Welcome to Book Reviews! / Insomnia

I agree wholeheartedly. (Well, how could I not :-))

BTW, I think Stephen King must have quite some interest for AP himself. It doesn't play a major role in his books (except Insomnia), but is mentioned once or twice in almost every King book I've read.

As I wrote in the Energy Body forum, the program is still there, but obviously no longer as an XLS:

http://www.astraldynamics.com/search.asp?Search=schedule&Type=1&ReferenceID=265

However if you're really interested, I'd also suggest you get the book - it's really great (it also seems to be a psychological thing somehow - I couldn't motivate myself to follow that excel file for 91 days, but I got no motivation problems with that big, heavy, red book in my shelf :-))

You could get "Mastering Astral Projection", which is a great training book in which the Astral Dynamics techniques (and some new) are applied during a 90-day course. Or you download Brian Mercer's "Astral Dynamics Workbook" Excel file for free from this site to get a basic idea, if you do not want to buy another book just for the training timeline. Basically it's the first 6 weeks about learning NEW and the core skills (Astral Dynamics Part 1-3) and the next 7 weeks for applying those skills in projection attempts (AD Part 4ff).

"Do you really expect an author to suggest going and getting someone else's books? "

Well, actually Robert and Brian do just that - MAP contains a large "Supplementary Reading List".
#6
"I'm starting to think this whole forum is a way for you to boost your book sales"

What a joke. Nobody writes OBE books for sales - they only have a very small "target audience". If an OBE book sells some 1000 copies around the globe, that's already a very successful one.

It's the joint where the thumb joins the hand. "Top" means the side of the back of the hand (not the side of the palm). In Astral Dynamics it's explained well, there's even an illustration.

Hello all,

I wonder what you all think is so "dated" about Monroe's early "locales" concept. It's exactly what one discovers when projecting. It's even consistent with Robert Bruce's work - Locale 1 is the real time zone, Locale 2 the astral plane (even if we still don't know what that Locale 3 was :-)). As far as I understand the Focus Levels, they are not "replacing" the Locales, but a completely different thing - Locales and Focus Levels are two different methods of navigation OOB, the Locales applying more to the "classical" types of projection, the Focus levels applying more to the "phasing" types. However I wouldn't go as far as saying that one of them is more valid than the other.

I'm currently giving Robert Monroe's first book a re-read (as supplementary material to MAP :-)) and am now wondering what became of the strange world that Monroe described as Locale 3 - you know, the part where he rotated 180°, and a hole opened in the wall, then when he reached inside and hands were shaking his, and finally he got into this near-physical world with scientific development different to ours, where he even temporarily inhabited the body of his "I-There".

Now I understand that he replaced his concept of Locale 1, 2, 3 by his "Focus Levels" later, but I wondered if he did later research on this strange Locale 3 and found out more about it - if it was another time on Earth, just another astral realm, or even physical life elsewhere in the universe, or whatever. After all, his Locale 3 experiences in the book are from the early 60s, so he likely found more about it in the next 30 years. Does anyone know more about it (or even experienced it yourself)?

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / GOOD BOOKS?

You definitely need "Astral Dynamics" by Robert Bruce.

If you want a detailed training programme, also get "Mastering Astral Projection" by Robert Bruce and Brian Mercer.

The books by Robert A. Monroe are also a "must read" (for starting OBEers especially the first one "Journeys out of the body"), as is the classic "The Projection of the Astral Body" by Sylvan Muldoon and Hereward Carrington.

Another two books I'd recommend are "Out of body experiences" by Robert Peterson and "Out of body" by William Buhlman.

Rename the preset you want to use to "default.bwg" or "presets.bwg" in your BWG folder (keep the old one as backup), then start BWG and you should be able to use the preset.

I've had about 30 spontaneous real-time OBEs (unfortunately the last one over a year ago :-( ), and yes, the cord was there almost everytime. Most of the times I could only feel it, as there were always visual problems (it always extended out of my astral neck), but 2-3 times I could also see it. It was white and faintly glowing. On the one and only occasion when I could see my physical body, the cord entered it somewhere between neck and chest.

The CD does not contain MP3/WAV versions of the BWGEN presets, but BWGEN has an option to create them (you just enter how many minutes you want, and a WAV is created).

