The dream sounds very shamanistic to me.

I just went to a meeting at the Sydney Gnostic Centre. It was ok. I don't really like it when people tell you "this is how it is." I think that it is important to come up with your own interpretations.

I will check it out again, though. I like the meditation techniques.

You claim not to know much about 2012, but you still insist on making your own claims. Maybe you should read about 2012.

Wow Phitau! That sounded weirdly aggressive and uncalled for. Are you forgetting who's post this is?

Thanks Krizzy. I appreciate the answers. Personally, I find you to be quite plausible. But, I am the type of person that has to analyse everything to death. I would also like to reiterate that I cannot think of a motive you would have for faking it. I mean, if you were just looking for attention, you would probably have tried contacting someone who might put you on TV or something.

I must admit that if I had not had a couple of OBEs when I was younger (and very open minded), I would probably not have given very much thought to the phenomena. I tend to be agnostic about everything. I don't believe or disbelieve 100% in anything until it has been proven to my satisfaction, either way.

However, after I wrote those questions I also listened to the other version of the terribleedit file that you also have on there and it actually seemed to put some context to the recordings. I just can't buy that you would be talking about your dogs one second and then faintly whispering into the microphone the next. I mean you could have, but something about the recording just tells me that that is very unlikely.

My opinion on whether this COULD be you or not, is that it seems to be the best explanation. People claim to have seen dead people in the astral realm, and they are the ones normally associated with these recordings. If astral travellers are travelling the same place as the dead, it seems as though their consciousness could be made of the same energy while there.

I am still really excited about the idea of an experiment. I believe there were a couple of people that were going to try this out, from the other forum (and hopefully now this one  :wink:). It is back up now. Hopefully, they can get all of the old posts back, but somehow I doubt that this one is going to be forgotten, anyway. I certainly haven't.

I had actually given it a lot of thought, since your original post. I have come up with a small theory in regards to EVP. I was thinking that it is probably unlikely that these noises are actually produced through sound waves, due to the fact that they don't seem to be heard by the naked ear. It is more likely that it is some form of energy, probably electromagnetic. Now, if I am correct, I believe that the way that microphones work, is that a diaphragm is vibrated, which then transfers those vibrations into electrical impulses, which are then recorded by the device. It would seem plausible then, that if these noises are not sound waves, they would be bypassing the diaphragm and sending the energy directly into the subsequent components.

You may remember on the other post that I suggested that someone try to mess directly with the recording device to see what the effects would be, but then nixed that idea as it might interfere with anything that might be recorded. Well an idea I had after that would be to set up an external microphone (say attached to a computer or other recording device) and the person that is OBE could mess directly with the microphone, therefore not compromising the device itself.

[For everyone else on here who may wish to try this, we also discussed that possibly a combination of analog and digital recorder should be used and that a lot of emotion should be put into what is said, while OBE. In case that has some bearing on the amount of energy that is emitted. Also, as Krizzy mentionned, water may be good for capturing this type of energy and may be good to have around on the off chance that it can also amplify or so that recordings can be attempted later. All of this is guesswork of course, so let us know if you have any other ideas. Krizzy, did I miss anything?]

Anyone on here game to try this?

A few of questions (sorry I have to ask):

1. The exhalation, that would be while you were holding the microphone, not while OBE. Correct?

2. If it was while you were holding the microphone, why did you have it so close to your mouth/nose? The reason I ask this is that if it were me, and I was attempting to capture EVPs, I would set the microphone down and leave it for a while. Or I would at least hold it away from me and towards the water.

3. Have you tried to capture these sounds again? If the sounds where... uh... absorbed (???) four years ago, it would seem that they would repeat every now and then.

4. What prompted you to set up the recorder by the fish tank, in the first place? Was it just experimenting with EVP?

5. Was this your first attempt at capturing EVPs in this room? How long into your recordings were these noises caught?

Don't get me wrong, I really want to believe you, but these questions are nagging at me a bit.

