found that increased meditation equals:
1. More frequent memory of dreams and more awareness in dreams?
2. Increased empathy and compassion toward others?
3. Toward self?
4. Increased happiness in 'normal' waking life?
What do you think?

Seriously... I never practiced meditation seriously until about 2 years ago. I dabbled in it when I was doing martial arts... but I didn't understand it.

However... all these qualities that you list were attained just by practicing OOBEs using the method I used.. which in some respects was.. take a nap... get quickly into Sleep Paralysis.. and 'away'.

From this I remembered all my dreams and experiences... I have never understood why people aren't more compassionate and never understood the emotions jealousy, hate or envy and was rather stumped when confronted by it from others. I have had to learn these emotions or rather how to recognise them in others... and I have always been happy and loved life.

When I started meditating there were new qualities I attained that I can't put my finger on. One thing it has taught me is that I understand why people who discover and practice meditation suddenly attain these qualities... so I have learned an understanding of other's understanding.

It did teach me that I don't always need to use SP as a way to become nonphysical... and it brings a peace of mind if I am feeling slightly overwhelmed by little problems of everyday life.

Like everyone said, all of that is possible and more. I will say that it does not automatically make you happy in life... you still have to deal with the ups and downs, but you can gain a new perspective and way of thinking that helps you glide through those situations. Life doesn't become easier, but you become a master of living it.

I always liked the saying:

"Before enlightenment: chop wood, carry water.
After enlightenment: chop wood, carry water."

I like all that you've said here. Nice.

Maybe those qualities don't have words available in english?
I know what you mean and i don't have the words or ability to "put my finger on" these either.
But something is different and i feel improved in normal waking life when i am keeping a meditation practice going.
