Hello everyone! This is Brian Mercer, co-author (with Robert Bruce) of Mastering Astral Projection.

I just posted an article on Robert's site that might interest you. It's called "Learning Astral Projection with the BrainWave Generator". In it I recount my first experience with the BrainWave Generator, how I developed the presets for Mastering Astral Projection, and a bit about the BrainWave Generator's free on-line preset library.

Even if your spiritual goals don't include OBE, there are other uses for the BWGen, such as healing, energy body and primary center stimulation, learning, lucid dreaming, etc.

The article can be found here: http://www.astraldynamics.com/library/?BoardID=30&BulletinID=422

Hello, All:

I'm presently co-authoring a book with Robert Bruce called "Mastering Astral Projection: A 90-Day Guide to and Out-of-body Experience".  This is based (very loosely) off the 90-day guide I developed, available for download on Robert's web site.

I'm currently working on the chapter on fears and wanted solicit your thoughts.  What fears do you have (or did you have) re: having and OBE?  I think we're addressing pretty much all of the common fears, but I wanted to get any idea of what your fears are (or were) to make sure we're not missing anything obvious.

So, describe your fears here.  No fear is too small or dumb.

I was hoping the experienced astral projectors on this forum can help me.  I am looking for examples of conscious exit OBEs (i.e. instances when people sat or laid down with the intent on astral projecting and then actually projected).

This is what I'd like to know:

1) Details of the method used (e.g. relaxation, mind taming, trance & exit technique, etc.)

2) What it felt like, sounded like, looked like to OBE this way.

3) A brief discription of what you did during the OBE.

Everything is on schedule.  Our editor is still working on the ms.  The sketches are taking a bit longer than expected, but it won't delay the book's release.  The number have pages have expanded slightly, from 480 to 502.  While I'm waiting to get the proofs from the publisher, I've been putting the final touches on the CD-ROM that will accompany the book.

MAP is going to be featured on the cover of New Worlds (I don't know when) with an article, which might be worth checking out.

I think the publisher, Llewellyn, will be shipping copies of the book to the Expo itself, where it will be for sale.  I think the official release is still November.  Does that make sense?

Thanks for the info; I'm so excited.  By advanced copies of the book, what do you mean?  Thanks.

Okay, this is the schedule for Mastering Astral Projection.  Our editor is sending us proofs at the end of June.  Robert and I have four weeks to put the finishing touches on them.  August 1 is our final day to turn it into the editor.  The plan is to release the book in November, with an official book launch in October at the ParaWorld Expo in Los Angeles, which both Robert and I will be attending.  Advanced copies will be available at the Expo.

I'm told that the schedule could change, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  The book is now available for pre-order at Amazon.com.

Take care,

Brian Mercer

The idea the title conveys is that the tools for mastering astral projection are contained within.  The second part of the title, "A 90-Guide to an Out-of-body Experience" specifies the goal of the program, to achieve an conscious exit projection in 90 days' time.

Tisha,

The chapter isn't on fears but how to overcome them.  The focus is on practical, hard-nosed techniques for addressing, mitigating or even eliminating fears.  I just didn't want to leaving anything out, hence my request to hear what people find intimidating about OBE.

Laying out fears for people, without giving them the tools to overcome them, would definitely be irresponsible.  The goal is for people to feel empowered after they're done reading your chapter on fears.  So test it on a few strangers before you publish it!

Thanks for doing this!

These are all great!  Keep them coming.

All of these so far I've covered or thought of covering, but in some cases I thought they might not be perfectly legitimate "fears" and was considering leaving a few out.  Your feedback has impressed me to cover them.  Definitely.

The trouble I find with addressing fears too thoroughly is that I'm concerned that I might be giving people more to think about/worry about than they might otherwise have had.  I had that experience the first time I read AD a few years ago.  That experience of, "Well, I *wasn't* afraid of that...  But I am now!"

Patty,

First, I have to say I read your post regarding your OBE where you tried to look at the cards.  Very cool.  (I'm sending you a person-to-person message about this through this forum, so look out for it.)

Did I think that that Mom encounter experience was a dream?  Well, despite the OBE-like qualities of the experience, as soon Mom spoke to me, I filed in the "Lucid Dream Experience" folder, since I could think of no other explanation for why it happened.