I am also relunctant to say this, in case you are telling the truth (and I can't imagine why anyone would make this up), but if you were whispering into a microphone that would be a pretty good explanation for the exhalation being caught immediately after the EVP. Sorry to play the role of the skeptic.  :-(

Hey Krizzy,

Remember me? Anyway, I am not sure if it is just me, but the links don't seem to work. I know people on the other forum seemed to be able to access them at some point. Any chance of a PM with the audio files?

Cheers!

Edit: Don't worry about the PM. I got them to work.  :-D

I was hoping for a little help.

I have been trying to find some specific information on religions and cultures that believe in out of body experiences and maybe use them as common practice.

I have been told by a few people that there are areas in India where it is quite common practice, but no one can give me specifics.

I don't want anyone to go to any trouble to research this for me. But if anyone knows any specific information or can point me to some good resources, I would greatly appreciate it.

All I have been able to find out so far, is that perhaps practitioners of Kundalini Yoga teach the belief in the ability to leave your body, but have not been able to find much information on this.

Thanks in advance  :-D.

I prefer to call them totem animals, more than guides. For me, the real guides are people (or beings with people aspect).

Thanks. I was going to post a question about the distinction between the two, but instead decided to launch straight into the story.

I have now read that it is common to encounter more than one totem animal, so perhaps this is just one of mine. Perhaps, the black panther showed up as this was the totem animal that was most pertinant to the situation (I noted relevances in my post).

I hope I meet my spirit guide next...

Some people who AP don't ever feel them. Not once.

So you don't really need them. As stated above, they are just markers telling you that you are getting close.

The theory is that the more it rumbles the more resistance there is, it gets calmer each time.

Oh. I thought the earthquake vibrations where a good thing, but this makes sense. The earthquake vibrations always seem just as likely to produce a brick in your shorts as an OBE.

Ok. This is absolutely blowing my mind.

I think that I met my animal spirit guide. It was during a dream...

Night of March 25, 2008

I think that the dream begins here, but I am not absolutely certain. I walk into a house and down a set of stairs. Immediately as I get to the bottom of the stairs is a massive black panther. I start to back away from the panther and it growls at me a little bit. I make my way back up the stairs to the landing by the door. At this point, I am glad that the panther has not yet started after me because I am sure that if it starts now it will not be able to catch me.

I go up another set of stairs and almost immediately across the hall into that bathroom. I shut the door to the bathroom, but just as I am about to close the door there is a push and I am scared that the panther will overpower me. It does not. I manage to close the door and engage the lock.

As soon as the lock engages, I become lucid. Everything changes. The wall between me and that panther dissappears, but it is now as if I am looking at him in a black and white television screen (a little bit staticy) and it is a frozen picture. I think to myself something like, "Now that I am lucid, I am going to stand up to this panther and see if I can kill it."

I put my hand out and try to shoot lightning into it's head, but it did not work. I tried again to really believe that it would work and something happens, but then I wake up.

Immediately, I am dissappointed that my first instinct was to attack the panther and not to AP or go to the Lucid Crossroads. I wish that I had spun in a circle because that had allowed me to stay in the dream longer the last time I was lucid.

I got up, went to the washroom and then went back to sleep.

Later the next morning, I was still stoked that I had become lucid again and decided to thank my spirit guide, in case they had helped me. That was, of course, when it hit me.

Oh sh*%. Did I attack my spirit guide?

When I went to bed the night before, I had asked for help from my spirit guide to help me become lucid. I had also recently been thinking about what type of animal my animal spirit guide would be. I absolutely swear that black panther never even remotely crossed my mind. First of all, I am a dog person. So I assumed that there might be a chance that it is a wolf (but this seemed to be wishful thinking). I also thought that maybe it would be a horse, as I really like them and I was born in the year of the horse. A black panther just seemed a little too random (and surprisingly awesome!) for it to be made up in my mind.

