Teaching reading to people who hate books is like teaching swimming to people who hate water

Reading is like an infectious disease: it is caught not taught.

The person who doesn't read is no better off than the person who can't read.

One thing I think many of us who read this must keep in mind is the warning proponed by many, including Mr. Bruce himself, about sticking to the basics before trying anything extraordinary or radical.  SOmetimes going too far ahead can have detrimental effects....RObert talks about this in NEW...

I also wanted to mention to David ("Cainam") that I think you are fooling yourself if you don't believe in a higher being.  I think if we look around at the organization of the earth, or even at our own physical bodies, and have in a basic understanding of the laws of thermodynamics, etc. one can logically assume that there is an organizer...

If one walks down a beach how long would he have to walk before stumbling upon a fine swiss watch?  Would a fine Swiss watch ever simply organize itself out of the sand with time?  I think not.  Not even in a million yeas, nor a billion years, nor a trillion years... How, then, do trillion cell organisms like us just appear from blue green algae?

The second law of thermodynamics states that all things run down, in other words everything naturally becomes less organized with time.  Nature fights against evolution...even the most die hard darwinian will admit that nothing in evolutionary theory can explain this.  The more physicists and biologists delve into the questions of existence, they find that there must be some organizing force or energy.  Soon they might even come up with a revolutionary theory that involves....don't jump out of your seat!....GOD!  What a revelation!

Hey Tyrone,
Before you enlist to enlighten our minds, could you please introduce yourself formally... What do you fo dor a living?  IN a nutshell, what are your beliefs?  Where are you from?  What ethnicity are you?  Call me crazy orold fashioned, but I like to know my teachers.

I think, and this is just my uninformed opinion, that you may be confusing the dream state/lucid dream state/OBE state etc.  <--and this is still overly simplified.  There are so many different types/levels of experience when it comes to the energy bodies.  First of all, if this were happening to me I would think about why I might be having dreams like this.  Have you been thinking about, watching movies, etc. about serial killers?  Could this dream be viewed metaphorically?  These are the kinds of questions you should ask, in my opinion.

Energy work has completely changed my life.  Unlike cainam_nazier and others, it has made me more of an extrovert.  Although I revel in quiet time, for it allows me the chance to meditate, study and pray...I find that I have more love for others and I have more patience when I endeavour to help others.  I believe that increased energy and knowledge also comes the responsibility to be friendly to others and help them in any way possible.

Energy work is wonderful, but I believe it there is a limit to what it offers by itself, but combined with  the will to love and help there is no limit.

I used to be more of an introvert and kept to myself.  I was also prideful and thought that my experiences made me somehow superior to most people who severly limit their perception of the reality.  Now, after years of hard work and hard lessons, I find myself, for example, talking to people when I am waiting in line or shopping.  I try to ask people their names and smile, and when I see that I have brightened someone's day or made them smile I have a much easier time of acheving my own spiritual and bio-energetic goals.

Energy work has also increased my overall appreciation for life and all that it entails, from the beauty of nature to the nature of suffering....

The Hobbit is a wondeful novel, as are all of Tolkeins books...

Qui-GOnn, what is "Way of the Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman about...wat kind of book is it?  GIve us a synsopsis if you can...

I started reading "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" but never got around to finishing it, but what I had read was very good up to that point.

Here are a few other great books of fiction, has anyone read any of them?:

The Education of Little Tree- Forest Carter
Enders Game- by Orson Scott Card
Tuesdays with Morey- author?
Collected poetry of William Blake (not really fiction, but I love Blake's poems!)

Welcome to Metaphysics! / What is Magick?
June 06, 2002, 13:14:38
Nobody probably cares, but I don't like the word "magick" I think it has negative connotations.  I prefer...well, I don't know what to call it.. magick?  jk  I do think it's time to come up with a better term.  I guess the only way to accomplish that will be to break a thousand years of tradition and come out with a best selling new age book with all kinds of "never before seen" esoteric knowledge and call magick something else throughout it..that's REAL likely to happen eh?

Well...I think it could go either way.  I think you can answer that question better than anyone.  How well can you distinguish from a mental creation, dream and real-time OBE?  That's the real question.

