I struggled with the same question at first too. I have personally found that I sleep on my side so being o my back helps me maintain my consciousness to project. Although I have had the most success sitting in a recliner rocked back about 15 degrees to take the pressure off my neck.

One could always use the castaneda books advice on the dreaming position. Sit in the butterfly position with your souls of your feet touching each other and hold a 1 ft long stick to prop your forehead up while you practice relaxation.

Does Anyone here happen to know anything about medicine?? Or is this stuff just been picked up off the internet and regurgitated authoritatively? Because I can tell you from several personal experiences and 8 years of medical training that pot will relax you, block your pain receptors, and make you high by scrambling your brain but will produce nothing like a natural Out of body experience. and if you are "So stoned that you are about to pass out" that it may feel like an OBE, but good luck remembering that. Because guess what. . . you're gonna pass out. Salvia might help, I've tried it a couple times and got nothing but some slurred speech and a phenomenal appreciation for a sunrise I saw while driving home at 6:30 in the morning. Quite simply the best approach is to set your alarm clock for 4:30am get up, tell yourself you're going to project, and go back to bed with some headphones on and a gateway CD. 20-30 minutes later, you'll probably have a clumsy OBE.

I started out as an avid lucid dreamer turned astral projector.

I would have to agree that the single most important tool to do is to keep that dream journal.
Once you start regularly doing that with the intent placed on lucid dreaming as well as your
affirmations it will definetely happen.

Early on in this thread someone was campaigning against BMV's suite of binaural beat CD's
under the auspices that the human ear couldn't detect the sounds. I can say that beyond a
shadow of a doubt my first 20+ OBE's were achieved with the assistance of the astral vibrations
CD played followed up by the astral projection CD. Since that time I don't use them regularly anymore,
but played back to back it was a very powerful training wheel like tool for me.

Holy Crap!

What neighborhood has a sensory depravation tank, I'd do this in a heartbeat.

How do you even come across one of these? I'm so jealous I'm getting sick.

Ok, anyway sounds like a good time and good luck.

I know this is going to sound silly, . . . but when I experience the vibrational state the only think I have to do to get out of my body is focus on relaxing just a little more and I slide right out.

I found if I try to force it with ROPE or rolling methods I just get stuck.

Welcome to the club.

I wouldn't say that you had the prototypical first projection effects but you're having effects I would consider well within the range of normal if there is such a 'normal' for the paranormal. Part of the fear is probably consistent with your belief structure or your subconscious social conditioning kicking in. Push onward, there is nothing really to fear with your first projections, once you have a full blown one you'll laugh at the opinions you had while caught in those mid/half projected states.

good luck

I've run across a few 'astral' laws during my days. . . but mostly for me these apply only to the RTZ.

1) Windows. . . I could go through them, slowly and I taste glass. Go figure. I have in the past bounced off a window or 2 when I first started.

2) If you try to fly through a wall into some place you've never been before. . . you end up in crazyworld.
You think you did it but when you try to 'prove' it later. . . you were in a quasi dream. Now, . . if you can fly under a door or through something that you can see into it with I have found for me that this worked just fine. So I would always leave a path for me to get out of my room/house to the outside world without having to fly through something.

3) Electrical charges repel the energy body. . . By this I mean I have been thrown back by electrical outlets, power lines, and batteries. Including one time when I 'felt' the electrical shock in my arm for days afterwards. So I generally try to avoid them. I AM curious whether this is just a personal quirk or some things that other people have experienced as well?

4) Taste. . . after I project I have found that certain tastes have stuck with me. Each time it is stuff that I have flown through or part way through. These tastes were so profound they stuck with me for days and 3-4 years later I can still recall it whenever I want (although none of them were particularly good)

1.) Carpet
2.) Glass -through a window
3.) A purple Flower.  . . although I never ate the flower to prove I was right.

Thanks,

Don't know about that, but my best work has been done in a recliner as well. . .

I've often thought that it would be helpful to have one like that where you could move the pressure off your neck just a little further back and slightly disorient your focus. The other thing I thought would be cool is if someone could invent a 'comfortable' chiropractic table where you could lay face down and project like that. I've only projected once while laying on my stomach and something about the exit experience seemed cool to me.

Did you ever see the Matrix? You have to believe.

I've run into this problem several times. A lucid, or mostly lucid dream where your proof would be to fly and it fails. or you try to walk through a wall and can't. The best thing that I have found here is to state out loud (yell it really) that "I am dreaming" or "I can fly" it turns out that stating it out loud tends to validate it in your mind because its not something that you would do in real life I imagine. I've also found that a running start helps in those circumstances or just run real fast with the intent to fly and I've taken off the ground like a plane. Once you're in the air you are fine. Also I believe it was steven laberge that turned me on to the timeless dream command "enhance clarity now" for partially lucid dreams. Works like a champ for me.

