I heard religion meant history too, though it does make sense, people studing their religion, are studying what happened in the past and believing it

Yes. I assume you are referring to when Jesus was before Pilate and the people said to release Barabbas. Isn't it interesting that the people would ask to have the "son of the father" released and Jesus crucified?
