Is it possible that music helps concentration even though it would be harder genre? I tried concentrating on some deep metal and instantly felt a deeper concentration than ever accomplished concentrating on a candle or concentrating on the ringing in my ears.

I think that music can both help in concentration and be a distraction. It helps calm the blabbering dialog but can also keep you from deep focus....at least thats how it is for me...if it works for you then do it!

What I would like to know is what genres of music does everyone listen to...I love metal. My favorite bands : Chimaira, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Tool, Unearth, deftones.

I mostly listen to Death, In Flames, Children of Bodom. i listened to most of the bands you mentioned before. I tried concentrating while listening to In Flames and realized that a lot of their songs can relate to Astral projection. It almost seems the songwriter does very deep Astral Projection regularly. One of their songs speaks of dimensions with different ways of reaching them....Swim for example speaks of acquiring new skills to visit these unknown places. A spiritual swim if you will. I can see your perspective on music and AP, and i think that's true because not only does music help you concentrate it must also keep your body awake because it's stimulating your ears as well.

Hmmm... yes metal is good, i know personally that the easiest way to get into a trance like state is to listen to trance :D but that doesn't work for everyone, i guess it just depends on what you like listening too

In Flames yes i agree with what you say, many of their songs to speak about AP or if not directly then it is possible to relate them to it.

Btw has anyone here ever listened to anything by the band Astral Projection ???  Very interesting music...

amorphis eh?...i'll make sure to check em' out. I've only just started to learn astral projection, and I've come close often enough, where i can feel the vibes, but i can't seem to concentrate on an even higher degree...i'm gonna take a free nine week course on mysticweb.org. I think i just need concentration methods that work better for me, like a personalized concentration method.

I love In Flames as well! They rule!

Music is amazing...its truly what I live for. The emotions it takes me through!

If our reality is made only of a certain vibration and music truly is only a vibration of sort...what does that tell us?

Death? Jeebush  they still around? I though the singer died? Or are you referring to old school stuff. I remember listening to them back in the early 90's
Damn, I haven't heard of them in so long. I thought I was the only one on the planet that listened to them
How bout some vintage Exodus?

BUDDHAHOOD - THE END OF SUFFERING

nah man Chuck Schuldiner is the "god" of death metal as some say, he did die but there are still plenty of people listening to them, i know of at least a dozen people who listen to it all the time, which is pretty decent in a place like New Brunswick Canada, and an underground band that hasn't made an album since 1998. Death sings about pretty crazy aspects of life and some of their songs can relate to astral projection.

I sometimes relax to some pretty intense electronic music (Amon Tobin, for example)...

Well, i guess i have a lot to listen too =)
Im already a tool and deftones fan though (A perfect Circle is nice too)

Personally i dont really use music when im trying to do deep trance or AP unless im trying to get relaxed in the first few minutes then i shut it off (i cant stand having stuff on my ears..very distracting),

I think that meta music stuff is nice though, and classical, but thats not rock..... =)

hmmmm, sometimes when i meditate i hear music, it sounds like really deep vibrations and the only thing i could compare it too would be monk chanting so im thinking that would be the best music for me (still havent found anything good yet though at the library)
Im walking on sunshine :)

Leoman

yeah i use some music to help me relax often. I usually dont listen to that hardcore metal to relax (although i do love that stuff *in flames* ) but i like to take a more calm approach. I listen to a band called porcupine tree, i must say they have this odd sound to a lot of the songs that just puts me in a very relaxed state. Another one of my favorite bands has to be Dream Theater. they are just amazing for any occasion. check them out if you haven't :P

sandmage

yeah i started to listen to some dream theater lately, they seem to have many songs that can relate to astral projection, i love their rhythm and the voice is so soothing.

don't know monk chanting but 'deep vibratons' reminds me of didgeridoo. david hudson would be one keyword for that.

there is 'megadrums', a complex jazzy ethnomix drumming from german musicians. it's deisgned for rather extatic trance.

(if u downoad it , don't mix it up with the drum snippet samplers for DJs)

Harner - Shamanic Journey Drumming (just plain simple drumming at 240 bpm, no variations) (that's ok for close to sleep trance)

not for AP but for the average flow:

like to listen to native american stuff too (david&steve gordon, oliver shanti, sacret spirit)

and steve roach stuff (suspended memories)

and asian taiko drumming or buddah monk style chants (annoys me lately)

and i LOVE that punk-jazz of the stooges - selftitled and the stooges - funhouse

DADA cause she's not right  DA DA
and it's allways that way DADA

RTCovenant

I think some native american music with flutes would be a nice addition to your astral projection.