At lunch that day, my friend told me that a black panther was a very powerful shamanistic guide and I decided to look into it. I suddenly found out that the black panther is a very common animal guide and was very surprise to find out it's main powers:

* Astral travel
* psychic sight
* the power of silence and patience
* Symbol of the feminine
* Reclaiming ones power
* movement in darkness without fear
* Death and rebirth
* guardian/gatekeeper of the void.
* gracefulness

The only thing that did not seem right, was the "Symbol of the feminine," as this panther seemed decidedly male. It had a larger head, which in the animal kingdom and especially big cats, is a strong sign that it is of the male sex.

I place strong meaning to the aspects of Astral travel (which I have been trying again for a couple of months now), Reclaiming ones power (I used to be able to OBE when I was younger, but have been having more difficulty lately. I also used to remember all of my dreams and I used to became lucid all the time), and guardian/gatekeeper of the void (was he the one that allowed me to become lucid during this dream?).

I am not 100% certain that he was still there after I became lucid, because of how everything changed at that point and because he was more like a picture than a realistic object at this point. But, I am really really hoping that I did not, or am unable to hurt him. I have also apologised to him many times, in my mind and hope that he gets the message.

A few questions:

Do you think an animal guide would be angry at a misunderstanding like this?

Why is it that animal guides are always cool animals, like panthers and wolves and eagles? Why not cows or pigs or stranger animals like kangaroos? Is it possible that these spirits have adopted these traits because of man's projections? Did man pray to these creatures and therefore elevate their status in the spirit world? I raise these questions because of my absolute surprise that mine turned out to be a black panther and that this turned out to be a more common animal guide. I just could not have seen that coming.

Sorry about replying to an older post. I just did a search for info on spirit guides and this one popped up.

Phitau, I just wanted to comment on the heart racing issue. If this happens again in the future, you may not want to slow it down. It could just be your heart chakra, not your actual heart. The way you can tell, is because it feels a little too intense, like it is going to beat out of your chest. Anyways, this can be a sign that you might be close to exiting.

This sensation thwarted one of my attempts too.  :x

So what's the verdict Blazewind? Is this your long sought after OBE or something different?

Also, do any of you ever have latent memories that seem to pop up when you read certain posts. I just feel as though I've experienced this before. I have no idea whether the memory is real or whether I can just visualise the sensation so well in my mind that it seems like memory. The same is true for astral sex. I could swear that I have done it before.

Quote from: slipknot0129 on March 26, 2008, 01:01:12am i a quick learner compared to the other beginners?
I managed a complete OBE the second and third times that I ever tried it. This was when I was younger (About 17 years old. I am 30 now) and it seemed very easy to me then. They scared me so bad that I didn't try to do again, until recently. Some people have them without trying at all.

Quote from: slipknot0129 on March 26, 2008, 01:01:12how do i make the vibrations go through my entire body?
There are different types of vibrations. The ones where I have had the easiest time leaving my body, where the very intense ones that were focussed in my head/base of the neck. They seem to come on quite suddenly and can be a little shocking. Or, it may be that most active chakra is either your crown or third eye (Mine are my hands, which are supposed to be minor chakras. Go figure). You can stimulate energy flow by stroking the various parts of yourself that you wish to stimulate. Remember what the sensation feels like and then imagine that you are feeling this sensation in all of the places at once (I think that is a very rough interpretation of Robert Bruce's energy stimulation methods).

Hope this helps.

Does anyone else think that "I am at the ceiling. I am looking down at my legs." sounds more like tunnel vision than OBE.

In general I quite like scientists and their discoveries, but it really pisses me off when they lose their objectivity and start stating that they have proven this or disproven that, when they haven't even skimmed the surface.

"I am at the ceiling. I am looking down at my legs." does not sound like any OBE I've had. However, this sounds quite similar to the tunnel vision that I get when I get really severe migraines. Everything gets smaller, like you are looking at it from further away than you actually are.

Even if they were able to induce an OBE by stimulating the brain, that does not prove that OBE are figments of our minds. If the person that OBE'd through this method viewed a non-local event, then it would prove that there is something paranormal to OBEs.

