It says in your other post that you are agnostic.  If you don't believe that one can know whether or not God exits, but your wife believes God does exist, why not just humor her?  It's not as though you think that baptism can damn a child to hell, cause for all you know hell may or may not exist, but your wife believs it does, so humor her.  If there is no God then baptism is meaningless, and if there is then it's meaningful, and since only one person in the marriage believes in anything why not just bring her some comfort by letting your children get baptised?

To me God exists but not especially in the image that the religion is willing to give us. I wrote to you that this is personnal because if you decide on the advice of someone else on this forum to have your child not baptised this may lead to problems between you and your wife. Anyhow, if there is already an issue about baptism or not, sure in the future you will have more issues to resolve with your wife than just that. So if you solve this problem peacefully with your wife (which some times means that you have to compromise and maybe give up, if she does not) there are good chances that you will be sucessfull to solve other future issues. If this issue of baptism leads you to arguments with your spouse and you both are unable to solve, then it seems that in the future you might have more problems that you (both) won't be able to solve. the question is how important is this baptism for you and for your wife. Personally as I wrote it does not mean anything to me. The only Hell I know is on this planet, just look around, in Irak, or in Canada where a 1,000,000 seals are being massacred by hunters for money! Hell is on earth, anything else look better. baptism next to all that is little money. If that makes your wife (and her family) happy and that brings a good relashionship between you and your wife, then go ahead and let the child be baptised. If this is so important to her, then maybe because of that and not because of religion, you have to agree ? Maybe one day the child will become budhist or enlighted and find out that all that has no meaning, that the only important thing is to practice kindness as the Daila Lama said and as I myself personnaly believe!

May God bring the light to you! and to your little family! Amen!
