How authentic do you want? Do you want a specific tradition? How accomplished should your guru be? And most important, how will you know this person when you meet this person? You do realize, don't you, that the people most qualified to be your guru won't tell you that they are.
why wouldnt they tell you who/what they were?
Thats true,a real guru wouldnt come out and say it.Its the ones that come out and do that you gotta watch out for!!!

Before looking for a guru, look for a teacher.
A teacher will impart knowledge with the hopes that you will grow. Self professed "guru's" aren't as interested in teaching as they are in having you follow their ways.

p.s. James; A Guru *is* a teacher, and altho i am sure there are unscrupulous types out there i am also sure there are some real Gurus who are here just to serve. Rare tho they may be.