I will not even say for certain that OBEs are not fully induced by the mind, as I have not been able to subjectively verify this to myself. But what I can tell you, is that it is a hell of a lot cooler than: "I am at the ceiling. I am looking down at my legs."

No seriously, has anyone ever had an astral boner?...

As for the question, I have been experimenting with this a little bit. I find that dreams are more vivid when I abstain and my likelyhood of having a lucid dream increases.

I have not been having any luck with conscious projecting either way right now.

Also, my girlfriend hates it when I abstain. For some reason, it doesn't bother her if we go a few days without sex. But as soon as I let her know that I am abstaining, she thinks its a challenge to break me or something.

A little advice guys. Nothing gets her hotter than telling her she can't have it.  :roll:

I have read that if you try to project with negative intentions, you will fail. I have also heard that if you attempt to spy (even inadvertently) while projecting, you may encounter a barrier that prevents you from reaching your intended target.

Personally, I would never try this and would hope that others share my ideology.

I'll be blunt. There may be something about your personallity that attracts this negative attention. This may have come about due to the bullying that you were inflicted with during your school years or this may have been part of your personallity before this and may have attracted the attention of the bullies to begin with.

I don't think that just attempting to think positive is going to be enough to change this about you. I'm not saying that it is bad advice, but that it is too easy to fall back into your old mindset.

Your brain is like a computer and life experiences are like programs that you put into this computer. You may have inadvertantly programmed your brain to take on a victim mentallity and this can be extraordinarilly difficult to break free from.

My suggestion would be to take a more proactive approach to changing this programming and start inputting a new program with more alpha-male type qualities (excuse this term).

First of all, you need to directly confront what has happened to you and really think about what it has made you feel. You need to accept this past as being a part of yourself and forgive yourself. I would also suggest that you attempt to forgive the people that did this to you. While this is not mandatory, there is a certain freedom that you will obtain from this and you may be able to more fully let it go.

Exericise. I would suggest martial arts, if this is available to you. Nothing will increase your confidence better than being able to physically defend yourself. However, any type of physical activity will not only increase your physical strength, but your emotional strength too. Exercise releases endorphins into your brain and creates a feeling of well-being. If you don't enjoy excercise, trust me, it will grow on you. You have to keep at it. Eventually, you will not be able to live without it. Again, it is about programming your brain. If you are still quite young, excericise can also make you more physically attractive too (and I'm sure I will get in trouble for saying this). It increases the amount of testosterone in your body which can actually help to develope your skeletal structure (most prominently, in your face).

Try to work on your sense of humour. Try to constantly think of funny things to say. This may be hard at first, but this can be learned. Almost everyone in the world enjoys being around someone who is funny (most of the ladies like it too). Not only that, but laughing is probably one of the best ways to decrease stress. A good sense of humour can also really help to diffuse tense situations.

Speaking of the ladies. They can smell a victim personallity from miles away. And let me tell you, they do not find it attractive.

Still, the most important thing you can do is to really look inside of yourself and ask yourself if there is anything that you don't like. Once you recognise the aspects about yourself that you don't like, you will be miles further towards changing yourself for the better. You can also be assured that the aspects you discover you don't like, will be the same aspects that may be keeping other people from attaching themselves to you.

I will also say (and this is only my opinion) that removing yourself from school may not have been the best idea. You could be running the risk of stunting your social developement. I have only met a few people that were home schooled, but there was a certain social inneptitude that caused me to eventually dislike almost all of them. And not one of them was socially gifted (Sorry to the other home-schooled out there. This is just my personal experience).

We all go through stages of bad luck. For some reason they seem to come and go in waves. However, it always seems like the littlest things that can turn the tide. If you are willing to really take reins and make a determined move towards bettering yourself, this may be all it takes to change your luck. Just remember to try and catch it every time you say something negative to yourself so that you can recognise when you may be going wrong and you can stop yourself from doing it.