Here's what I do. . .

Fly up Really High so that you're looking at the world like a map. then pick where you want to land and descend on it. The only thing that seems to limit speed is to believe it will limit you. However, when I fly 'fast' I end up having to start slowly and build up some momentum that keeps me going faster and faster. (I can't explain it might just be a personal thing)

I had some good success using the method Indigo rains provided particularly early on . . . had a great session going till the fan in my room broke and well....it scared me :) after that I went to bed.

Used it a little bit this afternoon as the precursor for a short projection as well.

oh its all about the recliner for me. hands down!

Yeah, not necessarily the exact same. . . but I usually hear what I call "the radio" playing in my head sometimes extremely loud. But at first I used to just get the traditonal train rush of sound.

Funny thing about the vibrational state, as soon as you get excited that you got there....its gone. I've personally always found that continuing the focus on relaxation deepens the vibrational state for me and often times I'll just "pop out" alaa being shot out of a cannon. Normally the way it works for me is that I get my astral vision first. When I can see but am still in my body I usually just rock myself out, sit up style or roll out sideways. It works just like the robert bruce rope method for me.

Concerning feeling like you are bumping into your skin without enough energy to get out was something that I felt a lot right after reading astral dynamics and spending a lot of time in my recliner. It turns out that for me what I had thought was a deep enough state of relaxation was way off. When people mean mind awake body asleep I always thought that it was more like body quite relaxed, but for me I need to get to the point where I can't feel my limbs. To do this I picture my body (after some normal relaxation breathing and energy work ) in whatever position is in, and I visually start erasing my limbs until I don't feel them at all.

hope that helps

Hi Everyone,

I encountered something the other night which made me go back through my journals and realize that this has now happened 3 times. I have found that when projecting in the RTZ that I get a very strong repulsioin when attempting to go through elctricity carrying devices. For example, I attempted to pass through a wall near an electric socket and got shocked.
It wasn't a physical shock but more like someone put a bucket on my head and hit it with a stick. On another occasion probably 3 months later, I had a similar experience with a ceiling fan lamp. But the thing that made me look into this was I was experimenting with a monroe institute CD (vectors or horizons or one of the adventure ones) when I got my happy projection feelings. My head came out, but I got stuck at my waist, I laid back down and my feet came out. Then I began to rock back and forth for what felt like an hour head out, feet out, head out. etc. etc. until I gave up. When I got out of bed it occurred to me that my laptop batter had fallen onto my waist.  I guess I'm curious if anyone else has experienced similar sensations while projecting through electric fields or if I am in fact once bitten twice shy creating my own barriers.

Happy projecting,

Hi everyone,
I projected in the RTZ with no real 'plan' because it has been a couple months since my last projection and I wanted to get back out there. Anyway I shoot out of my body into my room and go outside through the window to explore the neighborhood and fly around, mostly I'm just elated I successfully projected after numerous failed attempts in the last 2 weeks. So I'm curious whether my roommates are home, and I go through one's window. He is sitting at his computer and I get inspired to get his attention because he still believes that projecting is fake. I scream I wave my arms and fly around him. This is all pretty normal, and he doesn't have the slightest clue. Then I look around his head and I see a red helium filled balloon floating near the ceiling. I go up and grab it which is weird because you can't manipulate anything in the rtz and would normally shoot right through it, not to mention when I went to his room he was sitting in front of the computer where he should be, but no red balloon in sight. Well I hit him with the astral balloon a couple times, got bored and flew out the window. But I guess my question is that those of you who find yourself in the RTZ fairly often, do you see objects or items that aren't there on the physical and find them to be malleable in your astral form. It was just something new for me and was surprised because I never intended to create the balloon like I have intended other astral items in the past. Thanks,

Hello,
I imagine that there are several budding projectors out there who have some under their belt, and are left with more questions than answers. Right now I have decided that my next move will be to meet my 'guide.' Everyone seems to talk about them but I'm not sure where to find mine. I have been out 18 times, mostly to the RTZ. (or,...something like it) and I'm curious whether I should just 'think/say' while in my room or around our town house development "Hello guide, I would like to meet you please come here" or something like that. Tonight I'll try that, but for those of you with active guides I'm curious at the process by which you met them and whether they will show up in my room or at my front door or what? I would appreciate any explanations someone could give. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I was wondering if you could clarify this a little more.
You mentally create a line of light or energy or so
going back out of you. But are you recapitulating the experiences
that bring you back to your birth, or is it just enough that you
picture this line which causes the ap?
Thanks,
