I've had the same problem when trying to meditate/stay conscious while my body falls asleep. Mark, you bring up an interesting point, one that has gone through my mind a few times...

Consider this - when you go to sleep each evening, you don't spend hours in bed lying awake thinking "I can't get to sleep because of my eyelids" ?! do you ! Why is this ?

I've come to conclude I am definitely thinking about it too much. Just knowing that there are others having (more importantly, that had) the same difficulties will give me the confidence to forget about it and move on.

I've recently become interested by the whole idea of Astral Projection, and I'm just looking to gain a little insight. My whole life it seems I've had intricate and complex dreams, nightly. I may not always remember them, but I do remember the great detail in which they unfold. When I was younger (7-10 years old) I used to have lucid dreams in which I would have adventures in a seemingly fictional world, befriend and help fictional characters in the dream, then say goodbye to them and willfully wake myself up when morning came.

I don't have many lucid dreams anymore, but I'd like to develop the ability to astral project and have OBEs. It would no doubt change my outlook on life indefinitely. Hope to become a contributing member someday :)
