contributing anything worth while, but read back through all your posts here and try to find some content that others can work with. All I basically see is "love". I love that guy in Africa who is starving. He's still hungry.

I personally don't believe in Karma.

I see it as nothing more as just another typical "fear tactic" that people push on other people in an effort to force them to act a certain way.

"Do this, or else this will happen"

That's not what Karma is at all. Maybe in a mainstream misunderstood superstitious pop-culture way.

It's more like this (quick and simplistically): your higher self needs certain things. It creates your ego to be born here. You experience certain things for your higher self. Depending on what is gained or not gained is how other incarnations are born out of the higher self.

If this isn't the case, then I guess each life is just random, no selections, with nothing to bring back.

I yawn and roll on my side and conk out. When I have trouble sleeping I have a visualization that puts me to sleep in no time, every time. I successfully used it last night. TV puts me to sleep too.

QuoteThink about those times when you gotta pass out quick and you can't afford to lose sleep waitin'.

I don't stress it. The way I see it, if I'm not tired, I'm not tired. I'll get up and turn on the xbox or read or something. The worst that can happen is I'll be kinda tired the next day and sleep real good the next night.

The more TMI material that is brought up, the more I'm turned off by TMI. It sounds more and more like a cult in which you are supposed to just accept the teachings and practice as though it's fact. It seems very contrary to what Monroe himself was trying to accomplish. He talked about what he found, but he wanted people to figure out and confirm things on their own. Turn beliefs into knowns, not accept what you're told.

EDIT: Cult was a harsh word to use, I know TMI is not a cult. Sorry.

That was creepy. Just the way I like em. Sort of like this (a favorite of mine):

Countless possibilities. Why not validate on the Astral?

Validating in the astral is not an action either, especially when considering how subjective it can be. The astral is not separate from the physical. When you want something to take place in the physical, you can't rely on the astral alone. You have to work also from the physical. You can tell more about a person's astral abilities by how they handle themselves physically. People who rely on the astral for important matters don't accomplish much physically. A lot of talk, maybe some good stories, but no action or change.

I glanced at this and misread it as "amazing home video" and thought "oh no, they're posting home videos now".
#939
That just looks like more talking on a forum. What actions are taking place? Not what you want to see take place, but are actually doing to make things better now.

Quotesaid to myself, I'm going to stop accepting this &^%$ and do something about it.

So other than typing in an internet forum, what are you doing about it? You haven't proposed anything.

I always enjoy reading your posts, but I'm not really smart enough to fully grasp it, just certain concepts. However, I've been thinking of creating a thread about time being non-linear and finding ways to manipulate life by understanding it (not that I do... yet, just have some ideas). If I'm off base topic-wise, feel free to ignore me. :)

What brought on this idea was when I won a contest a few weeks ago. It wasn't just a random contest, but one where I get to fly across the country to participate in my favorite hobby for 3 days. A trip to the bahamas would be one thing, but for me, due to the subject matter, it's pretty surreal.

On the day I found out about the contest, I immediately thought "oh, this is SOOOOO me, this contest is litterally created for ME!!!". I told other people "don't even bother entering, I already know I'll win and you're just wasting your time" (I was also congratulated later for being psychic). I can't describe it well, and I suppose it's easy to say after I've already won, but I was really feeling it that day, as though it had already happened.

I understand that "the law of attraction" works similarly, but I promise, this was not my intention. I was focused on the hobby, not putting my intentions on winning the contest or anything metaphysical.

So when I found out a few weeks later that I won, I wasn't thinking about the law of attraction, but more about time not being linear, and the reason I was "feeling it" that day was because it has already happened. I went on the trip and had an awesome time and the feelings and everything associated with it reverberated backwards in time to where I am now. (I leave in about 2 weeks).

So now it's got me thinking, how can I use this to my advantage in "future" situations? This trip is kinda my testing ground. If I'm right, then after the trip I will consciously be thinking about sending the "vibes" back in time to win, because I'm thinking that might be what I've already felt. An interaction with a possible future self.

And this may seem silly (it is to me, I don't normally do stuff like this) but I'm even keeping a "future journal". All of my entries I'm writing from about 3 weeks from now. Of course I'm writing it now, but trying to do so from a future perception. Okay, fine, I'm "imagining".

Some of this I got from an article from NPR that skiax posted several months ago. Very simplified, it was about a guy that had several people take a test. Some didn't study at all, some only after the test, some only before, and some before and after. It showed an increase in test scores with the people who tested both before and after, theory being that time isn't linear.

In method, I suppose it has some similarity to the law of attraction, but seems much more realistic in principal (so far). You can apply/test it in a more practical way (if you work it from both sides, past and future).

I could be way off and completely wrong, but I have a practical (and fun) way of trying it now. If you have an event coming up in your life, try it out.

This is all just politics. More boring than church.

There are forms of buddhism that worship buddha(s). And he would be appalled. There are probably more versions of buddism then there is christianity and they also argue with each other.

I visited a buddhist church here in ATL a few times and it was VERY dogmatic. A total turn off.

QuoteIn fact I think you'll find that the historical Buddha took a very agnostic stance.

This is true. The "religion" of buddhism is very present today though. Not that the real-deal doesn't.
#944
There are so many different types of buddhism that I would suppose it depends on who you ask. I would say a modern buddhist is someone who practices the rules/path that are laid out by the religion.

If you asked the buddha he would probably tell you that calling yourself a buddhist doesn't mean anything. It's just a title.

There was one episode where they ran with the question "if God really existed, what properties would God have?" I think that was my favorite one - they really hit it from all sides.

QuoteI get the feeling that the interviews were not conducted with specific episodes in mind, but carried out as a body, and episodes sort of coallesced from assembling related interviews together.

I get that impression too, like they filmed it all for a documentary but split it up into episodes. I've never heard of this guy before, but I really like him.

Interesting thoughts Matt. I enjoyed reading. Don't really have anything to add though.

Welcome to Astral Chat! / Closer to Truth

For the past several weeks, every Thursday morning before work (and right after meditation), this show comes on PBS, and I've been loving it. You don't see stuff like this on TV much. It's called "Closer to Truth - Cosmos. Consciousness. God." It's basically this guy who goes around the world philosophizing with scientists and professors and theologians about... cosmos, consciousness, and god. What I like is that they never postulate any conclusions, but always leave it wide open. He sometimes plays devils advocate with whoever he's interviewing. So much of it is what we debate here. You can watch it online:

Hawking was speaking so generally. I assume he's mostly talking about organized religion. In that manner, he's generally right. The majority are afraid of death, afraid of failure, afraid of being poor, etc. and these fears cause them to not try, not succeed, not have goals (or pitiful goals), join religions, stay in bad jobs, and basically have a crappy/mediocre life until they're facing their fear of death in the face after doing their best to ignore it their whole lives.

Of course, there are those of us with experience who have a much better idea of what exists than Hawking can imagine himself. He has reason to be bitter and not believe in anything else. Just look at him.

If anyone is offended by what he said, that's their hang-up, not his problem. I've been called much worse. This month alone.

I'm not exactly sure what "Zazen" is, but yes, you want to still your mind and focus all of your awareness on your chosen visualization and hold it as long as you can. Every time a thought interrupts it, you're basically starting over. Visualization directly stimulates the brow chakra.
