Hello,
I've been a heavy smoker for too long now ( relatively speaking ) , I decides some months ago to permanently stop, but I just couldn't, I'd stop for a week or two but sooner or later I find myself rolling a blunt again. The fact that everybody around me smokes a lot probably helps too.

Anyway, I know that weed is not that hard of a drug and I probably could get myself to stop if excluded myself for some time and dealt with my demons the hard way.But I just can't do it that way.
So my question is , Has anybody successfully got rid of their addiction by meditating ? or Else ?
If so, what particular kind of meditation ? I would be very grateful for any advice at all.
Thank you , please keep in mind that I'm still a newbie :)?

Cheers

I quit smoking cigarettes 3 years ago cold turkey after having smoked for over 27 years. Willpower is the only way to quit a bad habit. You need to reach down into your essence and find that driving force. Meditation will help you control the withdrawal symptoms, it will also help you to focus your mind away from smoking. But the true key is WILLPOWER!  :-)

I agree, Lionheart has good advice. Meditation can help with focus and mental clarity, but it's a long path and won't do it all for you, you have to develop the proper will.

Also, you can try to supplement the smoking with another activity. At times when you would normally smoke, do something else that's enjoyable that will help take your mind off it. And I hate saying this, but if the people around you are huge influences, it's best to limit your time with them until you've got it under control. When I was entering my 20's I dropped a good number of friends(?) due to incompatible lifestyles.

Hey,
thanks for the honest answers.I actually think I do have the will to do that, problem is, while i'm " doing that " , I can't really do anything else.Let me give you an example, I haven't smoked ( or seen any friends ) since 4 days ago, I have a lot of work to do but I didn't really do it , I spent those 3 days " trying not to smoke  / not to think about it " , even though I succeeded, my work is still not done. That's where I tought the meditation would help get the thought out of my mind so I can focus on other things. On the other hand, my body feels kinda different , less sleepy.I'm gonna try and keep that going .

Thanks again .
Cheers
