Hello NaCirema_NY:

What you expressed is what fundamentalist Christians believe about the afterlife. Keep in mind, most posters here are more metaphysically aware than that, and thus do not believe in a literal eternal hell, where Jesus Christ is damning souls forever.

The Bible itself states: "the Lord will not cast off forever, but though He cause grief, yet will He have compassion according to the multitude of His mercies." (Lamentations chapter 3). This is why most practicing Jews do not believe in eternal damnation. The Torah teaches no such thing, and the Psalmist states: "all the ends of the world shall Remember and turn to the Lord." This speaks of the Pre-existent Soul, and the return of the Prodigal to the Father's House.

Of course this does not neccesarily happen when we physically die. This why Jews and Esoteric Christians who study the Kabbalah, believe reincarnation is part of the process, in bringing all souls from the Alpha point of our Origin to the Omega of Completion. The Jewish Zohar, the most important esoteric book, to Orthodox Jews states:

"The souls must re-enter the Absolute substance, from whence they have emerged. But to accomplish this end they must develop all the perfections, the germ of which is planted in them; and if they have not fulfilled this condition during one life, they must commence another, a third, and so forth, until they have acquired the condition which fits them for reunion with God."

As to Astral Projection: the Zohar speaks about "out of body" experiences as a regular occurence. The Zohar states souls leave their bodies at night, and ascend to the Upper Worlds, to study the Torah's Mysteries. Keep in mind, Kabbalists understand the Soul is multidimensional and make a distinction between the temporal personalities we identify with in this life, and our Neshamah (Higher Self).

Since you come from a mainstream Christian background, like many of us do, you might be interested to know: Esoteric Christian groups, like the Rosicrucians, Gnostics, and Essenes, have a great awareness of the various planes and states that we encounter in the Afterlife Planes. And they understand there is a lot more going on than most people are aware of. Jesus himself is said to have only shared the "Mysteries of the Kingdom" with his inner-core, but spoke to the masses in exoteric parables.

The fact is, the Mysteries of the Kingdom of God and the true nature of consciousness is not perceived by the carnal mind, trapped in Maya (illusion).

All we experience is actually a radiant display of our own consciousness. This is a great mystery, as this physical and even the Astral world is perceived to be Real, but in reality, it is Maya (illusion).. infact, all this talk about leaving the bodies and death, is merely perception.

Our own Higher Self, our Neshamah, is not confined to this plane even now. And the knowledge of our Pre-existent Soul, is the basis of Self-Realization. Jesus Christ in the Gospel of St Thomas states: "when you come to know yourselves, than you will become Known.. but if you do not know yourselves you dwell in poverty, and it you who are that poverty."

The most important thing that the Ancient Initiates told us is to Know Thyself (Gnothi Seaton). Then and only then can the Prodigal have True Awareness of the multidimensional nature of creation and Self... and he can know beyond opinion and conjecture, what happens when the physical body dies.

As I understand it, the Astral Plane is just one place we move onto upon physical death. There are spiritual planes beyond and higher than the Astral Plane.. We progress to those planes as we are ready; or we reincarnate on the physical plane..

A lot can be learned from reading the amazing OBE experiences that people like Robert Bruce and Robert Monroe have had. Another interesting thing is to read many of the near death experiences that people have had.. a lot can be learned about the Afterlife from OBEs and NDEs..

Ultimately, the ancient admonition to "Know Thyself" answers our questions about the reality of life after death. Before we have understanding of ourselves as a spiritual being, we are just caught up with our physical identity, and we may even doubt the reality of an Afterlife. But as we learn about our spiritual bodies (which are just as real as our physical body) and planes of existence that lie beyond this 3rd dimensional reality, it becomes clear, that life does not end or begin here..

Is this the biggest metaphysical type discussion forum on the net? If not, what is? Just curious. I was searching for other boards like this on google but I couldn't find any that are that active. It's funny, because I saw huge boards for every other topic under the sun- but when it comes to the fascinating subjects that we discuss here, it's hard to find a place where a lot of people are discussing these things online.

I am unable to access the different sections here with IE. When I click on an individual forum this link automatically comes up:

http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/default.asp

I emailed Adrian a couple weeks ago about this problem, and he was unaware what was causing it. He said he had not heard of any others having this problem. Am I the only one who can't surf the board on IE?

Thankfully, I downloaded Netscape, and now I am able to read this board (which happens to be my favorite on the net) again. [8D]

I know many of us have seen the spirits of the dead while OOB, but I have never seen anyone that I know. Has anyone ever heard of anyone having contact with the spirit of someone who was  well-known while OOB? Like Abraham Lincoln, JFK, Marilyn Monroe, etc? Bob Hope's death today made me think of this.

Blaze, I've also had flying dreams, not too many and not nearly often enough! How do you feel when you wake up from those dreams?

It's quite a rapturous and dare I say "realistic" experience.. so some of the euphoria is still lingering when I first wake up. I can honestly say I know what it's like to fly, and it is awesome. Maybe that "quote" is true, and that's why the whole experience feels so familar to us.

I've noticed in several of these "flying dreams", I am being chased, and it's then, at will, I just fly away from whoever is chasing me. I guess if this is happening in the astral realm it is negs or astral beings who don't know who I am. Or maybe I am misperceiving them as "enemies" I need to flee from.

Interestingly enough, I believe Robert Bruce has written about people flying around the astral planes, that are not even aware they are OBE. They think they are dreaming. Maybe he has seen us. [8D]

I don't know, but I know I had many "flying" dreams as a child. These dreams always stood apart from my other dreams, because I actually felt like I was flying; and I always could fly at will. Could we actually be OBE in some of our so-called "flying dreams", and not aware of it?

I was not yet aware of what the OBE experience was when I had these dreams as a child - so wouldn't have classified them as OBEs or lucid dreams. Although I did have a spontaneous OBE at around 5, which was different than my flying dreams. I was floating above my bed, and *knew* I was actually out of my body. With these dreams I can't be *sure*. But then again, they say all/or most of us have OBEs when we sleep, and we just don't remember them. Maybe some of these flying dreams are blurred memories.

Thank you, Ybom. I appreciate all the links- I've had a tough time finding other astral discussion boards through google. You have given me a lot to look through.

Here is another I found:

Well, it could be the biggest board that discusses Astral Projection, but by far it's not the most relevant. I think I've been through this before...

Everyone has their own opinion and preferences, but what are some links to other good boards? I'd like to have all the good metaphysical type boards saved in my favorites.

Other than that my tastes run to Rock Opera.  If you can't figure out what that would be, the TransSiberian Orchestra's 'The Carol of the Bells' always plays during Christmas. The best CD that I've seen in a while is 'Luca Turilli-King Of The Nordic Twilight'.

Are you into Savatage? I think they fall into the operatic/symphonic metal genre. They are one of my favorite bands. Nightwish is another good band to check into long those lines. [8D]

This is still the best AP discussion forum that I know of. The only two other AP boards I know of are..

http://www.astralsociety.com/Forums/index.php

http://www.astralforum.com/phpBB2/index.php?sid=e78783d2f13efbf1cebd021616a228d7
(the popups on this board are unbearable)

Are there any other AP forums?

I'd like to have a listing of all such boards so I can always find something new to read. I have learned a lot on these boards.
