Im wondering if others are having similar experiences. Im new to all of this and in a previous post described my 'spontaneous' first 'encounter?' with what I think was the beginning of an OBE exit. I have read (and am re-reading) Robert Bruce's piece and got a couple of books from the library (Monroe in particular). Its all been very informative and helpful.

However Im at a point where I only seem to get results at night before sleep or early morning when waking up and I think this is a problem as its when Im typically in deep sleep. I seem to be hit or miss on reaching the state where Im feeling vibrations but every now and again it seems I can get there. Usually very light ones and I try to relax and 'hang with it' to get them to grow stronger. This portion is all in my directly conscious mind and there is no 'dream feeling' to it at all. However the only results I have had after that have been 'dreams' of OBEs.

I will go from feeling vibrations to 'rolling', my preferred technique, and on a couple of occasions felt myself 'detach'. On all of these occasions at the time I thought it was really happening. The most recent one was this morning. I saw myself lying in bed (all very dim...not clear at all) and saw many 'Alice' effects ( a cat slowly turning in space as if in zero G next to the bed). I went outside and suddenly remembered Roberts's advice to keep the first journey very short. So as I was returning to my room I heard a female voice, very garbled...a lot of what was said was unintelligible, but I did hear the voice say something to the effect of 'being happy Im working to overcome the barrier(s)'. I 'thought' myself back into my body and immediately woke up...and that was the real bummer. I definitely woke up and I instinctively knew it was all just a dream. There was some lucidity in terms of controlling my direction and actions but I know it was only a dream.

Is this part of the beginning process? For those of you that have achieved a true OBE, was the difference clear to you?

Thanks in advance for any input. I will continue to practice.

Hello,

Im new here and this is my first post. Im glad I found this site and Im really hoping someone here may be able to help me out.

Im not sure what happened to me and I dont know much about all this stuff but Ill just describe what happened to me and hope it might make sense to someone here.

I had heard about 'OBE' before and always thought it was interesting if nothing else. Im very open minded but skeptical about anything I have not experienced first had. One of the things I had heard someone say when describing this experience was 'rolling out of thier body'. I was not really sure what they meant but it stuck in my head.

Anyway, a couple of days ago I woke up in the morning and felt completely exhausted like I had not slept at all. Ive been unemployed from layoffs for most of this year and the stress has been adding up so I figured it was just related to that.

I was going to try to get up but I was really really tired where your body feels like its literally made of lead and I kept drifting back into light dreaming. Ive had lucid dreams plenty of times before and thought maybe I could get into a lucid state, its always so much fun.

Well as I was lying there I began to 'phase' into these states where it felt like I was falling. Ive aways had some fear associated with that feeling and would snap myself back in a reflex of my mind. I then had the thought of 'Hey, why dont I try that rolling thing next time I get this falling sensation'. Well the feeling would come in waves and with each wave I would try rolling my 'essence?' to the right (I was lying on my left side). After about 4-5 tries the most amazing thing happened.

As I attempted the next 'roll' I was suddenly hit with an increadibly strong 'vibrating' feeling. I mean STRONG to where I was shocked by it. It felt like my entire body was vibrating and I could almost hear the vibration frequency. I was shocked but not really scared at that point. As the roll continued I felt a light 'pinching' sensation at the small of the base of my neck and got a 'popping' sensation in my right ear like when you climb quickly in an airplane and have to 'pop' your ears to equalize the pressure. I got the feeling that I was being 'sucked' out of my body. Somehow the idea of pressure seemed very importaint. I felt like the roll was contining this time and like I was falling sideways to the right. I got scared of the falling sensation and broke my thoughts and 'woke up' in my body. I was tingling all over (much less force then the first vibrations) and once I moved my physical body it stopped.

Im very very dissapointed that the experience ended. I am scared of the falling sensation but I want to experience whatever this was again.

Do any of you have any idea what was going on? How can I make this happen again? It feels like I was close to discovering something and I cant stop thinking about it. The last two nights nothing has happened except for regular dreaming.

Any input or advice on how to get this to happed again would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

This was a big problem for me years ago when I first tried meditation for the purpose of lucid dreaming. I had never heard of OBE's at that time and I had a particulary nasty experience where I stopped breathing for longer then was healthy. I wont go into all the details but it spooked me pretty bad and I quit the practice all together (which involved lying on ones back). In this case Im quite sure I saw Death...not as an entity per say but rather as a portal. The entire cealing above me looked like it was under water except for a very smooth perfect circle like a black mirror, pressing down on me, growing larger as it descended but thats another story.

Just a few weeks ago I experienced my first steps towards and exit and learned about OBEs just since then. When it happened I was lying on my side (which is how I have to sleep to avoid apnea).

I do all my practice lying down on my side now (this actually is very well suited to the 'rolling' technique to exit).

I think I need to begin to practice a 'waking' meditation during daylight hours to progress, however I make sure I am in a sitting position when I do this. Lying on my back is very dangerous for me with any meditation or sleep.

"I've just never really been an 100% accurate version of my room before."

EXACTLY!  Nothing was very accurate at all. When I went outside it was all wrong...like it was semi tropical and I live in Colorado. The bedroom seemed sort of right but it was all very fuzzy. I realize that I am not going to be "seeing" the way Im used to in the physical sense but the way both Robert Monroe and Robert Bruce described interacting with the physical (Robert describes sitting on top of the chimmny of his house during a rain storm and observing his street) I just figured it would be more....tangible.

Im now wondering if I actually experienced something more then a dream. My gut instict tells me it was only a dream...you know, that feeling you get when what you are dreaming seems so real but then you wake up and the bitter disapointment when you realize you are not really on a 50' sailboat with the Swedish bikini team :(

Is there a difference in the feeling of the experience when one has truely had an OBE vs a regular dream or even a lucid dream? The idea of OBEs/lucid dreams taking place in a higher realm of 'universalness' kind of makes sense to me. If thats the case then perhaps I was sucessful after all and because Im not well trained it just degenerates into the 'Alice' state of dreaming.

At least it was an interesting experience. The exit was very effortless if indeed it was a true exit and not just dreamed. Hopefully things will become more clear with further practice.

Thanks for the input guys.

Ive been reading so other posts here and the "Treatise on Astral Projection". This information is helpful. I have not been sucessful in recreating this experience but I can see there are things I can do to increase the favorability. I think that for whatever reason I was in a good state of total relaxation (essentially my body was sleeping) yet I was somehow able to have lucid awareness at the same time.

I will be reading more about this and start to practice some techniques. I really hope I can repeat the experience and develop this into something somewhat controllable.

Thanks for the advice!