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Death

I have only breify glanced over this thread but I do plan on reading it carefully soon and then responding, but I did catch something someone said about what Frank said (got that?) which I would like to reiterate:
"Oooh what an interesting thread... I believe what Frank says in how everyone goes to their own little dimensions with other like-minded people after death.... after all, "thought is a primary energy" to quote Frank."

I agree wholeheartedly with this.  When people talk about Heaven, in essence they are talking about a perfect state which is inhabited by perfect beings, all of like mind and will.  For example, when Christ talked about he and the Father being one, and all of us also being one...this is the goal for those advanced, progressed beings who have completely eradicated negative energy from themeselves.  This is perfection...and no, I don' think we sit around strumming harps all day but in fact we work to help others see things the way we do and become perfect.

I think when we die we will remain pretty much the same way we are now and will have a long road towards perfection...but of course everything will be different because it will be like a permanent OBE until we are again united with a perfected physcial body...and even with that incorruptible body "OBE" or whatever you want to call it, will be possible.  I believe we will even, at some point- if we become perfect- will be able to create worlds and help other spirits reach perfection.  "The game of life" is training grounds for becoming like God, and we are already a part or extension of Him- part of his conscious--and death is nothing more than us moving on to another step in our eternal path, and hopefully we will have taken from this life the lessons necessary to help us...

What have I done?  What have I done, ahhhhhhhhhhh! jk

Actually, we can philosophize ourselves to death, liiterally...therefore I agree with Kristen, at the end of the day we need to ask ourselves, "What have I done to make the world a better place?  What have I done to better myself?"  I love to philosophize and conversate, however and that is why I love this forum and spoecifically this thread.

Wait a minute...I am sorry if I caused you to misunderstand me.  No psychic told me the lakers are going to win, I was just asking IF anyone believes that a pschic or anyone who supposedly can "see the future" could predict something like a sporting event...

Interesting comments nonetheless...

Like others who have posted here, I have a difficult time getting in touch with my higher self after having consumed any kind of foerign substance, even regular food (in large quantities)...

Because all of our bodies (albeit subtle bodies, etheric, etc.) are connected and if we have something affecting one of them in an unnatural way, it's going to throw it all off...  there's my two cents.

"So its kind of weird because I cant remember having the consciuos exit until after I'm back so I still have confusion and trouble when Im out. "

-You are familiar with Robert Bruce's whole "mind split" theory right?  TO me it's not really a theory, more of a fact-- but anyway, it could sure explain what's going on here...

Bailin' on the thread?  Just when it was getting interesting!  Just kidding!  Despite the "heated" debate, I really think a lot of interesting truths were brought to light and a lot of good points were made.  I am just glad everyone can agree to disagree and still be agreeable.

Hey!  Every once in a while I have to come and check in on the little monster I've created!

Anyway, I was just thinking about something the other day: what if we enjoyed "world peace?"  One things for sure, we would all have enough food....easily.  I don't know the stats (maybe someone else could enlighten us with details) but it's something like one state in the US could feed half of the world population if it had to.  I may be over-exaggerating grossly, but I do know that for the last five decades or so the US gov't has had to subsidize farmers because of the fact that we can simply produce more than enough food to feed our country.

I agree that the US should do more to help those citizens of other nations, and the gov't (we?) should do a lot less of the negative things we do outside the US that involve violence and decpetion in the name of self-interest, BUT the main thing is this: the leaders of most of those countries who need the most help and who are in the deepest have leaders who are CORRUPT and HOPELESS.  I remember when I was in junior high my friends and I would say things like, "We should just go take over in all of the those third world countries and make them be like us..."  Of course this was faulty thinking on my behalf, but what obligation does the US, UK, Australia, Germany and every other first world country have towards these people?  What do we do to help them?

For those of you who are against the US meddling in the affairs of countries in which genocide and violence runs rampant think the US should do?  Should we let people like Milosevich (I probably misspelled his name) go off and murder hundreds or even thousands of people?

Where can we do today, this month, this year to help out places like Kenya and Sierra Leone?
