Gotcha...Yes, the practice itself of trying to achieve something always contains the lesson too!

You will get there.  Reading Buhlman's books are what inspired me and now it's happening on the regular.

What I know of Chi is that it's just another word for energy, so I would assume any type of energy work (Chi gong, reiki, tai -chi, etc) might help you get more in touch with that energy.  As far as it helping you to project, I think maybe it could help increase your overall AWARENESS, which is really what we are all trying to do here.  Meditation, breathing, yoga and all practices that teach awareness I can imagine are helpful along the path.  Because that is why we are here, right? To understand our true Self..

Personalreality, may I ask why that is "bad news?"

I do agree that everyone is different and each person needs to test themselves.  I definitely can relate to how Mindfulness is feeling just starting out...it seems like there are so many methods, how do you know?  Ask your Higher Self and see what happens I guess  :-)

Proving something to anyone else is irrelevant and most of the time, pointless in my opinion.  The knowing comes from experience and being open minded to what you see.  Also, remember that your MIND is not your brain, and is what creates your experiences to what you need to learn.  These other realities are as real as the physical, in the sense that they are all projections from the collective mind. This isn't really "real" either

Hello! I too read Buhlman's books and gained a lot from them.  Here is how it worked for me - I tried a lot of the techniques and started to get frustrated...so I stopped trying and just held an intention that it would happen.  Low and behold, I find myself floating out of my body one night!  I was rather caught up in the whole process of "doing" something.  Anyway, since that I have managed a few other experiences (I am new to the world of OBEs but learning fast.)

I find that the BEST time for me to have a projection is either at night when I have already woken from a sleep cycle, or after a nap.  The time when you are not exhausted tired and don't just pass out into deep sleep instantly.

Here is my most recent tale -

For example, the other day I was recovering from a flu, and decided to take a nap around 4 in the afternoon.  I woke again around 6, and was still sleepy and decided to close my eyes.  after a few minutes I felt my mind still being awake, but my body was tingling with energy.  that's where the fun started...i felt myself sink into the bed, then rise back up and float "halfway" out...I went back and forth a few times and then said "clarity now" like Buhlman suggests, and was impressed to be "seeing" without my eyes. I was halfway out of my body and touched my physical arm with my astral arm and was impressed to see it go through! I never really got out of my room that day and eventually just woke up, but it really affirmed that "space" you get in which is perfect for OBE/AP.

Try taking a nap, and then once you wake up and are still sleepy, affirm that your mind will stay awake and let your body drift back off again.  That's where the majic happens!

Also, dream conversion seems really cool too...I am working on some techniques to do more lucid dreaming.  Once you become lucid in a dream, just say "awareness now" and wait and see where you go :) Happy travels!

My player DOES loop them, but the problem is they start out faster and then move to that slow, slow drone...which always wakes me up! its like, if Im not in a trance in less than 30 minutes, I'm awakened again ;) a

The issue I have with them is they are not long enough...I worry the whole time about the end of the beat and then being taken out of my trance state! I need one long binaural beat drone that goes for hours I think. Too bad the ones I have are only 30 minutes!

I definitely have been taken to a trance state while using them, but I did not get deep enough I don't think. I've kind of put them on the shelf for now.

interesting! the experience I had last week with a dream conversion was pretty cool, I have been hoping to have another really soon. Unlike you I came out of the lucid dream and into my room, but was floating over my body already so I didn't have to separate. I feel like I have the most lucid dreams when I am having "trouble" falling asleep or in the early morning before getting up.

On that note, anyone ever try using those lucid dream masks and had any results?  I am curious.

Maybe you met the Arcturians  :-P

http://www.floating-world.org/Arcturians.htm

I can't say I have personally met any ET beings, but I certainly would not be surprised if I did!! It is one of my intentions in astral travel to do so.

I am of the opinion that ET are already with us and have been for a long time, so it makes sense that you might encounter them in Astral travels.  As far as seeing what you want to see, I think we see what we NEED to see.  We are guided by our higher selves and in the dream and astral non-physical, and things manifest in appropriate ways to teach us things.  I have dreamed of aliens, UFOS, stargate portals and other beings before, even in last week's dream conversion I saw UFOs.  I had night terrors for years where I encountered shadow beings in my room at night and outside of the house.  They are pretty real to me.  However, the scuzzy lower vibrational entities don't seem to mess with me anymore, and I am coming in tune with the reality of higher dimensional ET that are here to help us.  It's exciting times.  Either way, we are in for some giant leaps in awareness.  I feel myself like my awareness is on a bell curve these days.  Everything seems to be tying together!

I would ask for more experiences with the ETs and see what you get.  I find that you pretty much get what you ask for :)

I LOVE Tom Campbell's work and am on book two of the big TOE series.  I have also watched a bunch of his lectures and I think he's the bees knees ;)  He really has a way of scientifically explaining the stuff science ignores.  I feel like mainstream science has gone the dogmatic way of religion these days, so a mind like Tom's is so refreshing.  I agree with Xanth and highly recommend his material.  The work he and Monroe were doing was the most "scientific" research done about the non-physical.  That is what lead me to wanting to do my own adventures.

