(I doubt that this is the right section for my post, but it is the best I could come up with. Moderators, please move this if it is out of place here. Thanks.)

Last night I saw a dream that made me realize that a thing that happened to me when I was really young has since made me unable to fully enjoy certain aspects of life.

In other words: long time ago I was slightly traumatized(?) by something that happened to me back then.
And now I have finally realized that fact and the exact cause of it.
(The whole thing is not something that makes my life bad, but has certainly affected it to some extent.)

Now my question is:
How do I go about starting to get over this thing in order to get unaffected by it? It still takes time, I think, but I believe there is more I can do than just wait and get another dream some 15 years from now :D

At this point I'm really happy and feel great. It feels like there has been something hidden in me that I've been only dimly aware of so far, but can now see it clearly. Makes me feel kind of lighter.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions / comments!

One of my favourite bands. And I am pretty critical about music. They have shown great progression between every album, altough I don't think that 10,000 days is their greatest album. However, it is a very good record, especially when listened with good earphones :)

I'd rank (if asked) Aenema and Lateralus very high. Undertow very much kicks butt too :)
Awesome to listen to these and play along with guitar.

Cydonos, I know exactly the kind of sound you are talking about, and have had few OOBEs while just focusing on the sound and making it louder and louder. At first it felt kind of nasty and scary, but I've get used to it now.

At some point, when focusing on the ringing, you'll notice that you don't feel your body, and end up being 'paralyzed'. This is the time when you just get up as you would normally, and it will take you out of body. At least that's how it works for me.

Now that I think of it, it's strange that my first OOBE was spontaneus, and came without any noises or vibrations or any other symptoms. After that my projections have been more dream-like, or blurry. They're  getting more clear every time, though.
Anyway, I miss the feeling of just floating out of body as in my first oobe, that felt just wonderful! Every experience I've had after that have more or less required me to work myself out of body by 'getting up' and this was not easy at first (was getting pulled back right away and moving was like swimming in glue or something plus the vision was bit like mirrored or something like that).

Don't know if any of this actually helps you, but there you have it anyway :)
Oh, and good luck!

lol it's the guitar

what song are you playing orbi?

I think it's just an improvisation.
In the past summer, it was the usual way to spend fridays with my friend who plays drums  :)

I'm normally pretty shy, but I'm willing to make an exception here :)

When you connect with your intuition, it's like there is no artistic decisions to be made - the ideas/creations present themselves. It's a great feeling being in that flow.
Short and to the point!

I think this is why musicians get pretty strong kicks from composing their music. I've always had hard time explaining this to anyone asking about it, but basically, when the flow begins, it feels as if the music lands down into you from somewhere as a continuous stream of sounds, and you're forced to concentrate on what you're doing with it, to get it absolutely right.
To sensation that comes from the realization of being in this state doesn't ever seem to lose it's power.

I had a creative breakthrough the other night that just came to me out of nowhere as I laid down for bed.

Some time ago, there was an article on a local newspaper about being lazy on summer holidays. One of the points to just relax and do nothing at all (you know, workaholics cannot do this very easily) was that people get the best ideas when they are doing nothing.

For what I know (I'm very lazy at best), this seems like a solid fact :D
I do lots of music and programming (which sometimes involves some pretty hard creative/analytical thinking), and the best sparkles of inspiration and the best ideas have hit me when doing nothing and just thinking of something totally useless non-sense. Good to have chocolate to go with these moments, too :)

I once had a major (the-whole-project-will-be-blocked-until-I-solve-this) problem with a program I was coding, and finally got to sleep tired and frustrated and with no solution to the problem.
At some point in my sleep, I saw a dream where I just suddenly knew how the problem can be solved, and I immediately woke up. I wrote everything down (just to be sure, altough I knew I would remember it) and went back to sleep.

In the morning I woke up, sat at my computer and implemented the "proposed" solution. Then I tested it, and everything worked just fine.
I forgot to thank my subconscious for the great work, but I think it got its thanks in the form of seeing me so happy :)

This is very interesting and I've read about mantras before, but never actually tried any. And now as I read this thread, my curiosity has finally reached the point where I'm obligated to make a difference in this matter.
I have one question, though:

Do mantras have to be said out loud, or is it sufficient to speak them in your mind, only imagining the voice?

I'm currently in a position where repeating mantras would - depending on the time - wake someone up, or just annoy the heck out of them.  I could get in open air to find some quiet place, but that's not a good option, since it's starting to get a bit cold now as winter seems to have finally taken over autumn.

(Already gives me the shivers, when thinking about some 30 degrees below zero, which is to come at some point after the year has changed)

Who I am really doesn't matter, because the thing that brings us all here is our experiences and our perspective on life, rather than belonging to some specific type of personality. I mean, we are pretty colorful community.
(Hard to come out right with my english skills :/)

But if you have to know, I'm a 24-year old music enthusiast and quiet thinker type of guy from Finland.
I also like programming very much. And cats. And chocolate :) (Who doesn't..)

I have been practicing lucid dreams for about two years, and have had nice amount of them in the process, too. From lucid dreaming I started to learn about oobes and astral projection.
I've had one OOBE so far, and that was very spontaneous one. Anyway, that made me do the decision to start deliberately practicing and trying to induce OOBEs.
The AP forums have proved and excellent resource on the subject, and you will hear more from me
once I get some success. Or if I come up with something constructive on my way here :)

Thanks,
Orbi

(oh, sorry for any bad english and such things; English is not one of my strongest skills. And I tend to make a note about it every now and then. Bad habit, but what can you do when you think that you have written something that others might get wrong. I'm afraid of coming out wrong :I )

I have experienced the sound many times too. Couple of times I've managed to get into a state of sleeping paralysis by just concentrating on the sound and making it louder.
I haven't had much success lately on inducing this sound, and have always wondered what the heck it is.

Thanks for the link, Doch.

I have never actually induced an OBE, but have had one by "accident". I was just lying on my back and suddenly felt extremely light and started shifting out and then up towards the ceiling. There is more to it, but I don't feel like going there now. Those who know - well - they know, and those don't, will know. Good luck on your efforts!
(Didn't want to make another "My first success"-thread to share this).

(oh, sorry for any bad english and other such mistaeks, for I'm a Finn.)
*Should put that in my sig.
