Canada is the only G7 country to run seven consecutive surplus budgets. It has not run a federal deficit since 1996-97. The United States deficit is expected to reach $422 billion in 2004.

Speaking of Canada, has anybody else heard that Wednesday 11/3/2004, their immigration webpage crashed because of the volume of hits it got?

Hmmm.

WHY MOVE TO CANADA?

8. The United Nations has ranked Canada the best country to live in for eight consecutive years.

There was an article in the local newspaper here (Flagstaff, Arizona), last week about immigrating to Canada. I suspect the article was syndicated in a lot of US newspapers. It's theme was that US citizens disaffected by their government are looking into Canada.

The columnist provided at least 3 websites for the reader to explore, including the one that apparently crashed.

I have family in the Toronto area, and visit them every so often. As I get older I vainly hope that our US tax dollars would be rerouted to more productive goals, such as health care. Oh well.

Very best,
Nick

We can hope, Nick, though sadly that in vain part seems most likely.

And the US shows no signs of even trying to reduce the deficit.

there is another problem with the idea of US citizens emigrating to Canada, and thats the possibility that Canadians might not want them!

And should the draft come back, becoming a Canadian citizen won't help you much this time.  :?
What is the sound of no leaves cloving?

Fyrenze

Actually Canada has recently signed a treaty with us(US) that says they will send back any draft dodgers or AWOL military personnel

That's what I was referring to. That and the fact that it's cold up there keeps me from really wanting to move up there.

Silly me. I thought you were implying if our military became depleted we would force Canadians to serve.

If it happens, I'd have to say I saw it coming.  :?

Somebody got the idea of setting up a web site at www.marryanamerican.ca which also got very popular after the us election.

We shall not forsake our American brothers and especially sisters. And as encouragement I might add that Vancouver not only has mild weather but is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