I'm like you, eager for more tangible evidence that this sort of experience is valid (though I certainly have had some).  What I'm finding is that the more experiences I have like this (none of them consciously induced, I'm afraid), the more they seem very real *at the time*, and only later do the memories of them seem wispy and dream-like.  That is the nature of shadow memory recall, I suppose.

I have experienced this melting hands phenomenon; a good acid test, I think.  Forgot all about it!

Thank you, Frank.  I guess my presumption was that you were in the "real-time" zone when you were in that men's club, only in the "past", if that makes any sense.  What you are saying is that you were in the astral and the other blokes were simply astral residents or people having an OBE or some such thing.

Here is a personal example of what I'm trying to reconcile.  I have an OBE early one night and transition to my parents house 900 mile away.  I see the house as it should be, without reality fluctuations, and there is my mother, puttering around the house as she often does at night.  But then she turns to me and reacts to my presence, as if I'm there *physically* and not astrally.

I've read other accounts by young projectors who leave their body, move out of their bedroom and down the hall, only to see their father or mother pass by and say "hello" to them.

In this case, are we in some kind of real-time zone copy?  This is what confuses me.

Re: dream elements imposing themselves on the projection experience, how does one practice keeping calm?  Is it simply a matter of meditation practice?

I've experienced some of that "mind-to-mind" communication in the astral and it is a pretty powerful experience.  I just recently got over on such experience with a female friend that took place about 15 years ago.  Wow, wouldn't I like to do *that* again!

I hope you can answer my question, Frank.

After years and years of reading accounts of real-time and astral projections (and having had some personal experiences like this myself), I wonder if you can explain this situation:

Someone goes OBE.  Everything about the projection seems valid and "real", but then someone in the locale to which the OBE'er is projecting begins to talk to the projectee.  In the example of your original post, you recount talking to folks in this British men's club even though you (I would think) have no body for people to see nor lips from which to speak.

I've had experiences in which everything about my projection experience seemed like a valid OBE and then someone who I wouldn't think could see me, strikes up a conversation.

Even stranger I find that, as common as this experience is in reading OBE accounts, no one seems to questions why this is.

Do you have any thoughts on this?

Brian

I actually KNOW Hank Wesselman, indirectly.  Those that are close to him report that, while he might have had an experience or two, he's in it for the $$$ and the lecture circuit.

The first story rings of fear-based, fundamentalist propaganda (i.e. a little fear sermon to keep the lambs on the path).

If your friend were to accept the first account, then it would likely color his beliefs regarding the NDE.  Maybe the old man in the NDE was a helpful guide or a passed relative not recognized.  Viewed with his devil belief system, it might tend to color what he experienced and an opportunity for learning is lost.

Excellent thoughts, Chris.  One last question:  How long does your meditation technique take on average?

#16
Thanks for the info, Chris.  It was great.  I am always fascinated by your experiences.  In what part of town do (did) you practice martial arts?

The question to learning focus his how to make it progressive enough and interesting enough to keep at it?

Your meditation exercise seems very powerful.  I, too, have noticed a correlation between storing energy and OBEs.  There must be something to that.  I suppose it follows that the more energy one has available, the more likely one would be able to OBE.  The key after that is simply remembering it!

Chris, I don't know if you remember me.  We had some discussions on the old forum.  I, too, live in Seattle.

I was wondering if it would be possible for you to mention here your meditation routine and how it has changed and evolved over the years.

Adrian,

I've been doing serious meditation now for about the last 3 1/2 years.  I read astral dynamics quite a while back and integrated some of the excellent techniques into my own system.  I have been a regular poster on the old forum for a couple years now under the same name Chris.  I've shared many of my techniques and thoughts and will continue to do so.  Achieving OBE is pretty second nature to me now, although I purposely don't do it more than once or twice a week since I noticed that projecting the energy body too frequently causes my physical body to become sick.

What I continually attempt to refine is my level of control during meditation and OBE.  I have identified some very key principles (that work for me at least).  However, a lot of the control issues tend to be things I would classify in the area of "feel".  It's like teaching someone to drive a car.  You can show them the principles and they can take a class and they can watch you do it, but in the end they just need to develop their own "feel" for the clutch and steering wheel etc... and every car has it's own "feel"... it's very difficult to convey "feel".  That is where the true mastery in most things lie.

Later when I get some more time, I'll attempt to describe some my "feel" to the best degree I can.  Just don't expect to understand it.  Some will, some won't.

Chris
