I cannot reply to a post.  It just takes me back to the main page?  The same thing happened a couple of times when I tried to go to pg. 2 of a post.  Help, please!  Thanks!

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Almost Made It

I have always had very lucid dreams and almost naturally felt the sensations that I have read about OOBE.  About 10-15 years ago, after reading about it or hearing something on tv, I decided to try.  I was alone, lying on the floor and I began to relax my body, which comes pretty easy for me. I was turning my focus inward toward myself, at the blackness behind my closed eyelids. The room contained a floor to ceiling bookcase.  I realized at some point I was looking at the books, then I realized I was looking at the top shelf -- I was up in the air. I don't remember the separation, just looking at the books.  Unfortunately, that was it, I think I got scared and went right back to my body.

So I've gone a very long time without trying this again.  A few months ago, I began studying my dreams, OOBE's, etc.  Then, recently I felt the need to try to reach a good friend of mine who lives far away.  I thought maybe I could find and comfort this person through OOBE.  I'm interested in everyone's thoughts about this?  Is it possible?  Does it create too much distraction to try to concentrate on going to specific places/people?

Anyway, this is what has happened so far:
Wednesday night, I actually completely relaxed myself 3 times, the first 2 I did get distracted but felt myself getting close, saw some of those little visions. The 3rd time I really felt it, felt the vibrations, I was aware, but I felt everything around me disappear for a minute.  Then it felt like my head/chest was moving down and I could feel another part of me lifting out of my body.  Of course, the phone rang...right at that moment. My body jerked awake when I heard it...like I had been asleep, but I was not asleep. I was a bit ticked off about the phone, I was so close, I was going to try again. Then I just ended up falling asleep. I can't exactly put my finger on the dreams...but I did really feel like it all continued, like I was traveling about. (And yes, now I make sure the ringer is off).

Last night, I felt the vibrations, but did not feel that chest push.  What I did feel was my fingers flexing, and my foot kicking up.  I knew my physical body did not move, so I am assuming I was trying to separate.  I think it surprised me though, so when I was thinking about that movement – I lost my concentration.  Then, once again, just fell asleep.

I found a lot of good information on this site, but am still interested in your thoughts on my earlier questions as well as any advice about completing separation, etc.

Well, I did it...not for long, but I did it. I sat up on the side of the bed. I actually felt myself pulling away, but I had to struggle a little. My upper body was fine, but my lower legs felt like they were stuck for a second. Then I pulled them around and sat up on the bed. I looked back and saw me lying there. I guess that's what pulled me back, but I wasn't really afraid because as soon as it started happening I knew what was going on. Then I was back in bed, awake and pretty excited about what had happened. It's given me a bit of confidence and I think it's going to be easier now because I know I can do it and I kind of know what feelings to expect.  Wish me luck!

Well, from my experience, the spontaneous jerking is NOT the vibrations, nor are they a separation reflex.  Instead, it's just your body spasming out a little bit....much like your eyes will flicker after going into a deep trance (REM stuff).

I don't think I explained this correctly - while I feel the jerks, my body does not actally move - that is what caused me to lose focus because I realized I felt my hand and foot, but they had not moved - they were in the exact same position as when I began to relax.
quote:
Whenever my body does one of those jerks, I try not to give it more than a seconds thought, or else it will distract me from my goal to project.

Yes, I realize that now and in the future that is the way I will approach them.
quote:
The vibrations which you're seeking are more subtle, and usually creep up on you.  That is, if you're projecting from a fully conscious state.  Otherwise, if you suddenly wake up from sleep with full-on vibrations, it can be more abrupt and violent.

I am sure I have felt these on several occasions, it was just that the other night, after i began feeling them - I was shortly distracted by the perceived movement in my body.
I have some alone time coming up this week, so hopefully it will give me a chance to truly relax and work on this. I'll just keep trying and see what happens...Hopefully a good OOB experience.

Thanks for your response, Jeff.  I had trouble with the board the other day and could not reply.  I had a very interesting weekend, though.

I seem to be able to relax, get the vibrations (I also feel heat - pretty intense, but doesn't burn).  Then I feel parts of my body jerk.  Would these be more intense vibrations - or actually trying to separate? I think I'm still getting distracted by those - it tends to focus me back on my physical body.

As to what I asked you about contacting someone, yes, it is someone I know personally and a very interesting thing happened with that.  I was trying to OOBE, ended up falling asleep. At some point while dreaming, I felt like I contacted him.  It went from a vivid dream to a lucid, but dark and blurry vision of me looking at him -- then making myself look at his face to be sure this was who it was. After a moment, it went back to my vivid dream.  I just felt like I was out of body briefly, looking at this person.

Odd, today I can reply.  I was able to start threads , but then could not reply to it - it wasn't locked.  Seems like all is okay now.  Just one of those strange things I guess.

Thanks for your replies!
