is meditation done in a lying position less effective than done sitting up? if so, why? I've heard that you can't get energy to rise to the head while lying down, but can you still open the chakras and make spiritual progress?

the reason i ask is because a while ago i got a chest injury which means i won't be able to meditate upright for a while (very frustrating because i was just starting to get to the good stuff).

any thoughts would be dearly appreciated.

Hi.

What is the effect of doing meditation in the astral? Is it different from doing meditation in the physical - i.e. more/less effective? For example, if I meditate on a certain chakra while in the astral, will it have the same effect on my body and personality as if I did it in the physical?

Note: I'm new to projection, and have only been fully out of my body once for a few seconds, although I'm trying to develop the ability more.

Thanks for your help,
Chris.

i have noticed that there are a lot of enlightened masters around who are as bald as a coot. so maybe it's not possible, or maybe they have just transcended the desire to have hair. who knows.

no, what i was really wondering was this:

i've heard that when you astral travel you can meditate on the astral plane. for example, robert bruce mentions that he goes sometimes into deep space to meditate. so, i was wondering what the difference is in doing this and meditating normally in the body. i posted a topic about this somewhere else but didn't get that many replies. apparently it is easier to meditate in the astral plane; but then what would be the point in ever meditating in the body?
any thoughts?

so, you say you need to keep all the subtle bodies still to achieve this deep meditation? is meditation in the astral inferior to meditation in the body? why is this?

its funny that you mention the minor centres on the temple because i just started feeling these yesterday for the first time. i feel a pleasant throbbing sensation there, especially when my 3rd eye is active. also, it feels like the energy is moving from there, in the direction of the 3rd eye. i know nothing about these centres though - is there anything you can tell me? thanks

yeah, i can relate to what you're saying about the pressure on the forehead and the blue circle. my third eye is my strongest chakra too and i find it easy to concentrate on. i was worried about having the same thing happen to me as happened to you, though. when i meditate now i always finish by bringing the energy down to my belly for storage. apparently this is a good safety measure; did you ever do this?

i can't see auras yet, although i would like to. one thing i do get a lot though is occasionally seeing small dots of light appear and then disappear suddenly. or sometimes i see shifting light patterns at the edge of my vision, which disappear when i look at them. did you ever have anything like this?

kalonek,
how do you feel your perceptions have changed now that your third eye is strong? also, do you think you were just unlucky in what you went through, or is it quite a common problem for people who focus on the third eye?

Hi Boydster,
So do you think that an advanced soul, whose intentions are pure, and who has mastered kundalini in previous lives, will naturally be protected from being fried or going nuts, even if it is induced rapidly with intense practice?

as i understand it, fa jin is where you discharge energy through the hands, from the dan tien (belly).

i've got two books i would recommend to you - one about experiences, the other about an actual method. the first is gopi krishna's 'kundalini:the evolutionary energy in man' (it also goes under different names, i think). if you haven't already read this i think you should because it is a first hand account of what can go wrong on the kundalini path. it also contains the most beautiful descriptions of enlightenment that i have read anywhere (i've read a lot).

the second book is mantak chia's 'awaken healing energy through the tao'. this describes a version of the microcosmic orbit meditation. you can awaken kundalini with this, but it is safer because you circulate the energy, rather than just make it rise up the spine. you may want to adapt the method to suit your preference. or maybe this method won't appeal to you at all, in which case look elsewhere.

good luck.

cool. thanks for the replies.

seems like a good guess. if this were the case, it might mean that meditation in the astral develops your higher consciousness but has little affect on the body.

about sleep: i think the reason is that because you are not conscious, you can't work on your consciousness. i might be wrong though.

this raises the question of why anyone would want to bother meditating in the physical at all, if its so much better in the astral.

its strange that even though i've read tons of stuff about astral projection, i've only ever seen astral meditation mentioned once, in passing. this was in an article by robert bruce where he mentions that sometimes goes into outer space to meditate. is it rare for people to do this?

also, i wonder whether your physical body is affected in the same way if you meditate in the astral (e.g. the immune system).