So last night I had my first semi-successful dream conversion! It did not last long but I have a few questions to anyone who does this on a regular basis.  Here is what happened:

I went to sleep for about 4 hours and woke up at 4am.  I had been in a pretty deep sleep, no real clarity or dreams I could remember.  I made an intention to stay aware in my dreams as I feel back asleep.

I started to dream and weird things were happening off the bat. I was at my parents house and I saw my deceased dog as a puppy...my folks were watching a game of golf on tv (they don't watch golf) and suddenly I was inside the golf game myself! then I was swimming in a lake by the golf course with my boyfriend, and all of a sudden the water started churning with big waves.  We swam to the shore and watched the lake's massive waves and all of a sudden it hit me - duh, I'm dreaming. Well, now that I'm aware, let's get to projecting!

I think "awareness now" and suddenly I am floating out over my body in bed, then sinking through the floor.  Everything is fuzzy, heavy and dark.  After several firm thoughts of "clarity" and "awareness" and "I am light as a feather" I move to another reality frame.   At this point I find myself sitting in a room with a bed, and an astral (non physical) friend next to me.  She seems like I know her so I am not really concerned with her, but I look out the window and gasp when I see a UFO full of beings staring right at me! This startles me and I begin to doubt the situation and begin to lose awareness of my control over it.  This is the point I need to work on I think. Anyway, I faded back into a dream mode, where I was dreaming but unaware again, before I woke up.

Does anyone have any tips on maintaining awareness throughout a projection when it feels like it's fading?  I think I must either doubt myself, or somehow get too distracted to focus and control the situation.

I am stoked about dream conversion though - it seems like a perfect method of exploration for me :-)

Thanks all!

I felt in the same boat for the past few months! I stopped trying anything and then it finally happened. (you can read about it in the "OBE or a dream" post down the way a bit) Sometimes if you stop trying and let go things happen.  I was getting all tripped up in having to "do" something exact I think, and was holding myself back because I was not having the same results as everyone else. I was expecting it to be much harder than it actually was! I have had random OBEs since I was a teenager that turned into night terrors because I was confused as to what was happening and got scared. Once I found out about OBEs I was really excited. Learning to control them and actually consciously have them became a battle though, and it wasn't until I said "oh well, it'll happen when I'm ready" that it occurred.

I fully believe that if it's your intention to have that experience, it will happen. It just has to.  Good luck!

Thanks! I am happy to be here. Looking forward to hearing everyone's opinions and sharing more experiences as they come

Thanks for the input Xanth!! I am excited because I feel like I am FINALLY getting to the point where I can really start controlling these experiences.  I would have to say that this was definitely an astral awareness situation because I was fully aware and trying to control myself. I knew my body was asleep but my non-physical mind was not.  However, since it was my first time I was kind of all over the place ;)

This is truly an exciting day for me because I feel like I finally "broke the seal" and am being prepped for some awesome adventures.  Oh yeah one other thing - I felt like someone was there helping me out of my body but I couldn't see them? I look forward to meeting my guides soon :)

Hello all! I have been reading this forum for a while but this is my first post :)  I am new to the world of self-induced OBEs, but have been researching them and practicing some of the techniques for the last month or so.  Anyway, I had an experience last night and I was unsure if it was an OBE or just a lucid dream...here goes.

So I went to sleep after midnight but was having trouble falling asleep and relaxing, it took me about an hour before I finally started to doze off. I was not doing any practices at the time, just trying to get some sleep. The next thing I know, everything seems really dark but I am aware I am in my bed and my body is asleep. No weird sounds or strange vibrations though, maybe just a tingle of energy. I ask for awareness and all of a sudden, I feel like I am floating above my body! "Oh my god it's finally happening" I think and get excited.  I feel myself come back down from floating, but then I remember to try some techniques that I read about.  I then tell myself to roll out of my body, and it works! I feel like I am floating down through the floor into the living room below.  Everything is really dark.  I see some physical items through the darkness and try to move them but I can't really grasp anything.  I know my boyfriend is on the couch but I can't really see what he's doing and he does not see me.  I then decide that I want to go outside and try flying...However, when I get to the door I have trouble going through it.  Eventually, i sort of phase through it and am on the front door stoop, and remember the higher self technique, who doesn't want to see their higher self?  So I ask to and nothing really happens, but then I find myself  back in the bedroom.  I realize "wow - I just had an OBE" and try to run downstairs to tell my boyfriend.  Then I just wake up. It's about 2 am at this time.

I find myself wondering if this was a dream because there was no real clarity and control, I was all over the place.  However I was definitely lucid and trying to control it.  I also did not have any pre OBE vibrations or the sensation of being tugged back into the body.  Any thoughts would be great! I am excited because the actual experience of floating out of m body was very real, as was rolling out and sinking through the floor.

Thanks everyone! Nice to meet all of you!
