Robert Peterson's book is an easy read ... I loved it when I was starting out. You can even read it online for free at:

Hi I would reccomend 'out of body exploring' by preston dennett
a lot of people find astral dynamics too heavy going i think
dennett combines knowledge from many different authors including robert bruce and he has a good clear writing style
hope this helps from

There was a really good file online that I first read when I was learning to project. I thought it was really good for a beginner, but I can't find it online now. I might have it saved some where if you are interested.

Unless you are just wanting to buy books to read there is no reason to do so. There is plenty of good information here and elsewhere on the net. Though sometimes it is nice to hold bound paper in your hand. :)

Astral dynamics is heavy for a first book, but it is great from a technical side, whereas Monroe's Journeys out of The Body is great from an inspiration standpoint.

I always recommend "How to Know Higher Worlds" by Rudolph Steiner. It has teachings, exercises, and meditations I've never seen anywhere else.
