I think you are on to something. Another example is like when you are driving to work in the morning and get to work and suddenly think, "How did I get here?" I am sure we all experience those times when we are doing something, so we are physically awake but the mind just zones out or becomes unconscious. I don't think this is really something you would want to strive for though.
Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

I know  that Body asleep / mind awake is used to induce out of body experiences, but has anyone ever thought of its opposite. Is this what causes us to daydream during math, or when our parents are rambling on about something we have to do.
