In short it was Carlos Castaneda's books that got me into lucid dreaming, which lead me into this subject.
I was having spontanious OBE's. I researched it, and found out I was not alone.[^]
Here. I came here from a recommendation (LONG time ago :x) for energy work and ended up reading everything about OBEs

My own beliefs and the things happening in my life brought me to this. It is the next logical step in my journey.
I saw the movie "Wkaing Life". That initially got me into lucid dreaming, which i researched thoroughly. Then, a freind who owns a cafe overheard me talking about it, and he told me about the courses at the mysticweb centre which is located here in my City. I then looked onto their online courses.=, and i was hooked on the astral. Definetely a case of serendipity.
I first got into astral projection after my brother subscribed to a series of "time life" books about the paranomal.one month,a book called "psychic voyages" came in the mail.I was fascinated by the concept of out of body travel, and access to hidden dimensions of knowledge.
I read the whole book, then practiced Robert Monroe's projection technique.2 weeks later, I saw a surge of energy shoot down from sky in my mind, and my whole body felt like I tapped into an electrical power line.It felt like an "electrical earthquake".I shook myself out of it after about 30 seconds,'cause I felt like I was about to be burned to a crispy cinder![:O]
of course, my brother tried the technique ONCE.he didn't do it right,then he said something like "ahh,it's all bullsh*t".I still don't know if he believes me.
I then started to get spontaneous vibrations while I was awake,but relaxed.I got spontaneous projections for a number of years,which gradually waned off,so now I'm learning to project at will.I eventually want to be able to project when I'm awake,anytime I want.

even though i havnt yet projected... i found out about it by accident, i was at a website reading 'Things To Do In A Lift' and i saw a link to astral projection in the corner of the page, clicked it and was hooked.
I started with clairvoyance, which is still had for me to control, but anywho i'm a newbie! I had dreams that came true, kinda scary at first, but then it became cool. Did reseach, and read about Astral Projection, which is my new area of study[:P]

I like most people have heard about OBE's. However, I believed that they were extremely rare and only happened to certain people. It wasn't until I started reading the "My Big TOE" trilogy by Thomas Campbell (did some early work with Robert Monroe) did I learn that this stuff was not only common, but relatively accessible to anyone willing to learn. That led me to mysticweb's website among many others, which then prompted me to order their course book.
After a couple of weeks I had confirmation of the validity of the subject as I had a partial split experience during a sleep paralysis episode. Now I'm determined to explore the realm, and I'm happy to announce that first thing tomorrow I'm going to go get Robert Bruce's Astral Dynamics book and start a training regimen.
Things that have happened in my life, as well as my theories and beliefs(possibly created as a cause of my experiences) has led me into doing research about Astral Projection/OBE. Like cainam_nazier so exellently put it: "It is the next logical step in my journey."
