Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Squeeezing
April 09, 2007, 13:34:29
Hey guys,
I had the most bizarre experience last night while trying to AP shortly after waking up from a dream. I suddenly felt 'pressure' on me, on all sides. Like I was being forced through some kind of tube that was too small. Only it was all over my skin. I felt really 'electric'. But no luck, didn't get out.

Anyone else had this 'squeezing' thing happen before?

That's interesting, I have that quite often. A feeling that im literaly falling. It always freaks me out though, so If it's an AP thing, then I'll try harder to ignore it next time.

Welcome to Dreams! / Have more vivid dreams?
April 06, 2007, 05:02:21
Hey guys,
This question has probably been asked a million times before, and if it has I do apologise lol. But, I was wondering. If any of you had any suggestions on how to have more vivid dreams? Most of my dreams have a habit of being fairly... 'hazy'.

Also, any ideas on why with some of my dreams, they're kind of vivid, but they 'flash' REALLY vivid for only a second or so, but I can never seem to hold it, lucid or otherwise  :-(

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums Ape11  :-)

As for your question, there's no way to be sure really. Some people will argue that lucid dreaming *is* astral projecting, I personally think that they are seperate things. Though from what you described, I'd say it was an OOBE. But, congratulations, you experienced... something lol. I hope you have more success in the future.

Alternatively, it's possible that you have an unconscious "resistance" to projection, and this presents itself as all the symptoms you described - heaviness, poor vision etc.

I was in total blackness though lol

Heaviness used to be a common occurence for me.  It would feel like I had about 10 blankets on me at times.  Or that I had been drugged and couldn't rouse myself.  Very frustrating, but normal.

It happens to me in dreams too sometimes, I remember I had a dream once where I was at school and I was trying to get to class. But with the weight of my body, it took me what felt like an hour to drag myself by my hands across the campus lol.

Quote from: Selski on February 22, 2007, 16:25:59
The way I overcame it was to ignore the symptoms and not focus on them.  As soon as I stopped worrying about being blind, I gained sight.

I wasn't really worried, I was just trying to get out first

If you ever find yourself without any vision, a common thing to try is to use 'commands' such as "CLARITY NOW!" or "VISION NOW!". Don't say please, just demand it! Or what I do is I just picture my eyes opening.

I'll try to remember that next time! Thanks

Sluggish body is quite common.  Either you feel really heavy, tired, pulling against a resistance, or moving through treacle.  Also vision tends to be poor at these times.  I'm not sure why this happens, but there is a school of thought that says that this is an "etheric projection".  The "etheric" body is your physical aura and although we can function in it, and separate it from the physical body, it can't move far away, does not support clear consciousness, and is subject  to a tug or resistance in moving away from the physical.  Many people don't like this idea of an etheric body, and it may or may not be true, I'm just mentioning it so that you can make your own mind up.  Alternatively, it's possible that you have an unconscious "resistance" to projection, and this presents itself as all the symptoms you described - heaviness, poor vision etc.  When this occurs to me I just struggle against it, but usually have to wait for another day to get a better quality experience....  :|

That would certainly explain it. I've had another experience similar to the one I described above, but instead of being able to move and not see, I could see like I see my monitor right now, as clear as day, but was paralysed lol. But, it is re-assuring to have experiences like this from time to time. Keeps me somewhat... motivated I guess. Which is difficult at the best of times for me.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll try to remember it all next time I get an oppertunity.

I'm no expert on OOBE's, but hearing sounds, tingling and floating sensations I'm pretty sure are trademark "I'm nearly out" symptoms of OOBE's. All I can suggest is, keep trying, don't give up and don't be disheartened.

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Duality
February 22, 2007, 13:57:49
Hey all,
The other night I was having one of those flying dreams, not lucid or anything, just a normal dream. I was flying over a big city and at some point, I gained lucidity, and my ability to fly just went out the window. I fell, and then everything went black. It was at this point I began to see faces in the darkness, disfigured faces. I mean, really messed up looking. They were talking to me. While I was unable to understand what they were saying, I knew what they meant. They were essentially telling me that Astral Projection was evil and blablabla. I ignored them and pressed on with my desire to project. They vanished and I was suddenly able to feel things again. I could feel my body laying in bed, and... another body laying in bed. Both of which I had control over. Well, I think I had control over anyway. I didn't try to move my 'physical' body out of fear I would 'wake up'. So anyway, Still in this blackness, I tried to move what I thought was my astral arm. I lifted it up, it was so weird feeling this arm and my other arm firmly on my bed at the same time. I couldn't sit up with my astral body, it was too heavy. So I tried to roll out of bed with it instead, and got halfway. It felt like I had a 100kg backpack strapped to me. Every movement required so much effort. Anyway, I lost my concentration for a second and really woke up :(.

