Nice to meet you Kenshi Jop! It seems there are a few of us here who travel this way. I'm having the most amazing fun and wonder with it. Hope you are to.

Very cool.

Never thought of the falling asleep while in deep as to what happens, but yes, you're right, you can then travel in a way very different from regular dreaming.

Hey! Great post.

I like how you describe AP. A difference I have, is I tend not to will from any point in particular in my "body" but just hold an intent in my mind and go.

And check out Rahzul's "A tip on AP/OBE for those having difficulty."

Being able to maintain a calm and lucid mind is key to smooth travelling.

Me too. I totally agree. Great post.

For me, don't know if I'm using the same terms as everyone else, astral projection (AP) is heading out and about without any great distress or separation from the body.

Now out of body (OBE) is an actual feeling of separation, so you feel like two entities. It can be quite frightening and can be painful if you slam back into your body, as I did.

Now I don't really know if I learned to control the fear, or the descent, but I do experience varying degrees of travel, some more OBE than AP but without the freaking out and pain anymore.

I do like AP better for a number of reasons. It's just easier.  If you have OBE'd as it seems you did, you can AP no problem. Stilling the mind is important. As is feeling you are protected.

Often people stop doing what can become quite natural, travelling, because of the abruptness of the first incident. Keep at it. Study all you can. Learning some type of meditation, yoga, tai chi, or other energetic practice is very helpful for becoming able to travel with ease.

Er, I'm still not up on all the terminology, have been just winging it--self learning as it were. What's LD? Lucid dreaming? Oh right. Checking out the earlier posts.

Hmm.

You can lucid dream and astral project once in OBE but not other way around...

What do I do...? Let's see I've OBE once or twice, and was always just so freaked out by the experience that I'd slam back into my body. Ouch!  So don't know that I'd be able to AP or lucid dream like that out of OBE. I'm intrigued. How *do* you?

I don't go ouch when APing, so I travel that way almost exclusively. And I seem to be able to be lucid during sleep whenever I want to. However that came from very intense effort over a lot of time.  Now I don't like to muck about in my dreams, just enjoy them.

Guess I avoid OBE cause it hurts more. And is really freaky. I, mean, you are *there,*  man! All I tend to do on an OBE is stand and sniff the air and look at the dirt in the cracks and feel the breeze, you know.

What I do know about doing a successful OBE is you really have to focus on where you want to go. The more focus and desire you have, the more irresistable the draw becomes to the place. And whap you are there. I've found with AP I don't need to drum up the same intense focus.

Grinning,

So this place you both travel to is all mapped out with signposts and everything?

A big sign on the highway saying: Two more seconds and you'll be in Focus 27?

I truly believe a lot of energy and time is wasted pasting our rigid constructs into the other side.

However, because I no speak academese, no one here seems to acknowledge I exist. Perhaps they on the other side feel the same way? Even though they be waving and saying hi?

Hi Frank,

Nice ta meet you.

Thanks to Richard Lang for bringing up the topic and Robert Bruce for answering.

I have a question:

Do either of you and any of you out there have experience with other energy practices as well? Kundalini is not the way I'm drawn. And I agree, I think it's extremely dangerous when not prepared and almost as much so even when prepared.

Thanks for such a great post.

I completely believe in the yin yang balance. You can't have one without the other and if you do end up with one in excess, dominating, it actually turns or "transforms" into the other, so...somehow as we all muddle through, we'll eventually come to balance.

You ask some very interesting questions Major Tom.

Sometimes I think we're so into getting proof, proving everything, scientific method that we lose sight of the "mystery." The wonder.

But it's difficult, never having solid proof. Isn't it? Concrete evidence this is "really" happening, not just my imagination.

I've just taken to asking whoever I come across on my travels if they have some information for me or something to show me. What is revealed is often something that couldn't possibly have come from my own mind. That and the fact that I am progressing by leaps and bounds since travelling and learning there is all the proof I need at this point.

But still--proof. I suppose you could set about doing this in a structured way. Have someone you know tuck something (you have no idea what) in an envelope and then put it in a certain drawer in a bureau. Travel to your level, find someone there, or work with the one you've been working with and ask them what the item in the envelope is...

Lots of interesting variations on this one...  My personal favourite is "finding" lost items.

Er...or am I missing a point here?

Can I ask why you'd want to go OBE when AP sounds just as effective for getting where you want to go without all the...er...troubles?

From the sounds of it I AP a lot, but don't OBE.
