Any of you had the experience where you feel as if you separate - so far, so good - but then decide you didn't and then go back to sleep?

Last week I got upright and while sliding off the bed, looked at my hands and because they looked normal, thought I must have physically moved instead. So I 'flopped' back down and fell asleep. In the morning I realized that I couldn't possibly have seen my real hands because the room was very dark!

Funny how it can seem so real you psych yourself out!

Hi Lizelle,

Yes thats why you always need to do the reality checks as explained by Nicholas Newport in Lucidology 101.

Lucidology 101 is freely downloadable from the web site, and I consider it one of the best techniques. Its what broke the ice for me and got me experiencing my first OBE's. They are a set of lectures, and he is a pleasure to listen to in the car.

You do a reality check because you're never quite sure if you're non-physical - and you don't want to blow hours of practice.

Also, be sure to check out my switch visual context process. Its 'wide awake astral travel'. A process still in development. If you don't mind feeling a bit silly staring into space for hours on end, it actually takes less effort than OBE - for some - and the best thing is, you don't have the problem of memories fleeting off into thin air after the experience.

Good luck. My mailing list is unbelieveableexistence on yahoogroups.

Love is all there is.

Thanks Neil. I'm using my iPod in the car a lot now! I thought looking at my hands WAS a reality check, but I wasn't applying rigorous logic to the process!  :-)  Plus the "dim light" typical of lower planes seemed plausible enough at the time. So - easily fooled especially when half-asleep.

Usually I drop through the floor to the downstairs but this time I scooted off the bed (as I do in the physical world) so that's probably where I went wrong. It reminds me of the times I wake up and go to the bathroom, then get frustrated because I can't pee! I was probably having OBEs in the form of those "realistic" dreams, and just didn't know it.

The 4 he mentions, from his web site:

Here are the 4 most effective, most reliable and easiest reality tests that you can start using immediately. I have tested each of these many times to see how well they work and what pitfalls to watch for. These are:

1.) The blindfold test

2.) Transparent eyelids

3.) Overlaid sight

4.) The spoon bending test