At the very least, it was an affirming experience for me, as I have had very limited success since I first started trying at the start of 2006.

So, question time.
1. Is the sluggish body I encountered common?
2. How can I overcome something like that if it happens again?
3. How come I didn't have any vision, and was stuck in this blackness?
4. Any tips/suggestions?

Thanks in advance
- Chris

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Sudden Dread
January 27, 2007, 15:45:40
Hey all, I was trying to AP last night, all the usual things happened after a while and at some point or another I just had this feeling that I was about to get free, when suddenly a sense of dread just came over me, something told me that if I went through with it my body would die and I would be trapped on the AP plane. I guess I just find it frustrating because of how long ive been trying without success, and i thought I'd gotten over that fear of leaving the body. Has this happened to anyone else before? Suggestions?

From what I've heard, it is indeed possible to stay out and let the physical body die. It is a voluntary process that takes tremendous development and determination.

Death is pretty tough to study though... Considering you only get to do it once :P

Unless you get revived  ...er... if that's possible after doing that.

I've actually heard of Monks in the Himalayan Mountains whom were found to be deceased whilst in the meditation pose. Makes one wonder if they had seperated permanently from their physical bodies during one of their spiritual outings.

I'm sure that if it is possible it would take many years of meditation/obes/projections/etc.

PUL,

That's really quite fascinating, you wouldn't happen to have a link to a news story or something handy would you?

As for my own opinion on weather this is possible or not, from what I've heard I would say it is. I hope your not planning anything sinister RigVeda.

Not to be negative or anything, but I read somewhere that whilst AP'ing you leave your body open for posession by evil spirits / demons / whatever. I was just wondering, is this actually possible at all?

I think that the "beginner's luck" (which I also experienced) is a way to let you know that it's real and possible so you don't give up. When you have that little inkling of proof, you know you can do it again sooner or later.

I couldn't agree with you more Stookie. Once you have experienced it, even just a really vivid lucid dream, it stops becoming a question of if, and rather a question of when.

Remember, they can't harm you!

Also, I seem to recall reading a post a while ago, about someone who had a simliar problem, and someone suggested simply saying to the ghost/spirit "you have no power over me, leave!" and it worked for him/her. Worth a try.

Intriquing, I often try and picture the starry sky beyond my roof often when I try and project.

Real Time Zone

It's the realm that most closely resembles waking reality.

Cool, thanks!

To be honest I have seen many and tried many and I find them all overly complex and requiring a lot of 'blind faith'. Many people who experience these occurence simply dont have the faith in 'chakras', 'doorways' 'portals' 'third eyes' or whatever else and this hinders the ability to effectively utilise any of the methods. The get frustrated easily and fail at the first hurdles.

Yes, I totally agree with you there, I find them most confusing. Though I will admit, I do believe somewhat in chakras.

possibly some arousal which is common also, and then you are almost there.

ROFL, im glad its not just me  :-P

Interesting method, I'll give it a shot tonight and let you know how it goes  :-D

Ok, so last night, I was pretty tired, and really couldn't be bothered trying to AP. Yet, for some reason, at some point during the night I think I actually did. I dreamt I was in my room. Well, it sort of resembled my room. The basic elements of furniture were there (bed, desk) but there were a few things missing. Anyway, at some point I became lucid and the dream became ultra vivid, like, I could make out the fine details on things and it was almost to the point where I could have mistaken it for "real life". I wasn't doing anything remarkable, just walking around the room, and, yes, putting clothes away. I was affraid that if I tried to do something cool like fly out through the roof or something, I'd lose concentration and snap out of it. So I pottered around the room for a minute, before I decided to venture out into the rest of the house. I put my hand on the door handle, I could actually feel the cool metal, it was amazing, I even became aware of my "astral limbs" so to speak. Like, not my physical limbs, but... you know. Anyway, I opened the door and stepped out into a pitch black hallway. The only light coming from my room behind me, somewhat illuminating the hallway. But the second I stepped out into it, everything became blurry, very blurry and everything went pitch black. Im guessing I woke up at that point, either that or I had another dream that I don't recall. So I guess my question is, would you call this an actual astral experience? Because it was almost as vivid as looking at my computer screen right now, I could feel my limbs, I could feel the environment around me it just didn't last very long.

If it was, then I'd be pretty damm stoked. I've been trying on and off since... Januaryish. So if it was, then this would have been my first actual experience. Not including lucid dreams, and vivid dreams that weren't lucid.

Tips, advice, comments would be appreciated!

...but as soon as I tried to focus harder into it, it disappeared... Instead of intensifying it, I tried to look with my physical eyes -- I'll have to get used to stop doing that :P

I have the same problem! It's irritating :P
