This is what worries me. David Blaine does have a gift, but it is in no way supernatural. He is a good magician no doubt but his tricks are exactly that - tricks. Nothing he does, as far as I can work out, is real. Many people, including people i know, have worked out how he does his magic, so please don't think what he does is anything other than very impressive 'magicianship'.

PeacefulWarrior

Just to clarify, I have a copy of his book in which he makes it clear that he does tricks but likes to "market" himself as someone with supernatural gifts, that's all part of his gig.  This doesn't make any less amazing, in my opinion.  He does "magic" and he does it extremely well because of his life long ambition to be like those whom he adores, ie. Houdini, etc.

I can supply quotes from his book if you'd like.

Thanks for the welcome pmonline [:)]

Maybe 'worried' was the wrong word to use but you're not the first person I've heard who thinks DB has real 'powers'. I'll admit that some of his tricks are very difficult to work out (the one where he turns a cup of coffee into coins!), but as Peacefulwarrior points out, DB himself admits its all trickery and not real. He is very talented but don't believe everything you see on TV. Apparently (although I have no way to know if this is the truth), his levitation trick was put together with actors as the audience and they later filmed his feet off the ground whilst he was being hoist up in the air.

"Look how much money it's made David! Do you really think David would tell you his secret?"

Why would he care about money if he has those powers? He could make a fat stack of $100 bills out of think air.

I have viewed the David Blaine dvd Fearless a number of times. There are some things that become clearer after a few viewings. One, he is an excellent illusionist. Two, he is good at divided attention tasks, and three he is also good at redirecting attention in those watching.

There was that show that revealed some, but not all of the illusions. Bottom line is that he is very talented. Just whether or not there is something beyond the physical involved, I tend to doubt it without some other evidence. However, there are advanced yogis and siddhis in India for example, who can do some incredible things. So amazing feats are possible, I guess.

Anyone hear ever heard of this guy or seen his work?

He is a magician and a darned good one.  I recently saw his DVD and the tricks he does, from cards to levitation, are amazing.

I guess he once froze himself in a block of ice for something like 34 hours.
