 Concerning the Solar Region part of this discussion. On March 7th 2012 at 00:28 UT the sun released a X 5.4 Solar Flare. On March 4th the same coronal hole released a X 1.1 solar flare. Nasa said that the first one was not earth directed. That Solar storm hit the earth approximately 4-5 hours ago. That tells how much you can trust Nasa. They are saying the new X 5.4 could give a glancing blow. This coronal hole is extremely active after a very quiet time recently and has not turned 100% earth directed as of yet. That will be coming in the next couple of days. This gentlemen is one of the most knowledgeable on Solar Flre/storms and he correctly predicts Earthquakes due to them at an amazing rate. He says we should expect 18-23 more of X Class flares before the end of 2012. Lionheart, let me begin with saying this isn't directed at you personally, I actually agree with most of what you say in these forums and respect you as a sane coherent person.

Yet we're all here.  That doesn't tell you you can't trust NASA (but why would you anyway?) it tells you that no one can control what the sun does, and constantly yelling "the sky is falling" is of no help whatsoever.

 CFTraveller, I should have put that in quotes, since it was Solar Watcher's words not my own. I wrote this in response to the article in this post that was speaking about past Solar Flares. Nasa is always defending itself for being correct in all of their assertions. Everytime the subject comes up about Nasa and space events you will always hear people put down some new theory because Nasa hasn't announced it yet. Everytime you hear about a new event or circumstance occurring in space, Nasa is the first to answer the oncoming speculation surrounding it. Who else are we supposed to trust if they harbor all of the greatest minds in the world right now? I watch the Science and the Nasa channel quite a bit and see that most of the world's greatest minds are employed by Nasa.

There isn't much there to get, Stookie.

The author of that site linked above quoted St. Augustine out of context and presented what was meant as humor as though a serious reply. The next lines of St Augustine's essay gave the more serious reply as, "More willingly would I have answered, "I do not know what I do not know," than cause one who asked a deep question to be ridiculed -- and by such tactics gain praise for a worthless answer."

He also did not get a competent friend to proofread his article and spelled "right" as "rite" and did not learn the difference between "to" and "too" which are two different words. 

How solar flares and mushrooms are connected is another mystery.

Hard to know who the greats are... maybe most of them choose not to be public at all

I am sure if it were possible to know from seeing their images on TV, there would be a lot less subtley involved in the defintion of "great minds".
