so theres nothing u really did differently? My first seemed to be the clearest/more memorable. Also I have yet to have a "system" to successfully have an OBE. The few times Ive had them I wasent really trying to. When I try I tend to just fall asleep or have insomnia. My last obe (last night) seemed more odd than the first. It seemed like there were a bunch of people in my house and there were some christmas like lights in my living room with the TV on.

I posted my first OBE experience on here before and it was very realistic, clear, etc. I had multiple last night, probly 4 or so, but very short and vague. I would get up and everything wasent as clear to me and it seemed like I was only up breifly before getting sucked back into my physical self where I would then exit again. This happened a few times. I even tried saying to myself "clearity" and "awareness" and it didnt seem to work. I also tried to travel to my sisters place (another state). I closed my eyes and imagined I was there but when I opened them I was still at my house. Any inut, tips, suggestions?

Another thing, what the difference between what I experienced and astral projection?

well as I stated earlier there were 2 pieces of paper on my front door the next day although during my OBE they looked different and were on the inside of the door. I talked with my roomate and he said he awoke abruptly around 1am. When I first separated I disturbed him and it was around that time.

thanks for the response. Do you have any input on what I experienced means? One thing I noticed today on my front door were 2 paper advertisements. During my OBE there were 2 pieces of paper on the inside of my door. Im not sure if there was a relation to that or not. Also I disturbed my roomate when he was sleeping during OBE and he told me today he woke up last night and had a hard time going back to sleep. I was under the assumption that OBEs were almost in real time. What I experienced outside seemed to be different than reality. Any tips on how to move faster?

One other thing I noticed was during the vibrational state it felt as if my teeth were clinched down super tight almost grinding.

Here are my first two threads giving a background on me.

So I came across AP and OBE from researching about the sleep paralysis I get once in a while. Anyways the threads I posted above show my first two psuedo experiences. Last night I went to bed I was very tired. I tried to focus when laying in bed but have never felt the vibrations when first initially going to bed. In the middle of the night I "awoke" into sleep paralysis. The first time this happened I didnt know what was happening and felt extremely scared. I felt as if I was dying. Luckily I havent experienced what many other people have during SP such as hallucinations, demons, nightmares, etc.

So as I layed there the vibrations came in waves. I knew what was happening so I thought to myself I would try to leave my body. It seemed the more I focused on it the harder it was so I kind of just layed there and focused on the vibrations. The next thing I noticed was music. It was so clear it felt as if I had headphones on and it wasent really a song that I knew, although I did recognize it. It felt so real. Its hard to explain so Ill try my best. Think as if u never heard a song before, u cant really predict what youll hear next because it is new to u. Although I recognized the song I did not know it well enough to predict what was coming next but it was clear as anything as if I was really listening to it conciouslly (sp).

So finally I felt as if I was separating from my body. I was having a hard to getting out. Felt like my arms first then I really had to struggle to get loose but when I did the music went away, but not completely. I could still hear it as if someone was next to me with headphones on. I then walked through my door into the hallway into my roomates room where I tried to wake him. He awoke and then what seemed to be greeting me as if we havent seen each other in a long time. After this I lost concentration and ende up back in my body....

I once again went through the vibrations and left my body. I went to my front door (from the inside) and saw a package in front of it and two pieces of paper taped to the door, one white and one yellow. I found it odd since it was on the inside and not the oitside. I then walked through the front door outside. I noticed the night sky had a lot more stars than usual and it seemed more special effects like. There as someone in my driveway dribling a basketball and didnt pay any attention to me. I was so aware that I thought that this person was in reality in my driveway and they were for some reason about to break into my house so I looked at the license plate of his truck parked in front of my house and it read 6TGE something. I then wanted to go elsewhere and began to fly out of the neighborhood but was going very slow. It seemed as if I couldnt control my speed. I wanted to go faster but couldnt. The area outside my neighborhood was not how it is in reality. Seemed like a larger city that was more futuristic. There was large TVs along side the main road. Think the Vegas strip. I think I then lost concentration and ended up back in bed. I felt nervous since I though someone was in my driveway so I came too and it was 1:30am. I had only been asleep for maybe an hour. I had a hard time going back to sleep. I almost had the feeling of an adrenaline rush.

So my questions are do u guys think this was an actual OBE? It felt very real and I was fully aware of what was going on. The only part of me that thinks it was a dream was that a lot of things were different from reality. Im still pretty oblivious to these things and I think that me having an issue with sleep paralysis almost gave me a shotcut to have an OBE. So yes, Im not really educated on the subject. Any input/opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

ok cool. Yea I am very new to this and that was maybe the 3rd or 4th time I came across that kind of experience. I have had sleep paralysis before and thats how I came across the subject of AP. I still dont really have any idea what Im doing but I seem to be progressing. Another question....Since it is usually night time when your asleep does that mean when u project it will be night as well?

thanks guys. So when u say focus on separating would u just try to imagine yourself pulling away from your body? When my leg moved shortly after I for some reason felt like repositioning it and when I did I abruptly felt I was back in my physical body but my leg was where it was, never moved. It literally felt like someone was pulling my leg. So would u guys say I should try to focus on letting it move more and more? What do I do as far as visuals? Keep eyes closed and focus on the darkness?

