Welcome to News and Media! / The Secret?

I have a not card, I read every day I get up. First thing it says on it?
I never complain. I've read it 1000's of times. Why is it so difficult for me though? I don't get it.

The subconscious mind responds better to more positive type affirmations. Instead of telling yourself "I never complain." try something like "I am happy with my life and family.". The more we tell ourselves of something we don't want, such as complaining, the more likely it will happen anyway.

Instead of telling yourself that you are "not" something. Tell yourself something that you "are." Does it seem to make more sense?

My main point is that some people take things too seriously, sometimes with catastrophic results. If the media would have let it go, this whole mess probably wouldn't have happened. But I guess controversy drives ratings and keeps the advertisers happy....

Kamals, I appreciate you helping put things in perspective on this issue for me. You seem to have a much better understanding on this.

I decided to give the $5.00 Pay Per View a go on The Secret, and I must say that it is very well made. Yes, the Secret is the Law of Attraction, but it goes into detail on how it can be applied to many aspects of life. It has absolutely nothing to do with Freemasons or anything like that, and it doesn't just tell you to go to some overpriced seminar or retreat.

I must say that this video did open my eyes even more than before. It may not be for everyone, but I'm ordering the DVD. Right now, they're even giving a discount on the DVD if you ordered the pay per view (the full $5.00).

I'm sure Adrian and some of the other well-known members of these forums would agree that the universe is energy, and we attract those energies whether they're positive or negative. Despite this, we all have control over this if we choose. The Law of Attraction is so simple, yet takes time to fully understand and use with mastery.

Knucklebrain, the choice is yours to watch it, but its kind of hard to complain about something that you haven't taken the time to actually watch. How many times have you ponied up 8 bucks to go see a movie at the theaters, and later found that the movie sucked? If you watch the movie, you're only out $5, so its not much of a loss either way compared to the crappy sequels and remakes we've been bombarded with at the box office.

Quote from: runlolaafter all that, she ended up taking the money..

Its kind of funny that one moment, she refuses the money because she feels that it is "tainted," yet later on she takes it anyway? What the heck is wrong with people? If someone like Jerry Falwell gave me a check for 50 grand, I would take it off the bat, although I don't agree with his beliefs. I'd even put up with his religious rhetoric on how I'm probably going to hell because some of the things I do would be considered "dark sided" to him.

Quote from: SmileySpirit1420 bucks says she goes to hell. lol

If she keeps on believing in it and being so afraid of it, maybe her "hell" will be her being stuck in the same pagan/new age environment as the family she stayed with in the show.

No offense to Christians or anything, but I found that video pretty hilarious. I have never seen anyone freak out like that over something they refuse to at least try to understand. What's with her freaking out about her family not questioning whether the woman staying with them was a Christian or not? My own parents are strict Catholics, and I have never seen them freak out simply because a non-Christian entered their house. They always treat me pretty much like all my church-going siblings (for the record, I'm not Christian).

Great signature, Beth! We all grow and learn throughout our lives, I guess its a matter of keeping an open mind to the ideas around you. If only people like Mohler would learn to have an open mind......

Maybe he will get a chance to learn later in this life, or his next.

I feel that it's going to be interesting to see how this fundamentalism turns out in the future. I'm hoping that people will at least learn to show openness and respect for other faiths. We only fear what we don't understand, right?

I am sure we can all come to the consensus that most violent Muslims are not true followers of Islam, however the media may occasionally portray otherwise. Probably one of the reasons why I decided to stop watching TV. I guess many major religions have their fair share of misguided fundamentalists. But, instead of this rampant rioting, maybe it would be a better idea for those offended by the cartoons to simply call for the writers and publishers to simply apologize. Of course, maybe it would have been better if they didn't publish the cartoons in the first place, but since that Pandora's Box has been opened, I guess we need to make the best of it.

Agreed. I also was very surprised at O'Reilly's reactions on that clip. It's people like Dr. Mohler that make other well-meaning religious people look bad.

At the link I posted, there is a link to email Dr. Mohler. I decided to send him an email telling how offended I feel towards his statements, and his judging others like this is simply absurd and hypocritical. I also welcomed him to email me to debate the points I have made.

I am starting to come to the point that ignorance is a very strong source of negativity in this world.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are, Stookie. I left the Catholic church at 16 when I started disagreeing with many of the beliefs and principles (I'm 21 now). I do keep some of the basic teachings, such as doing unto others as you wish to be done to you. My parents are also very Christian, but I've always gotten along with them regardless of my personal spiritual beliefs. I've seen my sister argue with my parents for hours on how their faith is not completely correct (she's an agnostic). I think that the best thing that I can recommend is to simply respect their beliefs, and if something comes up, like a little quirk in your beliefs that don't match with theirs, simply explain how you feel in a non-threatening or non-argumentative manner. If your parents really care about you, I'm sure that they'll understand.

When I was reading about the cartoons, why did all those other cartoons and parodies of Christianity come to mind? The main one that came to me was the "Buddy Christ" in the movie Dogma. I understand why followers of Islam can be upset about something like this, but they're seriously taking it the wrong way by killing people over something they didn't agree with. I don't see Christians killing people over the release of Dogma, so why can't the Muslims just let it go? It would be better for the world if we all just let our anger go and vent it in a more productive fashion.

Today, I found a story on Dr. Al Mohler appearing on Fox News. I don't really listen much to Fox News, but this really caught my eye when I read about this guy's statements:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200603200013

So, Dr. Mohler stated on national TV that any faith other than Christianity is Satanism? Wow, and I thought that fundamentalist Christians were pretty low in my book already.

I was originally raised a Catholic as a kid, but I left the Church when I was 16 because I just didn't feel like I belonged there, as I started to have differing beliefs at that point. Currently, I do not affiliate myself with organized religion, but I do follow a combination of different Wiccan, Buddhist, and Spiritualist principles. I find it very sad that people like Mohler, Jerry Falwell, and Pat Robertson go about judging others, yet they worship someone who preaches peace and acceptance of other people.