I've got some mixed feelings about it ... I really liked the first part where Buhlman describes his first OBEs and further experiences. The middle part where he explains all these quantum-physics topics seemed interesting, but a bit lengthy at times. It also gets quite repetitive (anyone counted the occurences of the term "multidimensional universe" in the whole book?). The final part with all the techniques is rather good again.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, so I greet all the nice people here [:D]

I've read "Astral Dynamics", enjoyed it a lot and practiced the NEW system for some weeks. I was amazed as it gave me a series of OOBEs and LDs for 3 days immediately after starting. However, now I'm kinda stuck with the secondary system full body circuit. My problem is the synchronisation with the breath. I do not seem able to raise energy as quick as it's supposed to. Either, if I try to keep up with my breath, it seems to me that the energy raising is getting too sloppy and in fact there isn't anything raised at all. On the other side, if I take the time I need (15-20 seconds for the UP sweep) and really feel it moving, I can't breathe so slowly. So what should I do about it? I guess it's more important to concentrate on the actual energy raising action and not on the breathing. Should I drop the breathing part of the technique at all until I gain some experience and can do quicker upward sweeping, or rather keep trying the best I can, with the risk of losing some effectiveness of the sweeping when doing it too fast?
#16
That's right, and that's also my greatest problem with the rope technique - I can easily "feel" my hands grabbing the rope, but I can't feel myself moving up quite well. Sometimes I think I've got the hang out of it - I've already felt some pre-OBE sensations in such moments - but then it's away and gone again :(

#17
Where did you read about that chakra closing? In everything I've read by Robert Bruce, he states that you can't close a chakra by any closing action (since every kind of stimulation rather opens them), and the best way to cause energy movements to cease is just to stop any stimulation.
#18
Well, let's say if your energy body was a car, the storage centers would be the battery, and the primary centers / chakras would be the engine :)
#19
@ Thanatos:

How can you draw the conclusion that OBEs originate in the brain from the fact that they can be achieved by electrically stimulating the brain? When applying this kind of logic, you'd also have to believe that your TV programmes come from inside your TV - after all you can change them by stimulating your TV with infrared :)
#20
As far as I can tell, you are doing everything correctly. For me it usually takes much longer to get "the feeling" in the subnavel storage center than in the legs and arms - about half an hour of energy raising. The "stomach wind" ... yes, that feels like gas, like if you have eaten too much onions or garlic :-) There are also some other feelings I encounter while raising energy: the first is a throbbing sensation in the subnavel area (sometimes I even feel it physically throbbing when I touch the skin). The other is the energy flow continuing on its own after I stop the sweeping action. This are no longer distinct sweeps, but a continual flow of energy, which lasts for about a minute after I have stopped the sweeping. Then I only have to do a few sweeps to start it again, which is very useful for longer sessions.
#21
And what exactly is your point?

Just found a small chapter in "Astral Dynamics" about the crown chakra and headaches: "Tight Band around Head ... This feels much like a leather belt tied around the head being slowly tightened. Pressure is felt around the entire circumference of the head, in a wide band level with the brow, and all over the whole top of the head, including the whole forehead, as if the whole head were bandaged too tightly. This top-of-head pressure sensation is caused by crown center activity ... Although this is rare, it can spark strong headaches, even migraines if you are prone to them."

... and BTW, you really don't have to worry that your expanded third eye will show up on a x-ray or MRT as a tumor, since it is nonphysical :-)
#23
I wouldn't worry too much about this, b/c I think a brain tumor causes much more severe symptoms like some energy movement sensations, also some that doesn't have to do with headache (nausea, distortions of the physical senses like problems with seeing, hearing, ...) Also energy movement sensations should appear mostly during exercises, while a brain tumor would not time its symptoms after your energy exercises.
#24
I experience this "helmet feeling" very often during my AP attempts, and I believe it comes from my crown chakra when it's activated. However I've never experienced a headache as a result of this (but I've also never made any energy body exercises while being ill).

In his "Treatise to OBE" which is available for download somewhere on this site (and which is still a great read even if you've read Astral Dynamics) Bruce recommends 7 sweeps to the base center and 3 to all other centers, that is, however, if you're in the trance state (which makes working on the primary centers much more effective).