Im sure thre are a lot of posts like this so Ill try not to drag it on for too long. Anyways, I was out of town with my sister, nephew and bro in law. We stayed at a hotel. I was having a hard time sleeping since the baby was always waking up crying. Anyways I woke up in the middle of the night and without much focus (I was very tired and pretty much half asleep) I was feeling vibrations and almost a ringing/buzzing. I have had sleep paralysis before and I remember getting a very scared feeling come over me in prior experiences. I felt like I could almost control it. I tried to stay as calm as possible. My whole body felt paralyzed. I could open up my eyes and look around as well as hearing my sister talking in the other room. I tried not to fight it. I also felt as if my leg was almost being pulled to one side and although my mouth wasent open for some reason it felt like it was. The vibrations/buzzing came and left multiple times. I didnt know where to go really from there. I eventually fell asleep.

Input?

I have two potential explanations for the heart beat.  It could be an energy surge.  I was talking to my boss the other day who is a psychic medium and he said that Astral Projection and the nervous system are very closely intertwined.  It's not unusual then to experience strong energy surges (and while the heart is a part of the circulatory system, the majority of it is made out of neural cells, which means it is also a part of the CNS, like the brain and spinal cord) that manifest as rapid heart beat, surge up the spine, or even rapid fluttering of your eyelids.  From my experience these sensations are not happening in your physical body.  I recorded myself on video about a year ago when i was just getting back into AP practice and still experienced those sensations.  I felt like my whole body was pounding with my heart and that my eyelids were fluttering open and closed but on video I was sitting perfectly still.  Strange.

The other explanation is that when you're in this kind of "trance" state your body is "quieter" and you can hear your normal heartbeat.  Actually, in the book "Projection of the Astral Body" by Sylvan Muldoon, there is a technique for projection that involves quieting your mind and body and listening/feeling for you heart beat/pulse in different places in your body (ears, feet, neck, etc.).

I recommend attempting a conscious exit either right after you wake up naturally (not from an alarm clock) or in the afternoon after you've been doing stuff all day.  Those are my favorite times, when I have the most success.

Here is my post on my projection method, give it a try:

thanks personalreality. I was considering buying journey out of the body by robert monroe as well as astral dynamics by robert bruce. Do u think these two books are worth starting out on or are their better choices?
#14
really? I hear people suggesting those 2 books then others saying to pass them up. Not sure who to listen to.
#15
thanks guys
#16
so journey outside the body would not be a good first choice? Im also looking at astral dynamics by robert bruce.
#17
this thread seemed to get a little off track. Is anyone able to guide me in the right direction.
#18
there a reason why that book is over 90 bucks? All his others are under 20.

Journeys Out of the Body

Ultimate Journey

Im not sure what the difference between these two are and whats the better choice. Anyone?

Dear s_man_09,

In my opinion Robert Bruce's book Astral Dynamics has by far the most productive collection of technniques and exercises and preparations I've seen in a book so far.
The theoretical parts are seperate from the practical parts and can be skipped if desired. The book can be read out of order.

kind regards,

Paul

Thanks Paul, I really appreciate the response. Its confusing when u experience something like that and have no idea what to think.

So I came across AP after having a couple sleep paralysis episodes. Seems like that can be a close step to AP. The first episode I had was probly a year and a half ago in the middle of the night. I thought I was having some sort of anxiety attack. I was laying in bed kind of half asleep when I could start really hearing my heart beat, almost as if it were pounding out of my chest. Then I heard what everyone seems to say is a buzzing sound. At that point I was awake looking up at my ceiling with my whole body paralyzed and unable to speak, only moan. Its was a very scary experience as I also had an overwhelming sense of hooror/fear come over me. Lets fast forward a bit....

about 3 weeks ago I had a similar experience. I was laying in bed in the afternoon prior to going to the gym. I just felt slightly tired. I ended up falling asleep. I then had a very similar buzzing/vibrating sensation come over me and felt like my eyes were being forced closed like a curtain. I was on my side at the time and for some reason I naturally wanted to fight it. It happend maybe twice. This got me curious to do some research and now Im here. Ive been doing some reading and have attempted to get into a similar state of relaxation but with no luck. For some reason late at night before going to bed I get paranoid and almost am afraid to try it, might be some of the vids, articles Im reading online. Ive tried 3 or so times during the day with not much luck. The furthest I go is really feeling the heartbeat to where it almost feels like it moves me but then I either get distracted or fall asleep.

So, I was wondering if anyone could give me some guidence as to what to do or maybe direct me to some helpful articles. This subject has really intrigued me and am anxious to have my first real AP experience. Thanks!
